hi guys

checked my coolant today (R33), bloody thing was bone dry, only had it two weeks.i went to top it up until i flush it, but the coolent went right through it, radiator is full and temp is fine but coolent tank is empty,is there a hose underneath it? can't see one. or is it the wrong tank? i'm looking at the one on the left next to front quarter, it says coolent on lid.

Cheers

there is a hose that enters the small coolant overflow from the bottom at the front, that hose should go to under your radiator cap.

by "the coolant went right through it" i am assuming it just dumped onto the floor, so check that hose for a good fit. if the hose looks fine, then you somehow got a hole in your bottle ;)

Ok

the coolent overflow, pipe runs from under radiator cap to the container on far left. Q: is this the coolent tank? or is it located elsewhere, it says coolent on lid so i just thought that would be it, i do think it's abit small for coolent as the windsreen wiper tank is bigger.

yes that is the coolant tank.

When running normally this should be filled to the full mark. This means that the radiator and cooling system is full, and the excess is stored in the tank in the corner of the engine bay.

if you've poured 2 litres in and it hasnt drained out on to the floor pour some more in and run the engine.

the coolant should stop draining once its reached the right level.*

* if it keeps draining and the engine suddenly runs like crap you have far far bigger problems.

It's more like an overflow tank. If the coolant gets a bit too hot, it can force past the radiator cap. The bottle is there to catch the excess. When the engine cools down, a vacuum is created inside the cooling system, and the water in the overflow is forced back into the cooling system (block / radiator).
