hey guys.... yeah that's right... another rookie thinking about his Skyline bought 2 days ago.... and wondering what to do next...

so, i got myself a 1996 GTST r33.... RB25DET engine.... pretty stock and tip-top... the way i like it... cuz i want to build the machine myself.... and learn along the way....

so 'guruz' help me out.. should i start straight with the engine or start with priming the beast....

spending??? right now 3k....

any suggestions much appreciated.... and also... any recommendations for RB mechanics.

well.. i have the h&k pod filters (when bought), just installed the 3" apexi exhaust .. now the skyline talks... i dont know what DUMP pipe really means.... i have to find a mechanic soon to know about the parts of the car..... after scanning the threads, i read some good thing about BEN in racepace motorsport.... what you think?? i am also in search of alloy wheels...... what i have is antique... i gotta change this man... what ya think of this got for $8500.

I can only tell you Arun, about workshops here in Sydney I'm afraid.

I'm glad that there's less restriction with your Apexi 3" piping. The last restrictions are further foreward ie Cat Converter and front/dump pipe.

I can't seem to magnify your pic but you'd be happy with the colour. Dirt doesn't show on that!

Wheels? R33 GTsTs look good with TE37, GT-C all with dish. The bare rim may weigh in at only 8.5Kg

If you prefer even thinner spokes but still strong, you might consider ADVAN RG or RE30

See what appeals to you and wait patiently in the F/S column and then POUNCE!

And one more thing...

HKS Piping can look terrific but HKS Pods came out quite poor for both i) flow rate and ii) filtering efficiency.

And they are a wet filter; which means that if you re-oil them DO NOT OVERSPRAY lest it stuff up an AFM.

Alternatively, you can take out the sponges and buy SIMOTA dry sponges that fit nicely into the HKS Pod.

You can buy these from Just Jap etc. Just replace the sponges every 20,000Km. (or 10,000Km if you drive thru' smog)

have a quick question. see, if i take the car to a tuning shop.. and say, i need a fmic. you think they will have the stock(new) of if i need it secon hand what are the options... the reason i am asking is... i spend most of the time reading threads, i see price difference for same product. or if i get the parts myself will it be cheaper????

I'd consider how old (ie No. of Kms) the used one would be... then look at price.

Cheapest = SAU F/S Forum

Next Cheapest = 2nd hand from established dealers eg. Just Jap, Toy Shop etc

Next Cheapest = Fabrication

Most Expensive = New from importer eg Powerplay etc

you mentioned about 3'HIFLO rite.. i am not sure if i have the full exhaust or not.. but i have a muffler ... and what is cat back??? and what is exhaust system ( does it include the muffler)..

i know this will be an annoying question.... but i am just pumped...

Hi Arun,

The next biggest restriction you have is your catalytic converter ie 'Cat'. So that means that Hi-Flow Cats have much less restriction.

And then there are Cats and there are Cats.

I would rate Cats from Japan (such as HKS etc) as being superior in quality & longevity over ones from China (such as X-Force)

The internals can be made of superior/inferior cores with different 'cfm' ratings

I'd buy quality Jap stuff. But on a hoist, you can check if yours is the OEM or an aftermarket one already.

After the Cat has been changed, the next biggest restriction is your front pipe.

These above will help your car breathe better and your ECU probably won't need to be re-calibrated at this point.

Further 'Searching' will reveal more mods along the way ie. ECU, FMIC, Turbos, Cams. Then you need to re-assess your budget versus the prospect of overcapitalisation.
