zanda
Ok, a girl I know reasonably well told me (and cam) a little story in passing on saturday night..... it appears that bunbury may have negotiated the construction of a GT track - for the specific primary purpose of hosting three rounds of the Nippon GT racing. The infrastructure development will include construction of a new international airport to enable fly-in fly-out service access (which would also act as a flow-over from Perth International during busy times), and a 45,000 seat racing venue - which they would expect to sell out - effectively doubling bunbury's population!! apparently prices for water-frontage properties in bunnas have already taken a sharp rise in anticipation of a formal announcement......and her uncle own a bit of property down there, hence her interest/involvement. ....anyone heard anything else along these lines? GTS-t VSPEC
Hmm, sounds a bit speculative at the moment, and who is funding this, it would be tens of millions of dollars to build. I hope it goes ahead, but won't be holding my breath. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/25932-bunbury-gt-rumours/#findComment-549402 Share on other sites
snyper510
Yeah i heard about this on gwn news about 6 weeks ago. The impression I got from the report was that it had pretty much recieved the go-ahead - however I havent seen very much info/press coverage since. I have asked around a few other forums and no-one has really been able to confirm anything. MattyB
ahhhhh so they moved to bunbury. i remember about a year ago i read in the paper that this track was going to be built either in the internation airport land or down below byford. both were knocked back due to ***ed stupid housing residents. the track is being funded totally by the investors. from what i understand not one bit of government help. all there money is going towards alana's train set. ix9
Don't be knocking the train set! it shits me that the northern suburbs have had a train set for the last 10 years, and we've got plans for completiong in 2006! It's pathetic. As for teh GT track, it can blow me, I've heard so many rumours about this stuff now, I dont know what to believe... zanda
2007. 2006 to Waikiki, 2007 to Mandurah, due to budgetary allocation limits, government cashflow and the AAA credit rating..... ....although a wiley contractor could theoretically.... but, we digress! zanda
I was told it was "Nippon Racing". I figure that, since the budget for building that sort of infrastructure would need to be pretty substantial, it must be a very well organised and high profile competition - like GT500. Smiley
I think Formula Nippon is basically their name for the open wheeler racing similar to F3. isnt the GT series productions cars? VSPEC32
Hey Alex, sorry to burst the GT bubble, but it's actually Formula Nippon, not what I think you're getting at which is JGTC. As for news, the site for the organisation is: http://www.pimm.org/ They've got a proposed site map with a bit of news as well. This group has been trying for so long to get something off the ground. And although some have said that it's never likely, there's many more quietly hoping. Would beat having to drive all the way to Collie for track days if you want to enjoy the rockin nightlight that Bunners has to offer ; ) It also says the track will be designed to FIA specs to cater for racing/testing of Formula 1 cars and MotoGP bikes. I think Formula Nippon is similar to F3000. zanda
thanks for that link Radium! so it's open wheelers, with possible GT racing.... Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/25932-bunbury-gt-rumours/#findComment-549518 Share on other sites
Rezz
Yeah, it`s actually "Formula Nippon", the Japanese equivelent of F3000. Bloody hell, "build it, and they will come" is what I say... you West Aussies HAVE TO understand what this could do for WA... Perth would become the Japanese Motorsport mecca in Australia. Alright enough bullshit! Everybody write to the F-Nippon HERE and express your support!!! Donate money!!! Get off your ass3s and do something!!! GTS-t VSPEC
I'd prefer JGTC, but an form of motorsport is cool, let's hope this proposal comes to fruition:D Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/25932-bunbury-gt-rumours/#findComment-549572 Share on other sites

Denver
i keep laughing every time i see this thread pop up over the place i seriously doubt it will ever happen, the guy pushing for it has no money and this is the fourth time hes tried to egt it off the ground, first the airport, thenb midland, then oakford, now bunbury, the guys a con, and i seriously doubt it will ever happen.. christ he signed formular nippon up to a round of racing at a track that didn't exist, didn't have approval and the airport comission hadn't even seen a proposal for, let alone given it thought past the 'this guys a dreamer' stage Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/25932-bunbury-gt-rumours/#findComment-549593 Share on other sites

Not saying I know this group from a bar o' soap, but I'm quietly sitting here hoping that he/they do get full approval to do what they originally set out to do. If I was in Perth now, I`d be following this up and trying to get as much support as possible. If 10,000 people all registered their support, you watch how much capital gets thrown at it, and before you know it bloody NISMO is building a factory three doors down from your house. This kind of stuff HAPPENS. Look at the US for christs sake, they`ve got a round of D1 drift! The Japanese want to expand overseas and build up new market potential in any way thats viable. If have an F-Nippon round in Perth makes money, they`re in.
