This year marks the 10th anniversary inception of the mighty R34 GT-R since January, 1999. So what better way to celebrate this milestone than to organise the first ever R34 10th Anniversary Charity Cruise n Show n Shine at Mount Wilson, NSW. Just up the Blue Mountains west of Sydney.

All R34 GT-R's, GT-T's and GT-V owners are welcome to participate and we are making this event as fun and memorable as possible for everyone.

Firstly, High Performance Imports have graciously offered to attend our Event and take Photographs and a story for a future issue in the magazine.

Secondly, we have organised an Aikido group to attend the day as well. Sensei Sagiba has kindly offered his Aikido Dojo Members to attend and for them to bring along weaponry to help make photos of your cars more dramatic. We can ask them to do a demonstration with katas etc if they're willing to, as well.

On top of all the above, we will also host a Show n Shine event with prizes awarded to the following categories.

- Best engine bay

- Best interior

- Best looking wheels

- Best exterior/paintwork

- Best GT-R

- Best GT-T

- Best overall car on the day

Representative of HPI will present those prizes with the likelihood of some pics being taken for the major categories.

And there's more...! If you'd like a balance between Yin and Yang, there'll be a lady (not in a bikini but) very dignified in her Kimono. So you choose as to whether you'd like a shot of her on one side and the martial artist on the other - or two martial artists posing with your car and you, the driver.

And to keep the Boys in Blue off our backs, we ask all participants to donate a coin to our nominated charity, Deep Blue. Deep Blue is a registered charity that is currently doing research on different types of depression and suicide.

And dont forget to bring your cameras too because the autumn colours will be at their peak if there's not too much rain before then. Further info will be supplied in due course with regards to food.

Remember, this Event will be an invitation for all R34 owners nationwide to attend. So ask your mates in other states to come and billet them. We will do our best to find motels with shallow gutters and secure (enough) parking for your precious gems.

The details of the cruise as follows.

Meet at P6 at Homebush Bay at 9-9.30am April 26 in order to leave at 10 SHARP

The convoy will set off west along Hill Rd > Parramatta Rd > James Ruse Dr > Briens Rd > Old Windsor Rd

> merging with Windsor Rd at Kellyville Ridge > ByPass Rd to connect with > Richmond Rd/Windsor St

> left into Market St (otherwise there's vicious speed humps in town) > right into March St/Kurrajong Rd

> across Hawkesury R. and Bells Line Of Road > turn right into Mt Wilson after 55Km from the River.

There's ONE fixed speed camera after Kurmond and there'll be ONE organiser at the front of the GT-R group and ONE near the end. There'll be ONE organiser at the front of the GT-T group and ONE near the end as well.

Please Note: that it's your responsibility to drive safely & it's your responsibility to check this thread in that, if there's inclement weather and the Photoshoot is called off, this Event will be delayed exactly ONE week (with same times).

The highlights of this Event are...the atmosphere of this glorious spot, the drama of martial artists presenting your car at its best, the Japanese theme with a Kimono clad lady, the cruise itself, the presence of a major motoring magazine to do our story, and of course the prizes to be won and then presented by High Performance Imports staff.

And don't feel left out the R32s and R33s. We have something in mind for 2010 ie 21st Anniv. and 15th Anniv. respectively!

Hey everyone,

For those of you attending this month's R34 10th Anniversary Charity Cruise, and Show 'n' Shine; here we are announcing the categories in which it is possible to win an award. :down:

All attendees will have the opportunity to have their vehicle judged. And all attendees will have the opportunity to put in votes for the car they think is best on certain criteria. You will note that as it is a day to commemorate the R34 Skyline, all except a few (otherwise stated) awards will be given to R34 Skylines attending on the day. At this stage, the plan is to conduct voting once we reach the photo shoot location at Mount Wilson.

There are 12 categories, as follows:

  1. Best R34 Skyline GT-R
  2. Best R34 Skyline (non GT-R; can be GT, GTt, 4 door, etc)
  3. Best R34 Interior
  4. Best R34 Exterior / Paintwork
  5. Best R34 Engine Bay (judged on workmanship / performance upgrades as well as aesthetics)
  6. Best Wheels on an R34 Skyline
  7. Best ICE / Hi-Fi in an R34 *
  8. Best R32 Skyline
  9. Best R33 Skyline
  10. Best R35 GT-R
  11. Best Non-R32 / R33 / R34 / R35 **
  12. R34 Concourse Award ***

* The In-Car Entertainment / Hi-Fi award is not a sound-off! It will be judged primarily on the quality of workmanship, extensiveness of ICE fitout and the quality of sound produced, NOT raw dB (peak noise output level). Once again we stress that all participants must respect the driving/parking environment that we are in (includes the hearing of members of the public).

** Your favourite attendee's car on the day that is not an R32 or R33 or R34 or "R35", this therefore means it could be a Stagea, S13 / S14 / S15, V35, Z32, Z33 or whatever happens to be there on the day.

*** Obviously Skylines are tuners' cars and it's possible there won't be any completely and utterly 'stock' examples of R34s there on the day, but this award will go to an immaculate, very well looked after R34 that is most likely (but doesn't have to be) very close to original, and epitomises the super happy fun special warm deluxe feeling of R34.

      Can we see a scan of the original quote? The problem with engineers (and by this, I mean, all engineers across all engineering industries) is that there are "engineers" and there are "engineers" (you'll have to imagine the two different vocal emphases on those two versions of the same word. Engineering is a mindset - your farm kid who spent his life rebuilding the tractor will likely make a good engineer. The farm kid who spent his life taking photos of butterflies.. perhaps not. But on top of that mindset, the modern engineer has to learn how to write so that there is absolutely no way of being misunderstood. Proposals/budget estimates/quotations are one place where this is absolutely vital. You have to delineate your scope of supply with extremely hard boundaries, and anywhere where there is any possibility of not being able to have such a hard boundary, you need to write language that will cover you from scope creep, cost overruns, the inevitable interference of the client or their "engineer", etc etc. Now, if your clients are the BHPs and the Rio Tintos of the world, and similar, then you get good at this. If you are an automotive engineer, pitching work to the great unwashed masses, your skills in this area might not be well developed, because you're only dealing with knuckle draggers trying to get a big block legal in a Torana. And when I say "might not"....I'd suggest there's a better than even chance that any such skills might be completely absent. So, we might be able to look at your quote and see what the opportunities are for rebuttal.

      Thank you for this my turbo doesn’t have the nipple so I’ll get one installed in the turbo to Intercooler piping. I’ll get everything I need and locate it all using the information you both gave and get back with an update.

      Please do not connect it to your manifold. If you do, as GTS suggested please record the lot in 4K with good mics attached.   On the factory Skyline, there's a upside down pipe that allows it to breathe, looks like this

      For me I'd need some serious justification for why it has blown out.  Have you questioned him on it?  To be honest if you didn't question him right from the get-go on the first invoice that was already way over the initial quote and then you've (presumably) then paid another $1375 on top of the first invoice, then you're pushing shit uphill to get a favourable result now... It was years ago I last got an engineer out but it was around $450-$550 per visit.  That was just to inspect each progress point he gave me for the project.  Is he just doing progress inspections or is he providing engineering diagrams, technical assistance, etc??  If he's not, he's a filthy rip off merchant.  If the $3100 is the final sign off then you need to cop it on the chin, pay it and move on.  If it's not, piss him off and get a new one.  Not many Jeeps I'd value at $10K full stop let alone just engineering fees on a written off, half actual value WOVR Jeep....
