2nd in class both days and I think I was 6th outright on Saturday and 5th on Sunday.

Sick, great result. I hope I can join in on the supersprints in a few months. I need to do some work to the R32 GTST an get it back on the track.

I noticed the placings on the results sheet only goes up to 88. Wasn't there 110 entrants yesterday? If this is so 22 results are missing??

Thanks for your help.

Rgds,

Andy

Umm stepping stone to Europe... perhaps if it still had a Cosworth engine. Its a holden V6!!!! Comparing it to an F1 car is like saying my mums 6 cyl Commodore is a V8 Supercar.

that's exactly what it was.

it was the pinnacle of motor racing in Australia, deciding the Australian Driver Championship. I think the Goldstar championship even used to send the winner to Europe.

The category was designed to give our young talent a taste for decent power big aero cars as a stepping stone to Europe. They changed to an internationally recognised category some years ago to further this initiative. no-one in Europe knew what a Formula Holden was.

You would have known there was limited opportunity to race it when you picked it up cheap. You can still drive it at these events, so what's the big deal? You know you were the fastest car there, and so does everyone else. They knew you would be before you pushed it off the trailer/transporter... If you want a trophy go buy one for $10. If you want a free pass to a state championship in a competition where you have no real opponents then i can't say i sympathise. we'll have to agree to disagree.

they ran a minute flat around Oran Park GP you know. No tin top is ever going to be able to do that.

How dare you accuse me of trophy hunting... do you think I care about a $10 trophy? Don't jump to childish conclusions. This is not a club day, its a state championship. I want to be treated the same as the other competitors and not ostrocised. You just wait until its your category thats on the line and then lets watch you squeal like a pig. If they treated type 5 equally, then I would have quite a few opponents. Bring it on, I'm not winning the Hillclimb Championship, but I'm happy to compete with all those faster than I am, because I'm treated equal.

Thanks Michele,

This is great, I have an issue though, my brother ran yesterday and was on the time sheets posted at time control yesterday, last we checked he was in 43rd position in a Nissan S13 Silvia running about 1.24.7 He does not appear on the results you have posted at all??

What number was he running?

I know - it was built for a national circuit racing category designed to give people a stepping stone to Europe. It was the category that decided the Australian Drivers Championship. Not a club level car in any way, shape or form.

Its a State Supersprint Championship. Supersprints are designed as a stepping stone into circuit racing. Its for grass roots competitors. You won't see Kimi Raikonnen (the equivalent of Federer & I should have picked a name I could spell!) turning up in his F1 car. And yes i would agree to not letting him play if he did turn up. And you won't see many other National open wheel category cars (F3 or whatever the latest flavour is now) bothering with a supersprint either - its like swatting flies

1. Kimi Raikkonen has been driving all his life (since age 3!!) - Michele has been driving for 2 years - has only been driving the formula holden just over 12 months. Michele's point about the tennis players was to demonstrate discriminating against someone wanting to compete at their level - we dont do that in tennis. Michele just wants to compete, completely fairly and be eligible to any points, at her level!

2. What is a club level car? what a silly comment....you could say clubbies, that have been worked, are not club level cars - you could say that the worked V8 Maloo ute that runs in our club hillclimb is not a club level car....i'll say no more!!!

3. The point of Michele's and Neil's argument/concerns regrading the NSW state Supersprint Championship is that it discriminates - plain and simple.....there is also a level of inconsistency between state and national level. Michele can win outright at the nationals but not at state level...both CAMS events...

4. I know Michele wouldnt have anything against the clubbies, tin tops and everyone else eligible to win outright - I'm sure she will be the first to congratulate them.....its a problem with the rules - its a problem with CAMS - its a problem with the SS panel.....they are discriminating against a class of cars - which they are very happy to take their money and let them run - just dont let them take out the title!!!

I dont mean to bag/flame you - but as I said in point 3 is what it is all about.....making not completely informed comments doesnt help......lets get behind Neil and Michele and change this disconnect/inconsistency.

What we all need to understand is this

Michele runs an open wheeler

I do not.

If Ben brings his new car it's not an open wheeler either and will still be in 5D.

None of us are allowed to accrue championship points.

It's pretty bloody simple.

What we are asking for is simple,,,fix the rules so we can all have a chance at getting the outright.

