ok guys i know this has been done to death but i need some quick straight answers. im looking at new tyres for an R32 GTR its not a daily but is mainly weekend driven but am also looking to do some track days.

i have been quoted roughly 1500 for a set of RE55s's but they are 17/40/255 and 17/45/235. is this a good deal and will i get any trouble with the attesa seeing as the 255 is a 40 and the 235 is a 45. the guy at the shop was telling me that the 40 and 45 will still be the same rolling diameter as that number is made from the per centage of the width?? or somthing like that and do you think the car will understear any more having a 235 on the front as opposed to 255's on the front??

can anyone confirm disagree, maybe even offer another soultion as far as tyres go??

cheers

RE55's are a very good track tyre on a GT-R. they are pretty awful things on the road, however.

The price is about right, but check the compound (you want SR2's) & the build date on the tyre sidewall (written in week number & year so for example 2608 would be fron July last year).

The front & rears should be the same size on a GT-R. Not just from a ATTESSA viewpoint but from a chassis balance (ie understeer/oversteer) viewpoint.

GT-R's understeer like cops due to poor weight distribution. You need to have the same rubber all round & do some fairly drastic mods to the suspension settings to get them balanced. By this I mean fairly large amounts of negative camber on the front - in the three and a half degree ballpark depending on the circuit.

255/40 - sidewall = 102

235/45 - sidewall = 106

Rears will have a smaller rolling diameter than fronts, so ATTESSA will not perform as designed.

I would expect that Nissan designed to GT-R to handle best with the same size tyres front and rear - why does everyone have to doubt their engineering ability and fit something different?

ok thank you will deffinatley look in to this

not doubting engineering ability at all just listening to what a so called "expert" had to say thats all.
