msports180
I recently took my stagea over the pits to get it mod permitted. Amongst some other things they picked on my window tint, its the darkest legal tint on the front 2 windows which wasn't a problem. But all the back windows have dark as tint which is considered "illegal". Now what i thaught were the rule is that the back windows you can have as dark as you want? Its only the two front windows that must be legal? They said no it has to be of legal darkness all round, they said if its in the glass its OK but not of its tint? How is that fair? Does anyone know whats the go on this? My old 180 passed complience with darker tint on the back then this has. bubba
It's fair because if it's in the glass it came like that from the factory and they can't expect you to replace all the glass. Pattygtst
I believe you can have the back as dark as you want if its a registered business Vehicle. Why else would vans be allowed to have no back windows. I think you can go darker on the back think its 15% and 35% on the sides not sure though. Ten Four
Same scenario here. My doors had darkest legal tint but rear quarters and rear window was just a touch darker. Failed me for that. Ended up getting the tint on the quarters and rear window removed which was ok then... :\ Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/260728-window-tint/#findComment-4472801 Share on other sites

NA_Goodness
SN1P3R had 15% all round, took it off the front windows and passed. Just who you get really. My mate's dad drives a limo Statesman (not stretched though) and he needs to remove the tint every year to go over the pits so it's a bit confusing. Maybe the laws have changed recently? Tritty
This might be useful. http://www.dpi.wa.gov.au/mediafiles/lic_ci-103a.pdf http://www.dpi.wa.gov.au/mediafiles/lic_ib-119a.pdf (<<Read this) Hope that helps. If you are going darker than legal you may as well do it all round, it will look better. Had 34 coupe and 32 coupe pass with dark 1/4 n rear , made to remove tint of the 34 as it was dark and 32 had no front tint . Where it turns to shit is new cars now have " privacy glass " which is pretty dark on rears , i gave up trying to work out how they pass shit n fail others Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/260728-window-tint/#findComment-4473215 Share on other sites

Woodys
Thanks that pretty much answers it.Has to come off Just make sure you remove the tint from back window with steamer so you have a much greater chance of saving your rear demisters. When removing tint from rear window there is always a chance you will loose your rear demister bars. bubba
There is a rather ambiguous line in there.. Note that for any vehicle to have darker tinted windows permitted, it must have external rear vision mirrors fitted to both sides of the vehicle. msports180
There is a rather ambiguous line in there.. Yes i just re-read it all today now ive finished night shift and seems that the whole document is something that depends on how you want to interpret it? it may or may not be legal just depends on the guys mood and whether he thinks you are a hoon or not probly. bubba
The way I intepret it is: I have external rear view mirrors on both sides so I should be able to have all of my side and rear windows as dark as I want aslong as it isn't reflective to the point of blinding people. So he went to a different guy, big smiles it was all good Edited March 13, 2009 by v35_Pau Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/260728-window-tint/#findComment-4476101 Share on other sites
DTSNR32
I have 5% on my back windows and 10%on my front and side windows. Been pulled over a few times and cops have put a torch up to it and all but never said a thing about it.
