I've seen it... ...and thought about it myself... ...It looks ok... ...You do need to have a FMIC to fill the space... ...And this seems to be the only reason to cut out the bar... ...Then you've just got to work out where to put your plate... ...And hope you don't get a cop pull you over who knows where your plate should be...

easy to do

i got a spare r33 m spec bar cut the middle out and reapinted it.

oso got to cut the reo bar. plasma cutter made short work of that.

ill find pics now and post them up.

looks the goods. i asked jetspeed about it but they wouldnt wanna take it on cause if it dont look right then its no good. would like to do myself too but concerned about the sections where the plastic "fins" join the bottom of the bar and top. was it hard to get flush? and i take it u had to respray after?

i just filed it all down then after that used sand paper to work out the non flush parts.

Yeah respray afterwards... did it myself didnt come up to bad !

Tho i use a professional spray gun since i have a compressor.

thanks for uploading the pics Brendan, it does look the goods hey. I used to have the big body kit on my car but i got way over that look and personally think the simple stock front bar cut out looks ALOT better.

I will definitely be giving this a crack this weekend.

And yes it is hard to find the m-spec bar, but i'll give it a shot and if i bugger it well i'll blame all you guys! :)

checked out my bar b4 and noticed the whole reo has to be chopped. not a fan of doin that. guessing that wen u get an aftermarket front bar the reo goes out the window?

Yep That correct

With the cutting of the mspec bar u can still retain it. Just chop out that middle bit.

I welded the remaining joints for extra strength before putting it back. Due to the fact i have welder and it takes only 10 mins to weld it.

Still wont b as strong but better then having nothing there at all.

just an after thought brendan. do u get any shit off the cops? like have they said anything about the reo?

Ive been pulled over before and they were having a look at my front bar / fmic. But they never said anything to me about it. Didnt even ask me to pop the bonnet.

The thing is the REO bar is always hidden behind the bumper so they wont pick u up on that, altough the pits would if you ever got a yellow but its easy enough to find spare reo bars at wreckers... As for the front bar the cops didnt even know that i had modified the front bumper they just thought it was a after market bar. If you do a good job on the front bumper you wont get any hassle from the police. Do a dodgy job where they can see its been changed/modified then you might.

I spent about a week chopping and modifiying the bar to make sure it was near to perfect in terms of looks and stability. Which as i said before included a full respray. ( i took off all the old paint and primered/painted and clear coated it)

So i guess if ur going to do it, do it right the first time and not only will it look great, you wont get any hassle from the police.

i had a crack at this on sunday. Just thought id bite the bullet and do it, i dont mind getting a bit hands on with things, anyways turned out not too bad. Looks a trillion times bettter than before and so much better even than my Jun front bar i had on there.

I had a go at fibreglassing too, not too bad, just needs a sand and some bog, and then im gonna have a go at painting it too!

I went a little different to you though brendan, not much, just i gave the bottom and sides a little more lip, will get some photos wen i get a chance.

My only problem is that now there is quite a gap between my front mount and the front bar, so ive got some fun trying to pull the cooler forward so its closer. But other than thats its all good and its looking great, all i can say is thanks for the inspiration!!!

I bought mine chopped up already (personally don't like it) probably gonna put 400r or stock.

Ya it only looks any good with the m-spec bar... not the early series 1 bars that you have.

It really is a easy job to modify.

I modified the reo just by using an angle grinder. then filed, sanded, primed and painted (so it doesn't rust)

the plastic front bar i modified with a quality industrial blade. to easy. the little gaps u are left with either side of the front bar can simply be plastic welded up. Keep the excess plastic you have cut out. Take to a quality body shop and they'll weld those holes up. Look like new (once re-sprayed of course)

The much harder task is if you are now modifying the bar to fit around an FMIC. I had to shave a heap off so many places to fit around the end tanks and piping (Blitz LM intercooler) but now looks the part. Quite an amount had to come off the back of the fake fog lamps (next to the indicators) as they went straight into the end tanks of the intercooler too.
