If you weren't paying attention and missed the road tests & comparisons of the R32 GT-R in Wheels magazine circa 1991 then the good news is they have been re-published the second time round.

Go to www.wheelsmag.com.au

Then type skyline gt-r into the search bar.

You will get three pages of articles about the various models of GT-Rs.

Worth a read.

Thanks for that djr, I read the article where wheels does a send-off for the R32 GT-R and compares it to the Winfield race car with Jim Richards. It was a great read.

the car that ate bathurst

Yeah I know what you are saying. The hype & bullshit still grates after all these years.

There should also be one somewhere comparing the GT-R to a VN Group A Commode & also comparing the track R32 to the track VN. Not sure if I believe the numbers but what can you do?

Interesting article about R33 GTR vs HSV GTS-R vs M3. It puts the GT-R's performance into perspective doesn't it? The times it ran in the mid 90's would have been bettered only by exotics and/or porsches.

Yep, GTR's have never been cheap. In all fairness though that $200K figure is for that single car. I'm sure it would have been slightly less if Nissan had decided to import 100 or so vehicles. It would have still been very expensive though, as the R32 was $110K in the early 90's!!!

But hey it's a great article and I think it puts the R33 in particular into perspective. You read a lot of posts about them being boats an soft compared to the R32 & R34 but in reality they were still far more of a focused car than most road cars AND they were f'ing quick back in the day.

Really enjoyable read. Thanx!

I wonder what the other 37X went for as a fire sale?

37 crumbs under the table... I wouldn't mind one of those! Value is going back up as the Channel 7 program on Collectibles will attest to.

Yeah go the R33 GT-R!! :/ I still have that Wheels mag at home! It's a great article too, they basically said the GTR wins it hands-down performance wise but could be a bit too raw for a long term prospect - and the M3 is better suited for that. I love the M3 as well but the GT-R (especially R33 with its longer wheelbase) is still a perfect daily drive that can fit all the shopping, your golf bats and two passengers comfortably in the back seat while going from 0-100 in 5 seconds flat. I've owned mine for nearly 4 years, hardly a short term affair.

It would be great to own an Aussie delivered one, can't believe they struggled to sell the last third of the 100. I still remember being 9 years old and lusting after a Tamiya model R32 GT-R.

^^So what happened?

Does Nissan still have the last 3rd of unsold AUS Delivered R32 GTR's?

Maybe they are stuck collecting dust in some grandpa's shed on a farm somewhere...? :/

Seriously though I assume they were all eventually sold; I found this FS post from a while back. $55K...

That GTR was in the last issue of Unique Cars.

WOW!

Amazing! It's kept in such a ridiculously MINT Condition.

Spotless, so clean you could eat off it... No I'm not going to do that haha!!

I see its stored on 4 metal stands and a jack at the back, I'm guessing to keep the tyres from getting flat spots...

Again, WOW!

Heh - my old man picked me up a Tamiya model r32 GTR at a garage sale earlier in the year for $5. It had been opened but not assembled at all. Even at 25 y.o I was absolutely stoked! :D It took f*kin ages to put together, very detailed and looks just like my real one!

Any pics?

I got 2 myself both in black.

    • Foreign debris, physical shock, boost leak, could be anything honestly. The danger in taking all the timing out of a tune/hitting the R&R corner is that even if the engine doesn't detonate your turbo is taking a lot of abuse from high EGT. Also, even if nothing goes wrong it is a journal bearing that is spinning at 100k RPM on boost. Eventually it goes through enough cold start/pressure cycles to wear it out.
    • I kinda accidentally saw this, and was interested, but It actually seems to replaces the whole center computer, using the existing screen and buttons. AND it may only be for a G37 and not compatible with a Japanese 370. So its not for me, but someone else may be interested to look into it. Its about $680USD. If I am understanding it right, it basically replaces/installs and android pc that integrates with the existing screen. But I could be wrong. https://gromaudio.com/vline/ The video I first saw was the following, with very little and unclear details.     Even if your not interested in the system, the video on their site was pretty comforting in showing how simple the whole centre comes out
    • hfygrte52 what side you looking for? Do you care what color car it's off? Found a white LH side on here: https://skylinespares.com.au/product/nissan-skyline-r33-coupe-rear-tail-light/   Aussie parts place but will ship to USA. Maybe get it before there's a tarrif on 25yo shit box parts
    • I鈥檓 with Shannon鈥檚 for all 5 of our cars. Agreed values seem fair, premium price is okay. ($210 ish a month, all comprehensive).  Have claimed once with them for a not at fault claim with another car where my car had no damage. Was one call after the incident and an email after. Deemed not at fault so premium didn鈥檛 go up either.    I have called up and spoken with people who are not familiar with certain cars and didn鈥檛 agree with me on value or let their personal vehicle preferences effect the call. But called back later and got someone else who was more agreeable.
