So how would you compare a 250-260rwkw R34 vs a 200rwkw one with the stock turbo?? MUCH faster? Or not that much in it really? Compare as in reasonable day to day driving with a quick burst here n there, motorways etc

Spot on Rolls that's part of why I went the G3 so that 280kw can be reached if it doesn't quite make the 300 planned kW. I'm OK with trading some daily driving lag and transient response for more chance of reaching the power goal.

Although I've had an rb25 with a 500hp turbo before and didn't think it was too bad so I'll be interested to see how it goes.

you've got an ATR43G3?

i had hypergear highflow my turbo and great results from it i got 210rwkw at 10psi and he said i can boost my turbo to 18 max,i can provide dyno sheets to prove this just gotta look through my photos on computer but i might tune my car to 15psi wonder what rwkw i will get then :D

My turbo makes the power, it's just lacking the mid-range as I don't have VCT working.

To be honest it's not that bad on the street, even as laggy as it is. But then I track my car, so I'm content to run around off-boost on the street. You get used to it and learn how to drive it on the street. It's not hard to get the revs up and get it on boost when needed.

Stao is in the process of sending it now.

@hanaldo I agree. A laggier car can still be usable for certain driving styles, this is why I don't think using motor only for driving around town is the worst thing.

Do you know how big of a difference to expect from setting up your VCT?

If you overlay my graph with Stao's, I'm down about 30kw through the midrange. I haven't seen anyone make the same power as Stao apart from Abe, so I'm expecting about 15-20kw. Biggest thing is response though, if I can find my missing 500-600rpm of response then the turbo will be ALOT better to drive.

I don't know how optimistic I am of doing it with the NIStune though. Will find out, but I may have to swap to VIPEC to get the full potential of the turbo.

Copied from the turbo upgrade thread because I'm lazy :P

'98 R34 GT with RB25DET Neo.

660cc Power Enterprise injectors.

Walbro 550hp fuel pump.

600x300x100 FMIC.

Custom 3" turbo-back exhaust.

Custom 3" stainless steel intake.

Greddy Profec B-Spec II.

NIStune.

Z32 AFM.

Hypergear ATR43 FNT G3.

Turbosmart Compgate 40 external wastegate with two 7psi springs.

Tuned to run at 18psi, so still has a bit more in it.

Yep, on my only [daily] car. Maybe a couple track days a year.

Haha, you are the other voice in my head telling me not to do it. Then theres the other side saying "Nahh she'll be right, a bit of lag will be alright". Its either that or go the standard 0P6 highflow - 250'ish rwkw.

If you want 250 then go for the SS1PU, its arguably better than a highflow..

The benefit to the highflow is bolting it back into place and looking close to stock. But you are considering a G3, so I doubt looking perfectly stock is a big issue for you.

Consider this: if you definitely want 300kw, then get a G3. If you will do every track day your local track can offer, you want a G3. If you will do 80% of your driving on normal roads you want a SS1PU. If y ou want good response, you want the SS1PU.

Put the two cars against eachother, on a short coarse OR on the street the SS1PU will probably win every time.. On a more open circuit or the strip itself the G3 will probably win - pulling away in 4th gear.

I hope that helps.

yes i have been in plety and all setups react differentt weather your running same parts on a idential engine i just reacon saying 250 kw to say 280 290 that he wants is gona so called reck its street value unless its on a track its just not true

I also disagree, the G3 compared to the SS1 makes it a completely different car. With the G3 I would have to prepare to give it some. When I was in the twistys I had to keep it on the boil so changing down gears and revving it hard while just trying to enjoy some nice roads. With the SS1, instead of being in 2nd gear revving really high I can be in 3rd with nice linear torque as I drive through the corners. But at the same time on the track you want the max revs so the G3 would be far better.

The SS1 is seriously standard turbo response. It is always right there and then has a really nice mid range.

To the other question yes 250kw does feel much faster to the std turbo 200kw.

The largest I would go for a street car would be an SS1PU or 2835 Pro S (normally 260-280kw).

Thanks Harey, and GTScot, this is the type of answer every newbie whos lookin for his first aftermarket turbo wants to hear. Not what spec turbo will do what KW and Nm in what time, 0-400m time, all the tech bull. Quote from GTScot also :

Thanks to all for the input and thoughts. Call me stupid but Im still leaning towards the G3 at the moment.

Thats cool too, its a great turbo. As long as you understand what sort of turbo it is then go for it. I just know from my own history that I was not aware what came along with the great top end power/torque.

well ill be goin the g3 but with the external gate option as it seems every man and his dog in this thread couldnt hold 20psi with internal gate, we will see what happens

I am hoping my vipec and ebc will sort that funny business out.
