Well gatton comes and goes about this time every year and I have to admitt, I was a little disapointed not to see Mark and Russ there. I was hoping the would be biving the new 34 a shake down before Superlap.... Ohwell, was not to be. Brad Botcher took out the event dipping into the 34 sec mark with 1of his R32 gtr's along with Ray Vanderce (spelling?) in his Skelta, a rwd supercharged registered prototype thing. Botcher again with his other 32 GTR in the 35'sallong with another Skelta thing. At 36.1 was Danny Mischock and his amazing mk II escort bullett which I was chasing all weekend pulling in next in line at 36.6. Steve Voight had a #18 shell AU V8 Supercar which was in my class with a best of 36.8.

All in all We (Sara and I) had a good weekend. She was the fastest rwd car on true street tyres @ 41.1 and 2nd out of the girls. I won my class, 2nd rwd tin top and 6th outright.

I was having a fiddle with some footage I got from my car, 1st run sunday morning. the camera was in Sara's car the rest of the weekend for coahcing purpouses. Paid off for her too.

FYI...

I think the most impressive effort was the fact that Brad's full weight (1560kg without driver) legally registered R32 (car 131) running street legal tyres ran a 35.33sec making it the fastest ever street registered GTR to lap the Gatton track.

The unregistered one (car 135) ran a 34.068sec on factory brakes which were really letting it down. Both cars running pump United Boost98 fuel which only cost $1.17/Lt that weekend.

Both times done on cold tyres and brakes, maybe next time he'll double enter a car so the first driver can get everything nice and up to temp for when he takes it around which history has shown us is good for 1.0 - 1.5 sec off your time at this track.

There is no way on this earth would I drive any where near a cop on the street with that exhaust and expect to come away without a list of defects as long as my arm. The thing makes 660rwhp through a holinger box (sequential I think) so it dam well should be in the low 35's. My 33 gtst has less than 1/2 the power and 1/2 the number of driving wheels and only 1.3 sec behind. My brakes are also std calipers, virtuly the same as on the gtr and to be honest if his pads were going off with 4 applications..... there crap pads.

It is still a very impressive time, but put into perspective, it's a balls out pig.

660 at the treads through a 3'' system with cat , resonater and full muffler that passes a no load noise test at 5100 rpm ... yeah rite!... maybe 450 is more like it .

defect list as long as your arm ???? ..... name them !

I am sorry if my earlier post offended any one and I have explaind my response to V8 eta. Sorry if the figures qouted to me on the weekend were incorrect. I was under the impression I was takling to the owner and getting infomation first hand.

I may have been talking to a sales person or a total stranger just making stuff up.

Again my appolagies

Just to stir it up a bit.

I had a disapointing weekend hoping to get in to the Silver 37.5 group but after not being able to get adequete heat in my slicks on Sat so I swapped to kumho's new KU36 road tyre. Not even a semi and has a tread wear rating of 190 and was able to drop my time to 38.2. So happy that still in 39sec club again but could have done better.

In regards to Brad Bottcher. Was always expecting him/you to be at the pointy end of the scale with both cars. V8ETA i imagine would have a few defects flicked at it if mr plod was to pull it up (clearing them may be a diffrent story) In regards to 660-450whpit does not matter as it is all way going to be hard for my fully interior /factory paneled 1250kg + driver, 270whp 180sx to keep up just like it was with the 300whp 700kg skeltas in my class. But at the end of the day its fun trying. and we wil give it another go at marybough with all you guys including you mr smith I imagine. ( sent your entries in yet?)

And noddy well done! on the 36.6. made me try a bit harder because we are normaly with in half a sec of each other my way or yours at events.

Fun event and i'll be there next year!

think you may need a history lesson brad, mark was driver one last year on all occasions if you bothered to look. i was the second driver so i got the heated braked and tyres and he still set the fastest time and broke his own record.

anyway wish i had been there watching instead of stuck under a car, well done to you guys great result.

well done to you too noddy ! hope to see ya at morgan park.

Getting back on track, Gatton that is, I'm not a big fan of the average time thing. It included the first lap which is traditionaly not included so ppl don't over do it and have a very short weekend. Even thought it doesnt change the class or catagory positions, it did put my official average lap time down some 10 places.

In the weeks leading up to the event I had been working very hard along with my tuner to get a GTR manifold to work better for us in the bottom end of the rev range. Wed arvo after work I pulled pin on the GTR manifold and started looking for some stock runners, which I found in Bris. Picked them up that night, a 4 hour+ round trip with peak hour traffic. Thursday evening was on a mill making some mods for GTR inj and so on. Friday morning it all got put together and winched on to the truck. Stopped at my tuner and we uploaded the relivent mapping and kept on going to gattonso we could get through scruitnerring and setting up a pit. First run off the line pulling 2nd gear..... pipe pops off. 44 sec lap and my averag is shot. "Not to worry" I thought, "it doesn,t count". How wrong was I.

yeah that sucks , i'm not real keen on the every run counts towards a total either .. you should be able to drop at least 2 runs or something

i know what your saying about popping a cooler pipe , i got a dnf because of it wich reminds me i borrowed 2 x motorbike tie downs out there to keep my pipes together if anyone knows who they are send me there address so as i can send them back
