SAU Members,

I have a polished set of rocker covers, new gasket set, bolt torque instructions from the manual and an installation diagram.

Do I need to know anything specific about the installation of the gasket, so that I don't screw it up first time?

Do the metal surfaces need to be prepared, cleaned, etc?

Does anything need to be applied to the metal surfaces or gasket?

Many thanks for help in advance.

Regards

Jimbo

When i re-install my gaskets on my rocker covers i put a thin layer of clean, new oil on the side that contacts the rocker cover, then press the gasket into place.

Then apply a thin layer to the side of the gasket that contacts the head. Seems to work.

I have taken my covers off 3-4 times now and haven't replaced the gasket yet, and have not had the slightest of leaks.

And i also clean off any old oil/grit from the head before hand too. Pretty much just like putting on an oil filter :D

gotRICE,

Many thanks.

I'll post a few pics of the installation from start to finish, including the rocker cover polishing process.

RusH,

So far it looks like if I do all the work myself, it will be $100 for the polishing, and $44 for the gaskets only. That's the minmium cost. Similarly, Just Jap in Sydney charge you around that price for polished units on exchange only.

TM Autosports also say that they can remove then refit for the R34 for $160 if we don't do DIY.

Hope they turn out. Keep you posted.
