grimr33per
in the past few days my power steering pump has been making whiney groaning noises, and not just when turning the wheel..... it was sort of on-off, especially when it was cold.... now it's noisy-as ALL THE TIME. i thought for a frightening minute that my turbo was rooted because the sound came from that side of the engine and picked up volume with revs.... but it definately sounds like the pump, and i've had trouble with it before (line cracked and it ran dry). weird thing is, steering seems fine physically (no dead spots etc, pressure seems normal) any idea how much a new pwr steering pump would cost? i.e. from cresta or alljap or somewhere? or could it be something more sinister??? JimX
Might just need reconditioning, cost around $100 I think. A new one would be over $400 from Nissan for sure. Is the fluid level ok? Might just be a bit low. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/26109-totally-munted-power-steering-pump/#findComment-553449 Share on other sites

JimX
I'm not sure, I had a quote of around $100 done by someone about 3 times removed and I never ended up doing it, I used some of that stop leak stuff to fix mine. Ask your mechanic, he should be able to give you some idea of who does them and how much they cost.
