Isola you putting a remote start alarm system on your car ? If so, do you know where the relay is so that the car doesn't start in gear ?

*end serious note back to reality*

oh look a duck.

It's the reverse switch that is faulty apparently... telling me the gearbox has to be dropped to replace it (bs)

Unless theres something retarded about GT-R boxes (possible), that is complete BS. It's easy to replace. See if you can find a replacement switch and we'll do it when we do the AWD fluid while the car is up on stands.

The brake light problem seems to be intermittent. Sometimes all four light up and the spoiler, sometimes the two centers lights up plus the spoiler, and sometimes just the two centers on their own.

Intermittant faults are always fun. Might have to take it to a more competant auto elec for that one :(

The alarm doesn't go off when the boot/bonnet/or doors are opened (when armed)

This should be pretty easy to fix, assuming he has installed the bonnet switch. Do you know if it immobilises?

- and the turbo timer doesn't work one out of every ten times the car is turned off (usually when I really WANT it to turn on too).

I'd say this isn't a wiring fault, and might be something you just have to live with. The way turbo timers work, it detects the voltage drop to 0V on the IGN line, then picks it back up to 12V, HOPEFULLY before the engine stops running. Once every now and again (particurly with air con on) my engine slows down too much and fails to stay running when the turbo timer kicks in. You can see it has kicked in on the display but, and it keeps all the ignition lights on and sh*t, the engine just stalls. I imagine that a built in turbo timer in an alarm possibly has a slower switchover, making it more likely for the car to stall in this time. Do all your ignition lights and stuff come on? Does your fan keep running?

and yeah, we'll have to investigate further with the head unit, and see if we can work out what's what.

Yep, sounds like fun :D I hate car audio :)

First thing to try will be cutting that handbrake switch wire.

Make sure to get me to look at it BEFORE i start drinking :)

and get those 6x9s mounted before you come round :D

oh, and on the way home the steering seemed to lose power. so that's probably the pump. GRRRRR!

Could just be low on fluid/old fluid

His isn't remote start, but such a relay would not be part of a manual car (they can start in gear) so it would have to be added when you install the alarm. Thus, it could be anywhere. Why do you ask, 2 dogs?

2 dogs ? Where ?

My relay seems to have died as I have a remote start on my car :D. Just wondered if it might be in a specific place.

Just like the gingers

We will rule the world one day.

LOL! No death is horrible enough for them

@Isola: Get your car back yet buddy?

:D

Going to go and pick it up shortly.

Really wish the idiots had have called me BEFORE they did any work though. Charging me $385 in labour because it took so long to try and track down a new unit for the fan... which they couldn't find, and wound up getting some holden unit, and that's another $80. If they had have just ASKED me, I would have said 'don't worry about it' bought one from the classifieds or wherever, and plugged it in myself. The fan wasn't even that much of an issue ffs.

Then they tell me a mechanic needs to do the reverse light. That my brake lights work fine (two witnesses say otherwise, as well as me braking outside a window at home every day) and that they've done nothing with the head unit or the alarm.

Not impressed. at all. Really pissed off would probably be a more appropriate description.

So don't anybody ever bother using Chermside Auto Electrical in Boothy Street at Kedron :)

Sounds like a piss poor effort. I wouldn't be giving them any money for that shit. You pay for them to work on the car not chase around finding parts. Complete and utter bullshit.

Damn, thats Terrible!

What do they reckon is wrong with the reverse lights? I can't see any reason a mechanic would have to look at it, its ALL wiring except for the reverse switch, which is a switch on the side of the gearbox that takes 2 minutes to replace. Sounds like they just CBF.

What is wrong with the brake lights exactly?

As for the alarm, I'd be figuring out exactly what it does and doesn't do, and get whoever installed it for you to fix it for free.

Head unit... yeah, I guess we'll have to look at that further

+1

Yea... Thats bs. I'm totally against people doing something without letting the owner know about it and then charging them for it. Its like "hey, your motor's f**ked and we swapped it with another 1 we have. That'll be 5 grand please." BS!

Need to find out if all those features have actually been wired up. I know when Dad and I installed the alarm n immobiliser on Terri's old car all we hooked up was the immobiliser and alarm for when the doors are opened. Didn't bother with the boot or bonnet. Could be the case here.

You don't usually make assumptions....

You know what happens when you make an assumption? You make an ass out of u and umption.

Intermittent fault is probably dodgey wiring somewhere. I'd start at the back rip the lights off and have a look around in there. If there is any dodgey shit cut it out and solder in some new stuff. You will end up paying through the ass for an auto elec to find shit like that because they know they can slack off n just blame it on the fact that the problem could be anywhere.

+1 on check/change powersteering fluid.

Got rejected on that unit that I applied for. Epic gayness they didn't even bother calling my references. Going to have a look at another one at 3 today and another at 4 tomorrow. Hopefully I find something soon. I might have to start looking at share houses down here which I don't really want :S
