Found out from a mate that there's a guy in briz vegas that chops rims an makes em wider . . . Anyone knw about this ?

ive heard about someone making a wheel have more offset by like welding on spacers or some shit

sounds backyard to me man and backyarders are dodgy

Your life depends on the 4 wheel! No dodgy... noo......

Hahaha... I didnt realise the offset. I still dont get it though. What I've gathered is most common offsets are greater than 20 and for most it'll be above 30.

Someone gotta gimme a lesson on it someday.

The Harrys meet might be good tonight. HATE TAX and 57NGR seems to be going too... Hahaha. Chicken Schnitzel here I come!

For those that MIGHT be interested, Adam (brizzy_rocker), John (yaface) and I will be there for dinner.

old lessons for old brandon

lets just say a 7" rim with a 45 offset is epic epic fail

wheel.offset.gif

so now you can see why the lower the offset - the more the wheel will stick out of the guard

Oh nah I dont want that, this guy chops em and welds pieces in the middle to make the wheel wider on the inside so you can fit bigger rubber on

so just as an example; all these rear wheels are 9" ok, but with different offset

+30 offset

+20 offset

+10 offset

0 offset

-5 offset

now yes the guards and profile/width of tyre can vary n shit - but you get the general idea

class dismissed

personally i'd sell your wheels and get new ones which are correct width/offset etc

Still dodgy. It'll be even worse if you have a high powered car. Anything thats broken (intentionally or unintentionally) will not be as strong which is why 1piece forged rims are so exp.

Tris: guess what? I'm an idiot again, seems like always managed to go on the wrong channel all the time. I thought you were referring to the offset when you said 7... HAHAHA. Yes, 7" wide is fail. Fit maybe 205? I wish mine were like colin's 10.5 ;)

If you find that pic of my car you will see what 17 X 9 +24 is like. Althought I have rolled/flared the guards a bit.

What are they anyway?

Back on those pic, yea I sorta figured out the difference between positive and negative offsets but I remembered someone told me its related to dish. Say if you've got +22 and +15 on the same wide and size rim, the +22 will have more dish and this is what confuses me. What I understand from looking at those cross sectional diagrams is the offset's got nothing to do with the dish size, its the width and rim design that dictates it. What offset does is determine how much your wheels will stick out or in from the hub.

correct...cause spacers are for LOSERS!!

Not really man.

Simon's wheels are some of the strongest and most expensive and some of their models are 3 piece. They are made to your order though.

Forged rims are expensive because they are strong and light.

You might also find that some welded connections are just as strong as some metals....but you can't cut and weld forged rims, because they are magnesium alloy, because it weakens the alloy. Steel rims you can.

Dish man, is just a term for what some wheels have when the spoke doesn't protrude to the edge of the mag. For example. An XD9 Work rims has dish...and XT7 work rim does not. even though they can be gotten in the same size....dish is just a wank term used to discribed the flat surface between the spoke and the edge of the wheel.

What are they anyway?

My rims are Volk GT-AV - 19" x 8.5F, 9.5R not sure what the offsets are though the back fits perfect with f**k all camber and the front are about 10mm inside the gaurds

correct...cause spacers are for LOSERS!!

Yeah Im not a fan (got none on mine) but it is hard to find wheels that fit perfect

im more into Lucy Pinder, or maybe Kim Kardashian, or if i was in a cougar mood perhaps Monica Bellucci or Cathrine Zeta Jones

Lucy Yes, Kardashian doesnt do it for me at all

over. rated.

True

Pretty good price and looks good too!

Fail width, Fail offset

ugh shit i just saw that those bc's are 17*7 fail!

Think thats for steelies mang. 3 piece rims you can get new outers for, but they are not chopped.

Was going to go into this but seems its been covered already

    • Hi soviet_merlin, We appreciate your concern regarding this possibly being some sort of PR/Political hype, I assure you that is not the case, I wish we could claim something like that, but in this case, we merely reached out for comment on the basis of the outrage we too felt, as those heavily in the automotive industry. Ps. the original source in the social media post is CarExpert not CarExplore.    Best, CE.
    • Made a bit of a discovery, but while I was cruising, I randomly decided to test to see if it worked and it showed up on my IC7. The entire time I tested it before, I never thought to turn the ignition on. I only tested it with head lights turned on but with the ignition off. Huge oversight on my end. I’m a dummy. I know.
    • G'day all, I have drilled and tapped the hole for the relocation of the timing belt tensioner. That was straight forward. I'm unsure if I need to also put another hole for the smaller stud that the spring behind the tensioner catches on (this is how it seems to work in its original spot). Or do you not use the spring behind it and just torque it down? Thanks in advance, I did a search but couldn't find anything related and it doesn't mention it in the rb30det sau guide.
    • Hi All,  just thought I would provide an update as I know smooth (Matt) was on this forum from 2003.    my brother Matthew passed away end of may 2024 at the age of 41 from liver failure. I am not sure how many of his original team krazy friends are still on here or active but thought it reasonable to let the forum know.    if you have any photos or pictures it would be great if you could share them.    it took me a while to work out he was active on here.    thanks so much
