im thinking of buying a plug in diagnostic scanner that will do all local shit and and all imports till current! these things arnt cheap but they do awsome stuff, graph every sensor output, data log as you drive to gain a snap shot of faults that happen irregularly and a whole heap of other gear.

whats everyones thoughts on me purchasing such a device?

im a qualified mechanic by day, just looking for abit of wkend/after hours work to do in addition to doing timing belts and the like.

nope, only factory ecus, bcms, trans computers and the like. as far as i know, any laptop with the correct softwear will access aftermarket ecu's.

Well, if you can find a working piece of software that does HICAS diags, then you'll be in business. I know Conzult 300zx version has HICAS diags that works on skylines with the OBD1 connector but it costs around $500. I have a consult cable from PLMS myself and some of the free software is nice but not as in depth as one would have hoped. I also have a hexterm program which allows me to send commands to the ECU/HICAS/Auto Trans/Aircon systems but unfortunately the registers I have as a reference don't match up.

I for one would like my HICAS fixed properly, so if you can get a tool to scan codes, I'll be your first customer ;P

ebay !!!!

"nissan consult" search ebay :)

should get it today / tomorrow

Ahh shit tangles, you're going to get a free copy of Conzult SX.... which is virtually f'n useless Im sad to say ;\

Now, If I could just find a cheap copy of Conzult ZX floating around, I'd be sorted

ill make afew calls to find out if the one im looking at will do HICAS, if so i think i will get it.

anything else that would be of any use to anyone that i should find out about?

Aside from something that does comprehensive ECU work (something the same league as conzult zx but for rb26's) would be good but tbh I think the HICAS diags are the one that is sorely lacking from around here.... You could also buy software which gets codes from the climate control unit and the automatic transmission but I'm not sure theres high demand for either (esp when you can easily get diag info from the climate control and automatics are usually taken to an auto specialist anyhow)

the one im looking at does auto trans, ABS, airbag and stuff like knock sensor output, AFM voltage, occilascope (spelling) for individual coils. it has the builtin softwear for 32-34gtr's.

i will also ask if it caters for ATESSA.

Hrm it sounds pretty comprehensive ... let me know when you've got it and I'll bring my GTR over ;D

was thinking of adding some stuff like this into Nistune for my R34 ... HICAS, trans controller etc. Just a matter of finding time to do it. Keep in mind also, with the earlier vehicles like R32 you wont get as many outputs as the later models

Hey Matt

Do you have the sheet with the registers for the early ECU's? I can send them to you if you like.

I'm not quite sure how accurate the HICAS registers up. I know the init code works fine and I can turn streaming on and off for different registers but considering it streams in multiple hex characters I really don't know how to decipher it.

I already have a cable, if you want to add any features and need it tested on a 32 gtr, I'd be keen to do that..

you mean this one?

i've never had a vested interest (ie car) until now to start mucking aruond with this stuff. but would be good to try out now i've got the 34

we have S-HICAS ECU table, AIRCON table and A/T ECU tables here. Yeah would be good to sort out the HICAS and A/T ones at least. I dont think anyone cares too much about the aircond ...

I dont have an A/T ECU here to test that stuff on since I purposely got a M/T so that might need some hunting down for an ECU which supports this (or separate A/T controller off earlier vehicle)
