Not quite sure if this is the correct area, sorry if it's not.

Anyway I have looked around on the forum and I can't find as much information as I would like on exhaust systems for twin turbo (TT) GTR skylines.

So if you have a TT GTR skyline please post your advice, opinions and why on your exhaust system decision?

Here's an easy answer;

Ill assume you dont mean turbo back.

To do it on the cheap, go to JustJap and get

-XForce front pipes to suit GTR

-High flow cat

-Xforce catback.

Wont cost you much but will be a big difference over a stock GTR exhaust.

Of course most of the regulars here (including myself) prefer jap brands, but the exchange rate isnt good right now so unless you can get second hand stuff in the for sale section just buy domestic parts for now.

Want to do it a bit better though and done mind spending?.....

-Tomei dump pipes (ceramic coated)

-HKS front pipes (ceramic coated)

-High flow cat

-Kakimoto catback

...that sounds fkn tough but isnt cheap. You'll spend about $850 on dumps alone

I should also mention that this exhaust is not for a mild turbo/engine setup.

What about twin systems vs single systems??

For example:

(Twin system) Twin 3" dumps into twin 3" cats then twin 3" pipes to the diff then single 3 1/2" straight out the back.

(Single system) Twin 3" dumps into a single 3 1/2" cat, 3 1/2 exhaust straight out the back.

steve-o has it pretty much spot on. i've looked and tried quite a few set-ups over the years and my best one is:

tomei dumps (the only good dumps I can find that actually are decent sized with a 70mm+ outlet)

the current model large stainless HKS front pipes (the only true 76mm X 2 front pipes, merge to 85mm pipe)

cat back as straight as possible an 80mm+ (personally I'm using a Trust TR Power Evolution which is a 94mm race exhaust, with V-band flanges). 90mm is a good size.

Okay... After searching and searching I thought I might as well ask and this thread is relevant.

My car has R34 block, 2530s, 550 injectors, Power FC, Z32s, HKS hard piping kit, HKS EVC, HKS twin plate clutch, HKS cat back (80mm+), ther things I've probably forgot... All done in Japan. But, much to my frustration, it has stock dumps and stock cat. :down: I have since done the cat with a Catco 3", but the front pipe remains. I was going to get the car tuned again (possibly with cam gears).

My question is, how restrictive is the front pipe? Is it worth upgrading now? Spending relatively big cash to do the dumps right now isn't where my priorities lie but the front pipe can be done quite cheaply, are decent gains to be had here alone given my set up?

yes do the front i still have my stock dumps on r32 there not really that bad 336rwkw on 17psi still have a tune to come yet and more boost!

my system is a 3 inch inch straight tho no brand.... yes its loud....

Sweet thanks Steve, looks like the stock dumps still allow some decent power.

On the lowest reading dyno here in ACT (the only AWD Mainline) my car made 260awkW @ 20psi. Another car I know with 2860-5s made a similar figure on a bit less boost. Which I know is a very low figure, although enough to fry all 4 shitty Nexen tyres at 80-90km/h in 2nd. :P 255 Toyo T1Rs are getting fitted this week to the TE37s which'll fix that.

So I was wondering if the dumps, front and stock cat (genuine GTR, not compliance) combined with a supposedly low reading dyno can be enough to make that figure so bloody low at such high boost?

I guess it's front pipe and tune touch up on a different dyno to find out!!

380kw has been made on stock 33 GTR dumps with 2560 turbos.

Im changing back to standard GTR dumps because my stainless HKS split dumps are giving me creep. Also running 2560s.

Im also running a HKS Dual Racing Exhaust, its a full twin which never joins. Tuned length dual.

By changing from a single 3.7 HKS Super Dragger to this exhaust, boost shot up to 23psi from 17psi with no other changes! Let me say it must flow very well!!!

I have R33 GTR Dumps for sale if you need them, the R32 ones are crap.

P.S CES have the worst customer service in the world! dont bother with them!

Thanks Mat. But probably not at that stage yet and when I can be bothered pulling off the turbos I'll probably spend some cash on Tomei or something like that. In the mean time I guess I need to change the front pipe (although it's hard to see any real restriction there).

For street use, I just go a nice full 3" Nismo, or Kakimoto + a high flow cat.

Nice and quiet and would give you a nice flow.

That's exactly what I'm after, I couldn't be bothered with the negative attention and/or drone additional noise can bring. As clsoe to legal as possible ideally, without compromising flow too much. Right now I'm at 90db at 4500rpm but at 5000rpm raises a few db above it.

huh? that's wierd, if boost increased when you made an exhaust change, wouldnt this indicate more of a restriction?

that is, the backpressure can't escape quick enough, which drives the exhaust wheel faster, which drives the compressor wheel faster, which increases boost in the intake side without any change
