Hi All, OzMzada.Com ran this event back in October last year, and a few SAU members heard on the grape-vines and came along to enjoy the festivities. This time around, we would like to personally invite the SAU members to join us at DECA for a skid-pan motokhana day. Details are below, everything is organised, and we have roughly 10 - 15 spots remaining, so hurry in and grab a place (Payments will not be accepted on the day)

I have been granted permission from R31Nismoid to post this event up.

DECA - Back by popular demand!

Thats right folks, it's on again! Octobers event was such a blast and we have been asked by just about everyone who attended "when will you be organising another?" Well, the answer is March 15th 09' Seems like a long way away, but it will come around quick.

Here's the relevent info....

Ozmazda.com DECA day is on the 15th of March 2009

The event will be held on Sunday the 15th of March and the cost is $125 and that includes full lunch, (we have had alot of feedback about lunch from the last day, and we will be making sure that next time, we have it nailed) drinks and snacks.

The day will be limited to 35 cars so everyone will have plenty of time behind the wheel as especially we will be running two courses side by side at the same time.

For those heading up from Melbourne or down from Sydney, get ready for a great time. It's an open event, so friends and spectators are very welcome. Great for first timers and those that want to sharpen their driving skills and want to test their car in a safe and legal fashion. On the day we will be running several 'Motorkhana' styled courses, and we hope to have the first event starting at 9:30AM on the dot.

Where is it?

DECA or Driver Education Centre of Australia is located in Shepparton, on Wanganui Rd just off the Goulburn Valley Highway. It's about 180ks from Melbourne or just under 2 hours.

What is a Motorkhana event?

Motorkhanas are motor sport events designed to test the acceleration, braking and handling of cars and the skill and judgment of drivers. Most importantly, motorkhanas provide fun and enjoyment whilst practising and learning car control. Oversteer and understeer will be found in abundance, but at safe speeds under controlled conditions.

A day's event consists of a number of 'tests', these pre-determined layouts will be available before the day. Cars compete one at a time, always starting and finishing in designated "garages".

Each 'test' takes from 15 to 60 seconds to complete and is defined by Witches hats. Hitting Witches hats or going the wrong way incur time penalties which are added to the total time. Our Motorkhana event on the day will include 6 to 8 'tests'.

Vehicle speed rarely exceeds 60 km/h (37 mph) but the tightness of the tests ensures the driver is kept very busy.

I find the best way to learn the courses is to watch the couple of cars in front of you and then just follow what they did. No big deal if you mess up, just try again the next time. You will not be the only one if you mess up. Even the most experienced motorkhana campaigner gets unstuck on the skidpan's a great leveler and fun event for everyone irrelevant of skill level of the driver.

What to do

Before you leave home, you'll need to take everything unnecessary out of your car so to avoid leaving it in the car park all day. Bring only necessary items. Things to bring to make your day more enjoyable will be Sunscreen, hat, sunnies and a rain coat might be good. You may want to consider some camping chairs for friends or partners.

You must have a current Australian drivers licence. Your car must be registered and your car must be in Roadworthy condition, with all loose items in the boot and cabin removed. There will be motorkhana course notes given out on the day; also once you make your payment we will email you the notes so you can study them before the event.

REGISTRATION and PAYMENT details:

Registrations will be accepted up to 2 days before the event, but don't wait too long or you'll miss out! Once the spots have been filled you'll have to wait until next time ;) In order to keep the day moving fast, there is a limit of 2 drivers per vehicle.

Cost for the day is $125.00 per driver per vehicle. Lunch and drinks are included as there are no onsite canteen facilities.

In order to secure your spot = $$ :) First in best dressed!

Payment WILL only be accepted by Bank Deposit/Transfer. No cash payments will be accepted on the day.
