I have finished stripping down most of my RB26 donor engine rady to build up the B30.. I noticed when I took off the Oil filters there is a slight difference between the RB30 and RB26 block?? My RB26 is from an R33 and has a water cooled oil cooler that the filter then mounts to. On the RB30 the filter is direct onto the block. When you remove the cooler from the RB26 instead of having a thread, there is a lug sticking out that is a snug push fit inside the oil cooler housing (I assume this is to direct the oil flow correctly) How do I modify my RB30 block to accept the same cooler or is it easier/better to dump it and get a relocation kit and traditional type cooler? I am sure I have seen RB30's with the RB26 type cooler so presume it's possible?

Thanks

Lee

yes it can be done, i just unscrewed the fitting out of a rb26 block that has the slot in it for the oil cooler block and used that to screw in the place of the threaded one on the rb30, it screws straight in and works same as rb26. To get the 30 one out i ground a straight into it with an angle grinder and used a thin bar to unscrew it (was damn tight, might need to heat it with any oxy to crack the seal if its really tight), the rb26 one already has a slot in it so use a piece of bar that will fit in it and do the same.

what doesnt work? do u mean pushed as in making alot of power? ive never had an issue yet with mine, i have removed it from my other motor but redoing all the water lines etc under the plenum is a pain, well harder than just screwing the rb26 oil cooler on anyway. whats a gts4 one look like?

im mean when your thrashing the car they do sweet fa in cooling the oil.

the gts4 one is angled to suit the front diff. and when a sandwich plate goes on its much easier to work with. but you will need the 26 block fitting.

basicly the same but without all the hoses and cooler in place..

fair enough sounds like a good idea i didnt even know about the gts4 ones, thanks for the info

cheers for the info guy's I have to say when looking at the blocks I thought the stub in the middle must be removable.. So I have two options.. Well three... RB26 oil cooler which I can see probably does jack if you are really giving the car death.. GTS4 cooler.. Is it an air cooler or water cooler?? I wasn't clear on that.. Finally get a relocation kit and fit a regular oil cooler.. I presume a 19 row regular type rad cooler would be fine for a start?? I don't intend doing heavy track use at all.. just a road toy if that helps!

I was also planning on removing some of the other junk under the inlet plenum while I am at it to tidye tings up a bit.. I hear the Idle valve can be removed and then it's a cse of joining some pipes and blanking others..

By the way T04GTR.. What is the car in your avatar?? I can't make up my mind!? looks like a beast anyway..

DR30?? I am guessing that is a very early liner?

Anyway. When you say the relief valve in the block I oresume you mean the bit that looks like a ball bearing? I wouldn't have enven considered removing it!

So basically it's a sandiwch plate of some sort and relocation kit or cooler kit.. 19 row not worth bothering with?? Only ask as they seem to be very common and easy to obtain!

Thank you

    • Howdy all,   I had my rb25det S2 rebuilt and finally started it today but have run into a few issues  Engine sounds like a a diesel easiest way to summarise like small ticking, gets louder when revs are slightly adjusted  The engine builder repainted the engine cover leaving no where for me to go off with lining up the CAS so have it as central as possible so not sure it that could be affecting it?, changed the gearbox fluid too but won’t seem to go into gear when running, and only 1 to 4 when off having a hard time finding 5th and reverse anyone got any ideas or a base for me to start off? much appreciated
    • Well, no. It's an 023, which is pretty similar to an 040. Although it is hard to tell from the specs, as given.
    • Hmm. Maybe the (other thing I forgot about!) Haltech removes at least some, if not all, of the problem I described. I guess there is still the possibility of getting it wrong if the AC is set up/wired up for the Haltech as if it was in an R34 (simply because it's on a Neo), and that's playing foul with the R32 AC computer.
    • Glad it eventually came out Duncan!   I believe that might be 040. 044 is the inline pump, so has screw fittings in and out. 040 is more just drop it in fuel and the bottom is "open" (mesh) from my memory
