Yeah I could do that, but at the same time this car will keep going forever after a bit of TLC, so I might as well do it right the first time.

That's so unlike me, I'm always about the quick fix, just get it good enough.... what the f**k's going on!!

too much laser love

Mangs. Just checking in from an Irish pub with free wi fi in Dubrovnik.

Cars of interest spotted in Europe so far:

one 180sx in Rome, but I think it may have been it's American cousin the 240sx.

And one four door 35 with infinity badges.

And lots of vw's

not when it comes to Fords ;)

Fords are awesome ;)

I am working on it. Beers here are $2 for pints.

Almost as good as hong kong, $5 for a four pack, sold at 7eleven and petrol stations

having fun bigfella?

Having fun, but as for hot beer wenches, can't quite give them the attention they deserve as my wife is with me at almost all times.

But as a general rule, Croatia seems to be filled with stunners.

Not like Serbia.....

lol - I knew something had been missing on this forum for a while. The good ol' serbia bashing :)

Dan_B:

I got this message from a dude on Boostcruising about a VG30DETT:

Hey mate i found out about the motor for you, it comes with everthing, turbo's ect. except no wiring harnes. It has dropped pressuse from one of the cyclinders but he dosen't know which one???? Apart from that he said it runs great. He said the price is $600 Neg.

What do you think?

Agree on the no. f**k the VG. Oh and as I said to John last night. f**k YOU GUYS. Burn Notice is awesome and I ended up going to bed at 2am last night because I couldnt stop watching them. Now I've got to stay in work and do my uni assignment because I know if I go home I'll never get anything done lol.

But Dan might know how to work some VG magic

Well, I question old mate's diagnostic technique.

He says:

It has dropped pressuse from one of the cyclinders but he dosen't know which one????

now by 'dropped pressure' I would assume that means no compression? But how he tells it has no compression in 1 cylinder without testing them I don't know, and if he'd tested them he'd know which one it is. If its actually got no compression on 1 cylinder, forget it, its f**ked.

IF he actually means "not firing" on 1 cylinder then it could be something simple causing no fuel or spark to that cylinder, in which case it would probably be a very easy fix.

I would suggest, if you have any intention on buying it, do a compression test on it first and if the cylinders aren't all in spec and fairly even, then stay far FAR away, it's not worth the hassle.

If you can get the VG for like $400 I'd say go for it, if a cylinder is f**ked rebuild it yourself :D

The laser's now rolling on some sweet nolathane bushes in the front ;) oh yeahhhh

    • Yeah. "New pump" does not have to mean "massive pump".
    • Well, can you still get an OEM pump, and by the time you're buying a Nismo/N1 etc, just buy another aftermarket pump. It's better to have the pump able to flow more if its needed, than for your pressure to drop off. At any point in time, you're replacing the oil pump in a rebuild. Aftermarket pumps are likely going to be a better economical choice, and they don't have any negatives, even if they can flow more.   Also, when you're saying "replace the pump gears" are you meaning leave a 25+ year old housing in the engine with unknown wear, and just put new gears in? As that sounds silly to me, especially if you do have that minute amount of wear, that means your new pump gears now have a little bit more clearance beside them, which means, whelp, you may not get to build a lot of oil pressure or make a lot of flow.
    • Right, but if you replace the pump gears + put a spline or sine drive gear on the crank on a Nismo/OEM/N1/etc pump at that point do you really still want more flow/oil pressure? Let's say this is a the aforementioned "keep it simple" build, no more than ~400 kW at the crank.
    • Strength. And on the early RB26, full engagement of the pump drive.
    • I really don't understand the point of aftermarket oil pumps if your particular engine doesn't need more oil pressure. As far as I can make sense of it the problem seems to be cavitation from sucking air, maybe the pump gear design with how it interfaces with the OEM crank, and maybe the backing plate screws wanting to loosen themselves. How does flowing more oil fix these issues?