Neil.

What number was he running?

I think he was 551.

I tried to enter this but was put on reserve. I was only given a late entry (late as in 8.00pm on Saturday night!) which I could not accept.

I had no idea these things are so highly contested and controversial!

I'll see what I can find for him. Don't be put off by this controversy, they are a great bunch and none of this crap goes on 'on the day' (well not that I'm aware of). You will have a ball.

Like I said before - uninformed comments just make you look like a complete fool - and dont help.....

I see lots of people reading this thread, that have had contact with Michele (in person and/or on this forum)....is she a trophy chaser? I dont think so one little bit. Did she enter the state championship just for a "free pass" - not at all - these comments of yours are just totally misinformed and could be said to be spiteful....

Michele is very helpful and encouraging and has helped many people on these forums to get into grass roots motorsport.....unfortunately you cant see past having a go at Michele to the real issue!!!

terribly sorry if what I said offended anyone, but the only thing Michelle is missing out on is a trophy and points in a series where she has no competition. that's the fact of the matter. rationalise your argument any way you want.

Neil.

ben bought a car with no suitable class to race it in. michelle bought a car from a defunct racing category. Neil has a car that people only buy to run in a specialised sports car class - supersports. That class doesn't exist at the club level motorsport of sprints. so they lump all your oddball cars into type 5 to allow you to run even though none of you have a suitable class. you all still get to run at the NSW Supersprint Championship, and all you do is whinge about how you're not allowed to take out the championship with your vastly superior equipment with no opposition.

If you wanted to compete (I mean actually compete against other vehicles in a similar configuration/level of performance) in the NSW Supersprint Championship with a chance of winning it outright, then you could have bought a car in a category that is eligible for points and compete aganst other similar cars. Michelle wants into a championship that has no suitable competition and the obvious end result is that she will bludgeon the opposition with a vastly superior vehicle. That would be great for the other 120 odd competitors!

the alternative is you end up with what we had up here, a single Formula Holden entering and the QLD Championship was instantly a foregone conclusion. Everyone else is just racing for class wins. What's wrong with just making the odd one out race for class wins instead and let the CHampionship be decided in a fair fight?

Just goes to show how little you know about the type 5 cars running around NSW. As I said before, I would have plenty of competition if they weren't discriminated against, and most of them would make me look slow. Like I said before, let them come, let them win, I don't have a problem with that. May the fastest time win... now that's what I call an outright winner. But it seems you prefer the tall poppy syndrome, if you can't beat em, kill em off. Nice work.

Don't forget that I am in a legitimate CAMS category and this is an open CAMS Championship, I have as much right as any other category to run at this event. There are currently five type 5 cars in the Championship and I am aware of another three who are on standby and could jump in at any time.

Once upon a time, coloured people weren't allowed to play golf, go to uni, or hop on a bus. Someone had to fight for equality. But some people prefer to use smoke and mirrors and try to turn it into something more sinister and call it by another name (trophy hunting?)... what phooey!! You're focussing on the wrong target, I on the other hand am not.

Well Harry,,,maybe before you post what you think is right I think you should do a little homework. Trouble is you can't because your not here racing this State Championship.

Actually Michele is not missing out on a trophy,,,she will get one but we are missing out on Champ points.

I read in one of your posts that you had a guy up there turning up doing a great time and going home. John did this at almost every round last year. He should not have that luxury and if I was included in the champ points he would have to fight till the last run.

Harry you are not offending me mate,,,I love your input. Michele is very beatable and I will keep her on her toes. Wait till the shorter tracks.

Ben didn't buy his car to race,,,he bought it do trackdays and the like. I only included his car because one day he might and no points.

Neil.

Yes... Neil frequently beats me... so does Phil Pratt in a billy kart of all things (Trojan Superkart) and I love the competition, I have a great time and we laugh when he beats me. We torment each other and call each other names and have something to look forward to the next time.

John did a sterling job yesterday and I know there will be times when he will kick my butt out there too. I don't care, I just want to be included. To be honest, I wouldn't mind betting John wouldn't have any issues with type 5 being included as well.

Thats the one I thought was a type of Aussie car (yellow one). What is it?

Thats a great shot of Neil in the mirror, thats a keeper.

Thanks!

