You've done a compression test and found a little drop in cylinder no1, so if it was me, thats where i would be looking.

Do a leak down test, theres a good chance no1 will fail the test which more than likely means headgasket.

All the other ideas are good, but when you've got a questionable compression test i would be looking there first.

but did they pressure test it hot? I know of a few now that did not show up under initial testing. car was puit back together and it happend again. crack was only opening up at temp. new head and the problem went away. it can sometimes be hard to diagnose. pourus block is less likely in my experience.

I was told it was x-ray'd for cracks.

An x-ray will show up a crack even if it's not hot right?

yeah you would hope so. but my advice would be get it leak tested HOT. people have been fooled before with 26 heads. the cracks is not always easy to find.

Yes, i've checked the water/oil mixture tap, flux capacitor and fusion reactor and they're all fine.

Any other ideas?

No sorry. You have checked everything.. you should pobly pull the engine out and get it fully checked.

could it be the block is cracked between where the head bolt goes into it and the water gallery on the outside of the bore.

99% of the time it's the cylinder 5 or 4 one EX side). The crack is usually very small, but grows. If you pull the head off you may not even see it as it starts sub-surface. Skim the block and you'll see it clear as days.

You get trace oil accumulating in your radiator, especially in your overflow? You empty it, it comes back?

The crack is small, but as the oil pressure is greater than the water pressure, it forces the oil through the crack into your water system. Over time, the crack will get bigger, and more will start on other head bolt / gallery places. The harder you drive, the faster it does it.

That is exactly what mine has done in the past

    • They usually get made by hand as part of any such swap.
    • Was planning on getting an R35 MAF and the adapter, should this be okay? Also any idea where I could get my hands on an intake pipe?
    • I mean yes, if you're starting from scratch on an unknown engine yes you don't need to be doing all kinds of math in the background but if you're doing relatively minor changes like AFM + injectors + boost up with some aftermarket turbos it takes quite a bit of math if you want to do something like maintain OEM fuel + timing tables but compressed and then a bit more load scale up top. I think I've spent too much time working on big engineering nightmares though so I'm a big fan of trying to constrain the scope of whatever work I'm doing as much as possible and trying to get it right before moving on. For example, a local owner just did the usual E85 + single turbo conversion to his R32 GTR and nearly burned his car to the ground doing some spirited driving up the local mountains. Turbine is unshielded and too close to the hood insulation. It's tough to balance "just get the project done" and "seemingly small details can cause massive setbacks I'm not willing to deal with".
    • No idea about Neil's steering wheel, but I have the same behaviour in the Stagea. I doubt it has ever been messed with so might be normal. Indicating to turn right at a roundabout and correcting even a little bit to the left to go around will cancel the indicator. Never considered it an issue other than it being a bit odd.
    • Does anyone know if this is off centered? Looks like it, when I indicate to go right, but turn my steering wheel slightly left it cancels (was always like that even before I started messing around with it) was wondering if anyone else has the same issue?
