hey guys, im looking at buying a new ecu and turbo, first question I have is, is there anything else I need to look at upgrading or adding if im upgrading the turbo, second question is, what sort of ecu is recommended around these parts? Im not looking at going all out spending a fortune on the ecu, i just want something thats good value for money, its for a street car, so i would be looking at the lower end of the market, but also something that does a good job, does anyone have any recomendations? cheers

Where to start???

As far as the ECU is concerned, there are many types out there that do an excellent job. If you have a tuner in mind, go and speak to him to see which system he advises as some are more proficient in a particular brand and he may also tell you which is best for the turbo you settle on.

If you want good results, you will be paying for a decent ECU. If you want to go cheap, get your current ECU chipped or score yourself a piggy-back, like a Greddy e-Manage, SAFC or similar item.

If you're upgrading the turbo, I would advise at least an exhaust, intake, fuel pump, and FMIC.

Have a look here, it may help also:

Have you even looked at this website before?

I find it pretty hard to believe that there is no information on the following for an R33 GTSt...

1. Picking a garret turbo

2. Picking an ECU

Start with the turbo upgrade section that will give you an idea about what works well.

Really it comes down to what your tuner wants - talk to him.

Power FC, cheap and easy. Most guys have them

WOLF 3D V500 is better ECU, doesn't need z32 AFM's

Haltech is awesome

Motec is awesome

Microtec is ok

when you look at what the wolf can do, i'd say it's awesome. better then haltech and motec doesn't have much on it. but for the price i wouldn't consider motec unless your rolling in dosh

im looking at spending around 3k, for turbo, ecu. and if i need injetors, fuel pump etc, that needs to be factored into the 3k, i currently have a, fmic, pod, 3inch turbo back.

Good luck with that unless your going to buy my EMU after I get a Vipec.

You can do it for 3 grand, but you're going to end up with cheap Chinese knock off crap that I wouldn't even put on a lawnmower.

Save your bucks for a while man and get the good stuff.

You get what you pay for and the last thing you want to do is trash your engine and end up spending twice the amount that you skimped for repairs.

    • I believe there was a similar one posted by @duggyphresh. They were re-routing their battery positive cable in the way I am also trying to achieve. Sorry, I’m new to this forum, so was a bit late to the party by a few months and so reignited the old thread, as I wanted to know how they got on with doing it.
    • Wasn't there a thread on this very subject just a few weeks ago?
    • Hi all! Looking to relocate the battery to the trunk of an R34 GTT. I want to do it using as many stock GTR components as I can (including the harness protectors from the 34 GTR that run underneath along the chassis to the engine bay). So far I’ve purchased the battery tray from a 33 GTR, as the captive weld nuts are already there just asking to be used. There is also the slight issue of now having to relocate the ABS/TC/Fuel Pump Control ECU, which in GTT’s sits right above where the battery will then sit on the tray. Has anyone already achieved this, and if you have any pics that you wouldn’t mind sharing? It would be great to see how others have done it and where you put them, as there are countless holes in the parcel shelf panel to potentially use. Just trying to get some ideas bounced around, and to help uncover any potential problems I may encounter by  my choice of location. TIA for any help!
    • Brand was ard.   I also threw a brand new battery at it and beefed up the wire from the alternator to battery and added an extra earthing point from the battery