No idea, I've never seen it before  and like you I thought it was some sort of aussie racer at first. Looks like the bastard child of a Hot Rodder. :)

I think you may be wrong there i know im backing up my old man but last year was very close at times, Jason with his WRX beat my old man quite a few times, and so did other cars in SV and type 4, you have to still remember we are still road registered and on DOT tyres, look at the results from the weekend, if you take out the 2 type 5 cars for outright as per the series rules the top 10 cars were all with in 1 second, so it will make the whole championship a close battle this year. I call that a good battle.

I think to run for outright in the State sereis the cars has to be based on a production type car.

Did Mark (551) register for the Championship Series? If so, let me know and I will find out what has happened to his paperwork, seems those who sent their forms to CAMS had most of their forms go AWOL. If he didn't, then this is why he wasn't on the original results I posted up.

    • Yeah, all the crude is used for fuels and petrochem feedstocks (pesticides, many other chemicals, etc etc). But increasingly over the last few decades, much of the petrochem synthessis has started with methane because NG has been cheaper than oil, cleaner and easier and more consistent to work with, etc etc etc. So it's really had to say what the fraction either way is. Suffice to say - the direct fuels fraction is not insigificant. Heavy transport uses excruciatingly large amounts. Diesel is wasted in jet heaters in North American garages and workshops, thrown down drill holes in quarries, pissed all over the wall to provide electricity to certain outback communities, etc etc. Obviously road transport, and our pet project, recreational consumption camouflaged as road transport, is a smaller fraction of the total liquid HC consumption again. If you're talking aboust Aussie cars' contribution to the absolute total CO2 production of the country, then of course our share of the cubic mile of coal that is used for power generation, metallurgy, etc adds up to a big chunk. Then there is the consumption of timber. Did you know that the production of silicon metal, for example, is done in Australia by using hardwood? And f**king lots and lots and lots of hardwood at that. Until recently, it was f**king jarrah! There are many such sneaky contributors to CO2 production in industry and farming. NG is used in massive quantities in Australia, for power gen, for running huge water pumps (like, 1-2MW sized caterpillar V16 engines running flat out pumping water) for places like mine sites and minerals/metals refineries. And there are just a huge number of those sort of things going on quietly in the background. So NG use is a big fraction of total CO2 production here. I mean, shit, I personally design burners that are used in furnaces here in Oz that use multiple MW of gas all day every day. The largest such that I've done (not here in Oz) was rated to 150MW. One. Single. Gas burner. In a cement clinker kiln. There are thousands of such things out there in the world. There are double digits of them just here in Oz. (OK< just barely double digits now that a lot of them have shut - and they are all <100MW). But it's all the same to me. People in the car world (like this forum's users) would like to think that you only have to create an industrial capability to replace the fuel that they will be using in 10 years time, and imagine that everyone else will be driving EVs. And while the latter part of that is largely true, the liquid HC fuel industry as a whole is so much more massive than the bit used for cars, that there will be no commercial pressure to produce "renewable" "synthetic" fuels just for cars, when 100x that much would still be being burnt straight from the well. You have to replace it all, or you're not doing what is required. And then you get back to my massive numbers. People don't handle massive numbers at all well. Once you get past about 7 or 8 zeros, it becomes meaningless for most people.
    • @GTSBoy out of the cubic mile of crude oil we burn each year, I wonder how much of that is actually used for providing petrol and diesel.   From memory the figure for cars in Australia, is that they only add up to about 2 to 3% of our CO2 production. Which means something else here is burning a shit tonne of stuff to make CO2, and we're not really straight up burning oil everywhere, so our CO2 production is coming from elsewhere too.   Also we should totally just run thermal energy from deep in the ground. That way we can start to cool the inside of the planet and reverse global warming (PS, this last paragraph is a total piss take)
    • As somebody who works in the energy sector and lives in a subzero climate, i'm convinced EV's will never be the bulk of our transport.  EV battery and vehicle companies over here have been going bankrupt on a weekly basis the last year.
    • With all the rust on those R32s, how can it even support all the extra weight requirements. Probably end up handling as well as a 1990s Ford Falcon Taxi.
    • Yes...but look at the numbers. There is a tiny tiny fraction of the number of Joules available, compared to what is used/needed. Just because things are "possible" doesn't make them meaningful.
