Mine had only a basic killswitch, more or less just a switch on the underside of the steering column that stopped the starter motor doing anything when you hit the ignition. I hadn't owned the thing long enough to have anything else fitted.

The thing that pisses me off the most, is that there SHOULD have been a turbo-timer where the switch was, but I had to remove that for inspection purposes a few days prior. Now if they weren't illegal, the scum would never have been able to start my car because of how impossible to find the switch was when the timer was on the car. Even I couldn't find the thing myself after the guy had installed it for me, and I knew what i was looking for!

my car was fully imobolised and alarmed, all black wiring etc

i too had removed the turbo timer a few days earlier... i reckon the tape on the ignition wires after i had soldered them back up made it easy for them

spoke to the owner of the 32, he said the locks are busted, ignition barrel and steering lock are buggered but everything else seems ok. the guy had ditch it in the middle of the road when it popped the radiator piping off... cops have got the guy who did it, they have tracked the 4-5 times the thief used the owners credit that was in the car aswell..

Atfer my uncles xr6t got broken into and driven down the road he hooked up a a special ignition sytem. He jsut rerouted everything itno the smoke lighter and put phony wires and igntion in the original spot. I reckon its the best defense againts theives like this.

I'm sure there's a few thieves out there that have just said thankyou to you.

Really unfortunate to hear. This has been goin on for awhile but has picked up recently -- even so that its been spoken about on other forums (toymods).

my cousins skyline was broken into a few weeks ago and his mates car another few weeks before.. all for nothing really.. jsut broken glass and ripped wires.. fortunately

so from reading all this for the first time im unsure about bringing my car to canberra and leaving it for any period of time.

so is it really as bad as it sounds? if i leave my car for a few hours what are the chances of it being there when i come back?

it really sucks when we need to feel like this all because of some low life scum.

rossco 01 looks like your and my car have been spotted (simaler to when a robber picks a shop or house and starts to research as much as he can about it like does it have an alarm or what does the owner when he leaves the car ), i have the exact same thing happen to me but they were in a red commodore i got the rego down for a rainy day, sorry about keeping bumping this topic but by the looks of it there gonna keep stealing skylines as long as ther is a demand for parts. and they love the fact.

I think we are going to have to start having VIP/selected member sub-forums for active members on SAU. They are scanning over the forums for our cars and what they have on them, and the easiest way they can confirm this is our Avitar pictures. I've just removed my Avi picture, although it might be a little late, but personally have it either unrelated to your car like Greekos' or rossco 01's or a partucular part of your car, which wouldnt be enough to identify it. I know we all take pride in our Skylines, but when we advertise our car, we advertise it to everyone who looks. Also (and ive learn the hard way from not doing this) always check before u pull into your street or house whether someone 'looks' like they are following you. If you have the suss feeling you get when u smell week old socks, just do a lap around the block or take a unconventional route which no one would take in their right mind unless they were following you.

    • I clean my wheels every time I wash the car, I also clean the barrels, the only product I use on the wheels is truck wash and a pressure washer, followed by (inset your chosen name brand) wash and wax, time per wheel is probably 2 minutes total, cleaning the barrels is easy with one of these microfibre thingies on a stick from Sabco, they're also great for getting in between the front guards and body, and tight spots in the engine bay ย
    • An updated post here. Sounds to me like there's definitely a bit of sketchiness here.ย  Old mate with 10 rusting Torana's in the front yard might be more who they're focussed on. (For right or wrong).
    • Is this not just about people wrecking, and storing, multiple cars in their front yard? I now a tow truck driver that was contracted by the council to clean up housing commission front and rear yards in houses and unit car parks I'm all for working on, and doing maintenance on your car in your garage or driveway, but some people definitely take the pissย  There's one house locally to me that I walk past regularly where the front yard and driveway looks like a wreckers, multiple cars in various stages of being stripped, and the yard looks like all of fluids are basically dumped on the ground I may be wrong, but it seems that the initial reports, which I've seen nothing actually official about yet, may be getting taken out of context, like alot of the latest "the sky is falling" stuff found on the youtubes for clicks
    • have they? Link appreciated. I live in Casey. I can see both sides of the argument in this case. There's a lot of sketchy stuff going on. There needs to be a clear definition of what this is supposed to be IMO. I wager the intent was to be a broad sweeping brush against people who have 4 cars up on blocks on their front lawn, not someone who services their own car behind their own gate on a weekend bothering probably nobody. But it'd be hard to legislate the difference there.
    • Oh, the wheels were already off. I wouldn't normally take them off to clean them although it does make it easier with the ceramic, so I might take them off when reapplying. I don't drive much but now with the ceramic coat, when I do drive and they get dirty I can get most off with the pressure washer. I'll be switching to dirtier pads soon which was the motivation for the ceramic as I usually just clean them and sometimes use Autoglym wheel protector. Nah, f**k the barrels! Haha, I'll give them a quick scrub when they're off the car and a pressure wash, but even I draw the line with the barrels. Yes, dark coloured wheels allow you to get away with a lot! ย
