Got a Question about insurance

Hi ALL!

I have a question that some of you may be able to answer stragiht off.

I will be straight to the point.

Person under 25, very high premiums for comprehensive insurance.

Parents are like 50y.o. with 60% no claim bonus.

Premiums for parents drop to $1200 instead of $3000-$4000

Parents take out policy.

Young person not listed as a dialy driver. (if he/she was listed, there no point telling the parents to take out policy in the first place!)

Car gets stolen after it was driven to the shop or where ever BY the young person. Is the car covered?

That's my question, not asking about what if its in an accident, purely about car theft.

Thank you to those that can help!

Hmm i was thinking about this awhile ago,

Logically, when someone takes out Full Comprehensive insurance on their car, it doesnt matter who or what damages it.. if the excess is payed.. the car is fixed

So in theory,

Insure under parents, you drive, if you crash/damage, give parents the money for excess.. they pay and car is fixed

only thing is, registration information wont match the insurance information for owner/driver etc

Comprehensive has lots of loop holes but what ive said above sound too good to be true.

I drive my dads VT alot and he said if anything happens then im paying for it... didnt say i cant drive cos he wont be covered, and he knows his insurance,

Any first hand expierences people?

Yeah well theft is basically the same.. u need to make a claim

Hmm, ide love to find out the truth about this

because the terms of Full Comprehensive is that the client's car is covered no matter what, that what they pay for, generally it doesnt matter whos driving, if the person who is paying for insurance's car is damages etc then its covered..

besides where the law is broken etc IE drink driving.. or person driving unlicenced

im under the impression that if your not listed and you take it out no matter what happens the car wont be covered as the driver isnt on the policy. But my question is whos going to prove that you were driving it before it was stolen! ... anyways thats my 2 cents

*some* insurance companies cover unlisted drivers, as long as they only drive the car XX times a year... i think :(

soooo...what i mean is, it might be covered...BUT they might do an investigation (with neighbours etc) to make sure you only drove it XX times a year, and if they find out you drove it a lot more than that, they might not pay out...whether it was theft, a prang, whatever..

I'd have a read of your parents policy booklet :(

if you're the registered owner of the car & your parents hold the insurance policy, you are'nt covered, but if the car is registered under your parents name no probs, even if your not listed.

AAMI require occasional drivers to be listed, for the pulsar. No effect on premiums but obviously occasional driver has a limit to how often you can drive it.

If you were driving and it was damaged, the insurance company could definitely knock it back. If your parents claim for theft damage and say they parked it at the shops and it was broken into it might be ok.

knore, when you claim on insurance the company asks how the car was damaged. If your parents say they crashed it, they get a blot on their driving record for 5 years. If they say you crashed it, the insurance co says "hahahahaa, ok bye". it's not a simple matter of dodging the system, if the insurance co finds out they'll refuse to pay the claim and that'll be that. They're a business after all, not a charity. If your suggestion works consider yourself lucky!

you are very lucky they offer 3rd party fire and theft up thre at brisneyland! JCI doesn't provide that in NSW!

Any body know if there are any other company that would offer 3rd party + theft? and would cover the cost of the car? like, normally, they only cover up to a maximum of $4000 no matter what the car is worth!

    • Harness update time have had great fun and learnt so much already so far with this project. I started off making both the ignition and injector sub harnesses in the hope any mistakes i made here aren't as hard to undo and learn from as the main harness.  A cool comparison of the old harness using presumably TXL wire and the new which is using Tezel. Also opted to use DTM plugs to keep the whole setup as neat and tidy as possible and tucked the wiring under the coil bracket to try and keep it all from sticking out too much. Although the injector harness, I'm not overly happy with as I'm still using the rubber boots that are supplied with the type of plugs it just looks ugly and sticks out like a sore thumb with the white identifiers so a slight redesign may be done.   Then it was main harness time and most importantly trying to route it nice and away from the heat it will use the OEM heater hose routing which is no longer present to keep the harness up high and secure. it's amazing how much smaller this harness is able to be compared to the old one. plugged everything into the emtron and with the help of the tuner again attempted to start it up and instantly fired up and running smoothly on all 6 which was a big shock to myself. So still some routing and adjusting to be done for the final fit up and installing a knock sensor harness plug which is in the post all has gone surprisingly well.     The old harness for shits and giggles.
    • They do that at random every now and then, with almost no detectable cause. Mine has done it a couple of times (over 25 years!!). Never worked out why.
    • I don't post on here and have been lurking for some time now. Many of the topics have helped me out more times than i can count. I was racing yesterday (11/9) and blew a front right CV shaft. I have spares so I popped a new one in. A thread i read previously said to check the engine mounts if you blow a front CV. Upon inspection, the front right mount was completely separated from the upper plate. This discovery saved me time and money, because i would have blown another CV if i went back out. Just wanted to thank you guys and wish everyone luck with with their builds. (Now if we could only come up with a solution for my power steering belt flying off after hitting the rev limiter, lol)
