Hi guys, just wondering if anyone knew who/where I can get my R32 turbo rebuilt in ACT??

I'm thinking about buying a turbo off some dude in Melbourne but it needs a rebuild he said, was just wondering if anyone does that here or would I have to send it to GCG in Sydney??

Also looking for some parts for my R32 gtst:

- Stock rims with rubber (my 19"s will rub at full lock if driftin)

- Highflowed turbo with internal wastegate and steel wheel preferably

- Coilovers to fit R32

- SAFC or power FC boost controller

- power steering reservoir hose (long shot i know, but Nissan charge $85 just for this!! bloody rip off)

- aftermarket coilpacks

- bigger aftermarket dump pipe

I've been meaning to introduce myself for a while now, I just got my R32 about a month ago and am still deciding whether or not to keep it and work it (which I'm sort of doing slowly anyway), or sell it and cut my losses :)

Any comments or suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated, do you guys have meets or anything?? I'm planning on going to the two drift days with Fifth gear for may/april no matter what car I've got then. I use to own a black Supra JZA80 and was part of the supra club...now look at me... i've joined the dark side :D

Turbo rebuild, goto Cooma diesel in Fyshwick. I got mine done there and I plan to take another on to them for a high flow.

Rims are too expensive in Canberra. People ask way to much but you might find a bargain, just keep your eye out.

Other stuff, best to get from interstate or order it. Most stuff in Canberra has a mark up.

There is a IDA Drift Day in May. I will post details up soon, as there is a lack of number to keep drift events happening close to Canberra.

I am also in the process of building a R32 drift car. Drifts okay, ask people about it, but the biggest problem is steering lock. Easy option to overcome this is to buy a 180, but then you'll be stuck with a nasty SR (sounds like it's farting as well).

If youre looking for advice I will try to help :)

1 - Dont bother getting a standard turbo rebuilt (especially not in Canberra) there are plenty of bolt on upgrades available through these forums or other websites that will do a much better job and cost about the same money as a rebuild / highflow.

2 - Look in the for sale threads on these forums for wheels, there are always cheap sets there.

3 - R32 coilovers for sale second hand are also fairly common in the for sale threads, I believe that 'Scooby' has some lowered Trust / Greddy springs for sale aswell.

4 - "SAFC or power FC boost controller" Do you already have a PowerFC? - If you do, you wont need the SAFC (Super Air Flow Converter)... If you mean to say that you are after a boost controller then you will need an AVCR (if you want A'Pexi)... I would recommend looking at getting a Turbosmart E-Boost 2 though.

5 - Coilpacks, Dump pipe and power steering hose - try www.Justjap.com, they should have everything you need.

Just a few more questions:

1. what type/size aftermarket bolt on turbo should I be looking at if I weren't to get my standard one rebuilt & highflowed?? Roughly how much would I be looking at and where would u recommend to install it here in Canberra??

2. How much would be a "cheap set" of R32 rims & mediocre tyres?? Is $300 too steep?? Is there anyone in Canberra with a set for sale?? I heard that 300zx rims also fit straight on? is this true??

3. How much would a decent set of secondhand coilovers be roughly so i don't get ripped off?? is only height adjustment sufficient??

4. To clarify, I don't have a boost controller or SAFC or any aftermarket computer, so I was wondering if it was better "value" (due to my limited budget to get only a SAFC or not even worry about it??? Can't I just set my boost higher rather than have an adjustable one??

Finally...so do you guys ever have any meet ups or cruises?? Would love to come meet some of you fellows and check out your cars and hopefully get some inspiration and good advice :)

Yeah I'm still unsure about keeping the R32 and trying to fit it out for drifting or cut my losses and sell her and get something more appropriate..mm... However I would still love to take her out onto the track and give it a good go whatever condition its in at the time, so keep us informed :D

How much are u paying to get ur turbo highflowed?? can they replace the ceramic wheel for a steel one?? how much power gain are u expecting to see, I"m really interested!!! Trying to work out if its better value to get mine rebuilt or get a nasty aftermarket one, keeping in mind I'm only after 180-200rwkw, enough just for some sliding!!

If I didn't go for a high flow, i'd get a KKR. They're not ball bearing turbo but they did say they would warranty track use. Otherwise a ballbearing turbo, they're expensive but they are soo much nicer. Unfortunately, no warranty for track use (if they find out).

I bought a pair of R32 wheels for $60-80, i forget. I wouldn't pay more than $200. 2nd hand tyres are generally free to $10. If they want money for the tyres, check the age, if it's been weathered and the brand.

Don't know how much coilovers would be worth, depends what you get. Becareful with 2nd hand, make sure you check the shocks are not blown or leaking. Check joints for noise/seizing. I would pay around $600 for second hand. New HSD's are around $1400-1500.

SAFC, isn't too bad, but doesn't compare againsts a full computer. You could even get a nistune chip tuned for the higher boost you run, what ever you set it at.

Dunno where you heard that from.

I know a few guys running KKR turbo's. They know how much they paid and what to expect but they haven't said anything bad about KKR turbos except they are slow off the line compared to a Ball bearing turbo.

I have seen two new GCG turbos blow up at Super Drift in Queensland, but that is my experience, someone else could say something different.

If it were me, I would pick the KKR480. It's pretty close to the price of a highflow rebuild for a RB25 turbo.

Thats interesting that the Supra guys would say that seeing as they are the ones who didnt turn up to the hillclimb when challenged... :(

In regards to your questions:

1 - Check the www.negun.com website, they usually do bolt on kits for RB engines for reasonable prices. If you are looking for only 180 - 200rwkw you wont need an aftermarket turbo at all (RB25 turbos are sufficent for that kind of power), but if you are after respose and reliability get a Garrett (or HKS) bolt on kit from ESP (6299 4444) or Trojan (6242 6277) and they will do you a deal on the install and tune.

2 - If you are looking for a cheap set of wheels there are plenty available on the for sale forum for less than $400 but dont expect to get great tyres on them... I know someone who can look after you on tyres though :P

Also Z32 300ZX wheels have the same PCD (stud pattern) as Skyline but they're a deeper offset and have larger centre bores for the bigger 300ZX hubs so you may need spacers and hub locator rings to make them fit.

3 - The price of coilovers will depend on their brand, type and condition - buy from a reputable member (someone with positive trader ratings) and you are more likely to get a decent set. A good condition set can range from about $400 - $1500.

4 - An aftermarket computer will allow you to tune your engine much more than an add on like an SAFC, you can get a PowerFC these days for about $1400 - $1500 - which is a great plug in upgrade, there are better units available though (Vipec for example).

If you want to turn the boost up from your standard turbo then just get a bleed valve (manually adjustable controller) but be careful how far you turn it up as they arent exactly reliable (I wouldnt advise turning it up more than 11 - 12psi).

5 - We meet up at shows like Marques in the park and Shannons Wheels car show, but there are also a bunch of regulars who meet up in the city every Friday night.

The only real direct bolt on kits are the HKS ones, as they include everything to bolt them up but they aren't cheap.

GCG sell Garrett bolt on kits, my old GT30/71R kit came with all gaskets and bolted straight on to the manifold (with the spacer supplied, dump pipe and inlet pipe (I had to buy my own hoses and lines though).

my HKS turbo was direct bolt on, but HKS turbos arent exactly cheap.

In regards to KKR turbos, Simon (mang) has one. He is making pretty good power from it.

The meetup point on fridays is Grevillia Park, near Russell, people rockup normally from 9:30pm onwards.

Actually just found out its a JJR480 thats been highflowed to a 560, if that makes sense
