Hi guys

Well im getting married in Japan in May this year.

My partner is Japanese and she has already a 5 year old daughter so i am adopting her as a step father, also....

Just wanted to get some advice from those of you who might know about this.

I want to know if i get married in Japan with marrage certificate etc etc will it be recognised legally back here in Queensland?

Reason why i ask is early next year we are looking at relocating to Goldcoast.

Also my partner is in the early stages of pregnancy and some advice on newborn child visa's or dual nationality or whatever you guys can give me would be great.

Ive scanned through the Aus government pages on immigration but i just want some real facts from those of you in the know.

Any knowledge that you may enlighten me with would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance

I could answer those questions, but this a car forum so what i'll do instead is give you some good advice.

Contact the Australian embassy in Japan, they will give you all the information and documentation you will need.

You're going to have to contact them regardless of what advice you get.

you need to get papers signed in australia too.

agree with madbung, contact the embassy. however if your contacting the tokyo embassy make sure you speak to an Australian person. was given the run around 4 times when it came to visa questions similar to yours. In the end I demanded to speak to an Australian person (even though I was told no-one was available), and all my questions were answered straight up.

Hey,

I don't know about the first part of your Question, but for the second part I have had some experience a few years ago. I was born in Australia but my parents are/were Japanese. I was allowed dual nationality from Australia, but not with the Japanese government and advised me to pick Japanese or Australia by 18. This may have changed, so I would double check to be sure.

1. DONT DO IT !!!!

2. BEEN THERE DONE THAT (STILL PAYING THE PRICE)

I am from QLD also I got married in Japan (Nagano) to a Japanese woman in 2005 (two boys, 3 year old and 1 year old)

All you have to do is go to the embassy (might be available in AU from giv before u go? ask DFAT) and get a document (forgot the official name) which shows you are legally eligable to marry (ie your not married in AU) the embassy when we did it were a pain in the ass to deal with, there are window through out the week you have to apply for this document. my wife went there outside the window and demanded it, would leave with out it.

After you get it, take it to the local Japanese government office where your wife is registered/domiciled, fill out the paperwork, show family tree (Koseki tohon) sign the document and you are married. I took my father in law along also, having an old Japanese man in Japan to do your bidding helps (damn male dominant seniority based country)

If your daughter is a dual national, at the age of 20 she is required to pick one nationality over the other, she has 2 years to decide, ie they want the final decision by 22. However they almost never enforce this rule (there was talk in JP gov that they were thinking of changing the rule, by the time your daughter is 20 might not exist anymore) if she wanted to join the police, army, wanted to run for politicial office or was famous/prominent then she may be forced, but if she is an average person on the street they dont enforce this rule. If she goes to JP dont show them your AU passport and there should be no dramas, AU government isnt goint to be asked by Japanese gov if she has cancelled her AU citizenship or not...

Cefilo,

The days have passed, and you're now married.

Did you have a modern Japanese wedding or at the Shrine? When I was married there 3 years ago, I wanted the Shrine, but they could not dress me in kimono long enough, and I didn't understand enough of the religious vows so I thought it would be phony of me.

Are you still living in Japan?

Hi guys, got back from Japan just this week, had a awesome time while i was over there.

Yes R sanyon i am now married, we had a traditional marriage in a small garden at the bottom of Mt Fuji, i was wearing a hakama and the missus was dressed in a white kimono.

Best thing about that place was the free beer, top ups as much as you want hahaha........ good times good times.

Was really nervous about meeting the olds but they turned out to be the friendliest people i have met, my father in law was always trying to get me drunk and mother in law is one hell of a cook.

The missus is still over there at the moment as we plan to have the birth of our baby in Japan.

Apart from all the wedding stuff i went to see D1 in Odaiba, it was raining most of the day but we all had a ball.

Its really amazing to see all the cars in real life and just the sound and atmosphere is something you all should experience.

Saw heaps of VIP/Lowriders/Kei/Wagons/Drift street cars and Bosozoku as we were staying out in the sticks at Fujikawaguchiko.

went to Upgarage near Kofu, saw many car yards driving through Sagamihara and Machida, a few cruises around Yokohama on saturday night.

One thing that i really love over there were the trucks with there crazy chrome everything hahaha there so well presented.

Oh and cant forget the family resturants.... there open always and the food is OISHIII, and the shop called Donkey, those of u living there will know it.

When i make all my pics a lil smaller ill upload some for you all.

Going back in December for a long period and hopefully if i can looking for work....not too sure about my chances but ill give it a try.

But yea had the best time of my life.....smokes and beer are sooo cheap and easily accessable which is a major thumbs up from me haha.

    • As someone who has been playing with turbo things for some time now, be prepared for this to not be the first time feeling this way    I'm busy as atm, but if no one else covers the things I'm realising are worth mentioning to you then I will when I have a chance as it seems like I overestimated your knowledge on how turbos and wastegates work.  Otherwise I recommend having a look around how wastegates and boost control work, really anything on understanding the general mechanism of boost control as it will help you find the answers to the questions you're looking for.  Your initial question jumps some fundamentals.
    • I don't understand anything anymore.
    • so this is an anomaly??? I thought it was a voluntary increase
    • we can only guess exactly what happened from our keyboards, but to me it looks like they were targeting 27 but the wastegate was too small or poorly controlled and the boost crept up, that is quite common
    • Good points!  Took those for granted - though I *did* actually give an example of winding boost up more than it had been before where I wasn't actually specifically looking for more peak power.  The Toyota Starlet dyno plot that I shared and mentioned showed an overlay from the previous tune it had and the one I'd redone, I left the boost targetting the same as the old tune but then after peak power I ramped boost up by a good 5psi or so over what the old tune had at the same rpm. The reason I felt comfortable with this (though the owner of the car had a "are you sure?" moment when I suggested it) is that the setup wasn't turbo limited, it was largely head sealing limited and the owner was a bit concerned as for the last few seasons he'd had issues with head lifting - sometimes not completing an event without having some headgasket issue, so he didn't want to run any more boost than it was. The reasons I was ok with raising the boost a good 5+psi MORE than that was that I left it where it was in the middle, and only increased it where VE (and therefore cylinder pressure vs psi) were dropping hard and I didn't stop the torque from dropping, just reduced the drop.  Well, there is that and the fact that the previous tuner had it overtimed by near 7degrees at peak torque - but that's another story haha.    I didn't really go into detail about that "turning it up more" thing but now you've mentioned the "not detuning", sometimes the boost *can* be turned up higher than you'd expect if the setup allows for it and you do it smartly.  I've tuned things to run 30psi on BP98 "safely" that a few years ago (or still?) people would cry that it was a stupid idea - but given they were well intercooled, low EMAP turbos and only doing that kind of boost where VE is dropping etc I was pretty confident it wasn't as cowboy as it sounded at face value and we never ended up with issues as a result of it.
