I heard this on JJJ today so I looked it up... interesting! Could be very popular!

TAFE motorsport course mooted for Mount Panorama

The Western Institute of TAFE is pushing ahead with plans to establish the first motorsport training course in NSW.

The first intake of 15 students is set to begin the 18 week course in July this year.

The head automotive teacher, Steve Evans, says the Bathurst council has indicated it will allow the course to be run at Mount Panorama, but the agreement is yet to be finalised.

He says the course will equip students with the skills necessary to work in the pits of major racing events.

"We're flat out at the moment, we're planning to start training in July," he said.

"We've got a lot of work to do to develop the program and to advertise and publicise the event and hopefully we'll get enough candidates which I have no doubts about.

"There'll be students coming out of the woodwork."

Mr Evans says if the council agrees to allow classes to be held at the Mount, it will be a major drawcard for students across the state and overseas.

"It'll cover all aspects of motorsports," he said.

"There'll be pit lane work, right to the area of setting up the pit area as well as the repair side of the industry where they are actually removing and replacing components, rebuilding components, servicing the vehicle while it is not at the race meeting."

I had not heard about it until about three weeks ago at Phillip Island. We had a kid doing the course helping us rebuild the engine and pitting for us. Have to say its a great idea.....and the kid worked his arse off.

This has been around in QLD, NSW and VIC for a while. It’s such a great idea. The one is QLD at least is held out in the middle of no where, a side from that I’d love to do it one day even just for the experience more so then career prospects.

YEAH, most of our take kids that help out at the rounds are from the woodonga tafe... great idea but gives them limmited mechanical ability.

all are there for the love of the sport but the subjects they teach are not on par with your averge automotive tafe cirt..

the main objective is to open the door for working on a race team. without them we would be very overworked at the track.

Warwick isn't in the Middle of no where! It's just a little out of the way!

We do have a excellent Race track.

What happened with them being kicked off M/P to test set ups an such? Last time I spoke with them/people doing the course they didn't have a track to play with cars on

This might not be totaly on the money, it was a while ago, but the local motorsport rumour mill put it something like this.

The convenor of the course [(motorsport course)now retired] was on the Leyburn sprints committie (spelling?) and the date for the street sprints was on the week before a meeting at M/P. the idea being that ppl could come up for the street sprints, leave the car up here and do the Historic meeting the following week end. Someone with some clout at M/P took offence thinking that ppl would take thier cars home and not come back because there would be too many meatings close together.

Or something like that.

    • Hey all, I'm sorry if this has been discussed before.  I have a 2008 Japanese import V36 coupe with nav but without Bose. I bought one of those AliExpress android screens, which for the most part works really well.  The only thing that doesn't work is the air con controls (well sort of) and the factory reverse camera.  The AC can be controlled fine but it doesn't report the change in temp and mode to the screen, and the volume knob/other audio controls from the panel don't register on the learning app.  I am pretty certain that the problem is the difference in the head unit between base model (Nav but no Bose) 2007-2009 coupes and anything after 2009.  Mine is the one with the blue connector all the way to the right as seen in this forum post:  The reason I think this is there is one wire left over that doesn't fit anywhere on this head unit, or in the factory screen which also uses different connectors to more recent versions.  I've seen the upgrade from OWC, and have sent the guy a message on eBay but no response yet.  I also don't particularly need the whole kit, just *maybe* an adapter for this one cable.  Did anyone else here have the same problem, or have any insight about what I can do to get this working?  I have been in contact with the seller but all they seem to be able to do is ask for more pictures and videos. Minor edit to add:  I have been researching and found a screen on Aliexpress that actually specifies my head unit in the listing, so these things do exist.  I will contact the seller to see if the wiring adapters are interchangeable with other screens.   Thanks in advance!
