235/45 = 106mm sidewall. 255/40 = 102mm = not the same diameter.

it's not much different but given that rears in powerful GTRs tend to wear faster too you quite quickly are outside of the (small) tolerance that attessa can cope with. basically your rear wheels will always be turning faster than the fronts which means the car thinks there is rear wheel spin all the time. which is not a good thing.

yes with some thought you can get different width tyres that are the same diameter but it's not worth it for a number of reasons.

1. GTRs need all the front grip they can get. running smaller front tyres is a bad idea and will give you more understeer.

2. running same size all round means you can rotate front to back which will extend the life of your tyre sets.

it's a far better idea to take the pain now and sell up what you have and get back to a set of equal sized wheels and tyres than to live with the problem.

Thanks BB,

I do experience understeer (thought that was just from a really heavy front end) and the rears are wearing faster than my fronts. Should I try for 255's all round? Probably a bit too thick you think?

Thx for the info, just did the math myself and got 3.75mm difference.

Makes sense for all the reasons you listed. Cheers

I said this in a thread a while back and got flamed hard, where were you then beer barron didnt matter anyway i knew i was right :verymad:

Being the former owner of a BF F6 Typhoon, I can say that stock, they will do a 13sec 1/4, mine had 241rwkw.

With 320rwkw, you will see low 12's.

There are many that run in the 11's and a few in the 10's and a couple in the 9's.

The Autos are much faster than the manuals.

2 - details of the "john bowe special"

:verymad:

I can tell you there is no such thing as a JB special Typhoon. The guy is full of shit. JB did make brake, suspension and exhaust (catback) that did SFA to the cars power.

To get 320rwkw they would need a Ford flash tune (Edit), injectors, fuel pump and full exhaust.

if that shit box falcon 320kw who cares

the gtr will shit on it....

if i were u and if u know how to drive, id bet my car on it over the quarter mile...... sell the shit box falcon, and buy yourself some more mods

Why in your lernered opinion is the Falcon a "Shit box" ?

Just because it is not a Nissan, does not make it a bad car. Having owned 3 in the last 6 years has suprised me on their build quality and performance.

Nextime you are out at WSID try your luck next to one.

BFYB the T6 is the cheapest cars to make go really fast.

Next time keep your uneducated and ill informed comments to yourself.

Thanks Mal for your input, being a previous owner of a typhoon you will have the anwers i look for first hand. We are set to have a run next wed at WSID. If he pulls out I will run regardless. He has a manual and is apparently pretty bad at driving it lol. In terms of the John Bowe special, earlier on in this topic Jason posted a link to an FPV sight that was selling John Bowe packages as an option for the Typhoon. It included throttle body, airbox, muffler, and custom pin striping with a John Bowe signature on it. It may or may not have some sort of ECU enhancement done to it.

For the record a fully worked Falcon XR6 Turbo in the dry will woop a GTR's butt these engines are capable of producing insane horsepower.

In the wet and with corners then that is a different story. :P

Wow thanks for that.. For the record that was a completely useless post.

This has taken a different turn if he plans on running the gtr as rwd and not awd, almost think that the T6 may take him down the quarter depending on the launch.

Should make it a little more interesting.

Obviously these two need to go to the 1/4 now and see who is quicker and then let us know with time slips to prove.

Good luck mate, you going to need it.

lol, sorry  i do miss the odd one...

JEZ13: yes 255s all round is fine. depends on what size wheels you have. if they are say 8.5 and 9s. you may want to run 245s all round. that will be a good size on both the 8.5s and the 9s. but to be honest the best bet is to sell them and get a set of 17X9s all round and you can happily run 235s, 245s or 255s all round on the 9. R33 GTR wheels are a good choice, they are strong, look good, and not expensive. otherwise there are heaps of GTR suitable wheels out there in this size. I even have a set of BBS LMs in 17X9 +20 which I use as street wheels. the other option is hunt down a pair of wheels the same as your rears to put on the front.

If it is a manual, he will need to be a gun driver to get decent times.

Because the Typhoons are heavy, they are VERY hard to get off the line. I think the fastest manual is a 11.3 with around 400rwkw. This is all to do with getting it off the line, where an auto with the same power will be in the low 10's.

A GTR even in RWD will get off the line much better due to the low weight and lack of torque working against the tyres.

I would only be worried if he rocks up with slicks, no matter how much power he has.

Good luck, make sure you put some money on it.

P.S THe JB gear is counted as a joke around the Ford Turbo sites.

Quoted to be annoying, and because this post is based on no idea what so ever.

Godzilla all the way, a mate of mine had an R32, N1's with N1 cams, fuel pump with abit of boost, never dynoed but my estimate was 270-280kw (only estimate, could have been less but fk went hard) with four blokes in the car smashed an F6, it had nothing and with windows down he was into it. but to my broken heart, 2 weeks later both turbos gone and after 3k for new ones engine presurised and sold it for 7.5k

oh the memories
