haha, thats a pretty good way to put it. Saturday is way to late.

Didn't have a problem supplying oil to the head, its just where it was not going once it was in the head that was the problem...

Sam rekons shit from the previous engine has blocked the gallery to the front journal of the exhaust cam. The head was obviously cleaned but blocked cam gallerys are not really something thats usually a problem.

Luck it didn't get to far gone and the thing can be repaired.

Jay's wrapped cause he gets to pull it back out now. Im liking this whole being sick and not aloud to do anything thing at the moment. Watching you lot put it in the first time was funny let alone again.

Im going back to work tommorrow, im so tired of sitting around home!

There's only so many steven Segal movies I can handle...

there's a few competative sports sedans on my105 atm for well under 50K kel!!

Bad luck just seems inevitable with this thing. My GTR better not catch it while they are around each other thats for sure

well actually, if you wanted to see my car run.....waiting until sat was too late.

oil supply issue to the head led to a snapped cam while running it in - so I've gone from just making this round to missing it by a mile :D

Looks like the Dinosaurs are one put on you Mister D

Maybe try a 20 lt sump next time around LOL.

xxxx

Was definately some interesting racing out there on the weekend..Most did really well driving to the conditions too.

I was doing Race Control and sad that you weren't there Duncan would of had prime viewing of your awesome launches off the line!!

Hope you get her up and running soon! :)

Its still broke Chris.

The head is repairable but we're half way through building another new head for it. Don't know exactly where the problem is with the old one yet so not taking any chances.

New one just needs stem seals, valves and springs them clearances adjusted.

Looking like we may pull the bottom end back out and double check there is nothing in the main gallery that could have blocked the head supply even temporarily.

Once we got the head off the bottom end was cranked over to make certain it had good oil supply to the gallery. There was a massive mess as oil streamed out the restrictor. So far it seems there was something wrong either with the gallery to the front cam cap or the bucket bleeding off oil to the front gallery. Either way its really annoying as the head was litterally removed cleaned down and bolted back into place.

hey there are still 4 weeks to next round, it will be back then for sure.

lol famous last words...

I've sort of been sooking since I missed this round as well. We did get that motor back together but a related problem saw the new one die pretty much straight away. At least we know the cause now :P

In any case, the motor is back together and sealed so my next race will be the day/night meet (last one??) at Oran Park 1 August. Next state round is not until mid September at Wakie.

There was a round on this weekend, and aren't the taxis going quick these days. Gus' new monaro did 1.46.5 in qualifying...bloody quick for a stock 2 door taxi. Jim ended up winning the round in his dinosaur. Best modern car was Gerry's evo 7 in 6th.

As for the other categories....the BSM GTR was not out again, and as usual the sports sedan field was rubbish, 9 finishers in the last race. improved prod is struggling for entrants too with only 24 finishers between 2 fields (over and under 2l). And very sadly the over 2l improved prod quickest car was slower than the production cars quickest. Its basically a crap time for quanitity and quality of entrants in racing.

Hey Dunk, is it true that the Commondoors don't have to run the class control tyre (Kumhoo) while everyone else does?

Cheers

lol I'm sure everyone follows the rules.

unfortunately the rules have been changed until the end of the year, no more control tyres.

all this means is that instead of everyone running on same kumhos (1300 a set to me) we all run the best tyre (dunlop dz03) at 2600 a set

After ALOT of screwing around and what ive now called Duncan luck he has just taken the car and its even driven 300odd Km's!!

We've now got a really nice sump which has a slight leak but fixable, a nitto oil pump and external pick up and a heap of other little oil mods which should keep the bearings going roundy round

Bring on the next engine failure Duncan im sure there will be something else interesting next time around.

We do also have a spare now though which is almost completed.

Day nighter in a fortnight and so far its looking like duncan WILL be there.

sweet let me know how it goes.

Im sure there is a few little things that will need to be tidied up underneath the car, like the box breathers and silly shit like that.

Bring on the day nighter!!

Oh and dont forget the oil filter!

Sam is anal about cutting it open to check after the first few changes.

Bring two spares to the track as well

    • Very nice - I also have a 92 GTST and hardly see any others around these days

    • I think you're really missing the point. The spec is just the minimum spec that the fuel has to meet. The additive packages can, and do, go above that minimum if the fuel brand feels they need/want to. And so you get BP Ultimate or Shell Ultra (or whatever they call it) making promises to clean your engine better than the standard stuff....simply because they do actually put better additive packages in there. They do not waste special sauce on the plebian fuel if they can avoid it. I didn't say "energy density". I just said "density". That's right, the specific gravity (if you want to use a really shit old imperial description for mass per unit volume). The density being higher indicates a number of things, from reduces oxygen content, to increased numbers of double bonds or cyclic components. That then just happens to flow on to the calorific value on a volume basis being correspondingly higher. The calorific value on a mass basis barely changes, because almost all hydrocarbon materials have a very similar CV per kg. But whatever - the end result is that you do get a bit more energy per litre, which helps to offset some of the sting of the massive price bump over 91. I can go you one better than "I used to work at a fuel station". I had uni lecturers who worked at the Pt Stanvac refinery (at the time they were lecturing, as industry specialist lecturers) who were quite candid about the business. And granted, that was 30+ years ago, and you might note that I have stated above that I think the industry has since collected together near the bottom (quite like ISPs, when you think about it). Oh, did I mention that I am quite literally a combustion engineer? I'm designing (well, actually, trying to avoid designing and trying to make the junior engineer do it) a heavy fuel oil firing system for a cement plant in fricking Iraq, this week. Last week it was natural gas fired this-that. The week before it was LPG fired anode furnaces for a copper smelter (well, the burners for them, not the actual furnaces, which are just big dumb steel). I'm kinda all over fuels.
    • Well my freshly rebuilt RB25DET Neo went bang 1000kms in, completely fried big end bearing in cylinder 1 so bad my engine seized. No knocking or oil pressure issue prior to this happening, all happened within less than a second. Had Nitto oil pump, 8L baffled sump, head drain, oil restrictors, the lot put in to prevent me spinning a bearing like i did to need the rebuild. Mechanic that looked after the works has no idea what caused it. Reckoned it may have been bearing clearance wrong in cylinder 1 we have no idea. Machinist who did the work reckoned it was something on the mechanic. Anyway thats between them, i had no part in it, just paid the money Curiosity question, does the oil system on RB’s go sump > oil pump > filter > around engine? If so, if you had a leak on an oil filter relocation plate, say sump > oil pump > filter > LEAK > around engine would this cause a low oil pressure reading if the sensors was before the filter?   TIA
