They don't seem to like design/tech advice from non engineers. I suggested they look at getting a Wolf system this year for the ECU instead of forking out mega bucks for a Motec M800 with all of the options unlocked. Didn't go down to well.

My opinion in something like this would be to look at the top teams around the world and see what they are doing and a lot of the top teams, including the winner for the last three years running in Australia, are running Goodyears. Know why? Goodyear have spent time and money developing slicks SPECIFICALLY for Formula SAE competition world wide. Yet for some reason we are running Hoosiers. But what would I know, I'm just a business student :P

I'm going to be hitting Goodyear up for sponsorship for the team as one of my first projects, followed closely by targeting one of the big fuel/lubricant companies. Need to develop a solid marketing plan first and try figure out if I am allowed to sell naming rights for the team/car as part of a sponsorship package. I have a modest goal for my two year stint with the team, I want to double their operating budget. They are currently receiving almost no external support and managed to place 15th from 48 teams in one of the most competitive comp's in the world for this category last year. I'm super keen to see what they can do with more coin/product/services behind them.

Same issue over at QUT.

They're running hoosiers, goodyear is my recommendation, but we have new plans from scratch for the car which might be expensive.

So hopefully enough to get a good set of the goodies.

Yer the goodyears are good if you can get the coin, but for the money i know kumho makes tyres in around that size for formula ford/ F3 and anything really is better then the floppy hoosier. They are a drag tyre company, how many big race teams use them on circuit????? Agree with the choice of ECU too, the M800 is an expensive thing, i can name other ECU's that will do the same job for less coin. If you can get more money for the team you might be able to pull some leverage around the place boz.

Trying to find prices for the Goodyears is proving a little tough. Found one US distributor that sells them for $208 a tyre but no local distributors. Time to get on the phones I think.

I love it when people use motec because race car...when really these days there isnt much that they do that the other top of the range ecus cant do.

$50 per dick? I could get a lot of dicks put on the car for enough money.

Sounds to me like thereis a lot of dicks already working on the car.

It just comes down to lazy council workers, they do a half arsed job of it most of the time anyway, they did a street in toowong, 2 weeks later its all cracked up and potholed.
