Guys,

Pritty much brought a rb25det motor package and the pipe which the top radiator house joins onto is very rusted, that rusted im not sure the hose will be able to be clamped on.

Whats the go with it? Is it just a metal sleeve thats just in there? can it be taken out and replaced?

Asking here before I try and take it out and possibly destroying whats left of it?

Pics up later for those who arent sure.

Cheerio :P

they are sleeved, not sure why nissan did that.

if you can get a fitting turned out of alloy, just get it welded on. - might not even need turning, measure it and see if you can weld on some std tube. 38mm is probably what it is

Yes a metal sleeve is pressed into the aluminium housing.

No way will it just slip out and as suggested, you could try welding a turned aluminium hose barb onto the housing.

Got to make you wonder about the condition of the rest of the engine, Welsch plugs, waterpump, etc etc.........

  • 2 years later...

If i had corrosion on an engine like that i would throw on a new pump/thermostat and welshplugs. . .they might look fine from the outside and easier to change while the motor is out

    • I spent the entire of the long weekend going through my garage and I'm now, after 3.5yrs in this house, able to fit a car in. The garage is quite long and the back half has a high enough ceiling for a 2 post lift but it's going to just take too much space and I don't think I'd be able to get around the car if it was in the air. So, in comes the quick lift. It looks perfect. High enough to do most things, I reckon even getting a gearbox out would be doable.  Does anybody here have one? They're fairly cheap (~$3k) considering...  https://www.dtmtrading.com.au/product/quick-lift-portable-vehicle-hoist-3500-kg-worksafe-approved/ I'm also a bit of a non risk taker so I'd probably still use stands when under!
    • Well now we all see it! I did the same. Then cut it out. Then melted half of it. Then discarded it entirely. So... you're in good company.
    • I just replaced the god awful, sagging, crunchy bonnet insulation. It's something nobody but I see but it's been at me for a while.
    • yeah the south island is stunning, the wifes family is from the west coast down there so we were down there for christmas.   a high 10 would be a stretch but hilarious if it happened. fourth gear is its party gear, i don't have traction to throw more at it at lower speeds. I've found passengers don't think its that fast, i think it's because it has a digital dash so they can't see the needle move so they have no sense of speed
    • You have (externally anyway) a lot of patience!  At the very least your patience has rewarded you financially even if you decided you were over it!! I only just read your first experience of seeing the car, that would have been amazing!  Well documented too! It must be exciting knowing there's only 10 months left until you can get it on a boat and on it's way!!!???
