Hey All,

Just a quick query as I want to make sure I'm treating the M35 with utmost care without going overboard and splashing too much cash on servicing.

According to my warranty rules I'm only required to have the vehicle serviced every 10, 000km's.

I was originally planning to have the vehicle serviced 2600 km's AFTER I picked it up from the importer, they had it serviced only a few km's before I brought it.

This did not occur due to money and the fact I thought it may have been a bit of overkill doing it so soon.

Anyway, I'm going to get it serviced now when it reaches 60,000km's (which will be around 7500km's after the importer had it serviced).

Does this seem wise or would it be risky? I don't mind getting a minor service every 5000 km's after this 60,000km service.

Oh btw, the service I will be getting done with be a General Service by Unique Auto Sports so it will be pretty thorough plus I'll be opting for new spark plugs (maybe, depending on what will be gained) and a new high flow performance air filter etc.

Any feedback on your experiences with servicing intervals for M35 would be greatly appreciated.

7500kms should be fine.

I generally do a service (Oil & filter change, check & top up all other fluids) every 10,000kms (transmission is "service free" but I check the fluid level anyway).

My Stag is running beautifully and is coming up to the big 150!

I do make sure to use Motul 300v oil and a good filter.

If Unique are doing the service, make sure they are using a high quality SYNTHETIC oil... Do not bother with a mineral oil or a synthetic/mineral blend unless you want to service every 5000kms.

I thought I would be alright but I thought being a turbo motor it may have been desirable/essential to do it every 5000km.

I will be having it cared for quiet well every 10,000 km, so I will see how that goes.

It would be desirable/essential if you are using a mineral or mineral based oil.

10,000kms is fine to change for a high quality Synthetic...

I used to change every 5,000kms and have only ever once used anything other than Synthetic oil (Motul Turbolight 4100 - semi-synthetic).

I found that;

1. It was just too damn expensive

2. It was not necessary with a good oil

Figured I could be top protection for my engine if I serviced every 10k with Motul 300v and it worked out about the same $$$ wise since I do it myself (no labor charge or markup)

I agree that 7500 is a good interval.

That is what I do on mine and as Cameron said it only needs, oil, oil filter, and check other fluids.

I am going to do my spark plugs at 78'000 k's and I will let you know if it makes any difference to economy or the feel of the power.

PS. looks like my exhaust will be a local job as sourcing one from Japan (at a reasonable cost) has not worked. Time to start planning what it will be.

My main concern is that the importer has put cr*p oil in but the warranty (from an external company) states 10,000 service interval so if something does happen with 7500km I will be hunting both of them down to get it sorted.

So far though it's running great and no undesirable noises from under the bonnet, it's been reving quiet nicely and goes well.

Andy - you going for a cat back or a complete exhaust solution? My car was delivered with a Nismo cat back with sound controller (via switch, sports & silent (not much different between either mode imho). Awesome exhaust though, but I think they are worth quiet a bit of coinage. Let us have the juicy details especially if you are going for extractors, high flow cat etc.

mmmm, good question. I want it to stay reasonably quiet. So I have to talk to a couple of exhaust companies and see what they offer and at what price.

Logic says I should get it done from the turbo with a new dump and need to make it flow better as I understand the restrictions make the turbo hot and the turbo needs as much cooling as possible. But budget may have a telling result on what I can do.

If you are looking under 2k, may I suggest the dump & front pipe as per the NRVOUS thread.

Exhaust? You could either go Kakimoto (88dB, 80mm and around $1100 delivered) or the HKS Demoda which is less (~$950 delivered but only a 60.5mm pipe)

Or if you wanted to go even cheaper, just get the Kakimoto de-cat front pipe (80mm) and leave the dump & pre-cat.

It is what I have and let me tell you, it really opens up the turbo & sounds GREAT!

Fujitsubo Legalis would push you over 2k with the current exchange rate.

I was quoted about $900 for a custom mandrel bent exhaust. I will probably go this way.

Cool, I was quoted similar from my local exhaust shop when I was looking.

He wanted to silence it by putting steel wool in the muffler :D

Me thinks you are right about that stuffing the free flowing....... :D

The guy I spoke to said it is just about having the right volume muffler. If they have too much volume they do not fill completly and then get that booming sound.

Forgot to mention.

5L of oil for the M35.

Just did a minor service on my mates M35 yesterday.

Run engine cleaner through, drained oil, changed oil filter, put in 5L of 300v Chrono, he took it for a run (loved it!), washed both M35's.

Checked his oil level last night (cold engine) which was exactly on the full line.

As an aside, for those using genuine Nissan filters... have you found that the oil filter gets extremely hot?

I found it was MUCH hotter than Amsoil, K&N or Ryco filters.

yeh I found that the oil filter gets a little hotter with the standard oil filter....might go and get a K&N....there's not much price difference.

maybe there is less metal in the unit, maybe they make space for more filter material, which id prefer over a 'cooler' filter :D

hot is hot when youre taking it off anyway hahah

which reminds me, time for me to do an oil change. thanks for letting us know it takes 5L! i was going to ask that question

+1 on using an engine oil flush before a change. ive always used the nulon variety on all my cars, never had a problem.....

Sorry to bring this topic back from the dead, but I was just thinking and thought I would revive it!

This time the question is NOT frequency, but more where should I take it?

I was and probably would get my first service (60,000km's) done by Unique Auto Sports.

But I'm also curious about whether or not any of you M35'ers have had services done by Hornsby Nissan, they seem to have a real good reputation so I'm tossing up whether to talk to them and see if they would service it.

Might get my first one (since I've had the car) done by Unique and then get the one after (65,000 or 70,000 havn't decided) done by Hornsby Nissan.

Any input greatly appreciated, I want to make sure it is looked after by people who know what they are doing and what parts are correct etc :D

I had my Cam angle sensor replaced and oil change done by them and they were very helpful and cost was reasonable.

I think you can do many of the in between servicing at more local places but it is a good idea to get Nissan to service it every 30k or so so they can check the computer.
