Not holding my breath. Pete, I'd be happy to send the Govt my stimulus monies, but I know it wouldn't go towards a drag strip.

Hospitals and Education are top of the list.

Would be nice tho. I'd def be out there drag racing again.

channel 10 news just ran a story on the drag strip proposal.the transport minister (whoever he is) said they wont be building or supporting a dedicated track or strip for (hoons) to practice there dangerous driving so then they can get out on the public roads and do the same thing. the opposition dude seems to be all for it tho (but do they ever agree?)

yes because hoons are using the drag strip to "practice hooning" arent they mr transport minister

all that can be said about that is this

if there was a dedicated track/area to drift , ie; big open part of tarmac/asphalt that you could set cones up for a custom sort of layout ,

i would happily pay $200 a day to skid on it , there is no way in f*** im going to skid on the street ,

1) its dangerous as fk

2) i dont want to right my car off

i think its easier to move to japan lol....

You want to send a very loud and very clear message to the government.....put your $900 in an envelope (when you get it), address it to Mike and ask him to put this in a high interest trust account to help fund a new track. Even if only 1000 people did this, it would hit the front page of the papers and highlight the absolute need out there.

If I qualified I would do it........can I see some hands...........didn't think so. :D

Not a bad idea. Why not hold a public rally like the one organised last year at pt Adelaide except hold it at parliament house on Saturday night. Organise the general public, motor sport and car clubs to attend. Lets show mister Rann how many of his voters are car enthusiasts. If you want publicity blocking off Nth Terrace with 1000 + cars for several hours on Saturday night will definatly make the front page. If mike doesn't respond do it again the following weekend. The time is right to push the government on this issue.

haha, yeah sending your $900 back was said tongue in cheek.....would make a nice headline though and a bit of a slap in the face to big Mike.

He'd only put it yowards his next trip to the tropics or use it to further his push with the anti-association laws though.

id be in that, why not make it a monday morning to really upset traffic flow.big mike might even be at work that day...?something of this nature would be a great idea to show the government our how out of touch they really are

Ive said for years that a driver education course should be passed to get your licence. Now with a drag strip and course in adelaide (that is flat) can provide the new driver the education and experience needed to get out of driving situations. Go ask a new driver how do you get out of a situation if your car starts to drift out from the rear end and they wont be able to tell you most of the time.

Im all for a new motorsport park to take it all of the streets but it doubles for the government as a cash flow and tourist attraction aswell as used for driver education when motoring events arent being held.

-end rant-

More fuel:

Channel 7, Today Tonight at 6:30pm, they showed more street drifting in Japan and even clips out of the Fast and the Furious and compared it all to the crash that's just occurred. Road transport minister on camera said "This government will not tolerate a motor sport park".

They're once again, pushing for the crushing of cars... even though only one tiny state in the USA has that current law.

he's not the transport minister, he is the "road safety minister" but he is also a bumbling backwards thinking idiot.

this is what he had to say tonight, "where not going to build a drag strip for people to hoon there"...... now think about that statement, what do you do at a motorsport venue? leisurely putter down the qtr mile?

this guy cannot simply put a sentence together without looking like a mumbling idiot or just plain stupid, and he is poised as the "golden boy" of the labor party :s

i suppose the positive out of all of this is we actually have talk of a drag strip in the public eye, even if it is negative press its better than nothing! the libs, port adelaide mayor, prominent spokespeople are all getting behind it, lets just hope this bit of press is the first step towards a forward thinking state

Hey guys saw the story on the news tonight here in bris and just thought i would have a look on the forum here see what happened etc etc, this thread esp drew my attention. After living in adelaide for a few years as some of you may know and now living in brisbane i must say there is a very different culture in the import scene up here.

In bris the one thing i have found is the amount of oppurtunity there is to take your car/bike etc onto the tracks. Up here you have access to qld raceway, lakeside raceway, mount cotton training area (skid pan, hill climb area) and various hill climbs and the like. There is trackdays every second week both weekdays and weekends (sometimes there once a week), there is wednesday night drags run every few weeks, aswell as skid pan days and hill climbs. At times I have had to cancel on one event cause another was being run.

In adelaide I found, you didnt want to drive your to mallala in fear of being defected and the only other option was the hills.

You do tend to notice that on the roads up here your happy just to sit back and cruise along because you know that next weekend your out at the track etc where you can push your car to its limits. Perfect example was I attended a motorkana skid pan day recently, it was 90 bucks but the some of the best fun I have ever had and all that was is a big wet concrete area with cones on it. After being there you have no need at all to try anything stupid in the wet cause you realise how damn easy it is to spin out and if you were on the street it could be someone else your hitting instead of a witches hat.

I realise that Sa gov really are f**kheads and getting funding for anything that might be fun is just plain ridicuous. But as someone thats interested in cars and to hardly ever see someone being a dick on the street or even just "giving it" a bit is really really diff.

Im not saying that everyone that owns a import is a hoon or anything like that. But you dont have to be damn einstein to realise you own you enjoy that feeling when the turbo kicks in.

Getting ppl to a track enviroment on a regular basis does work and is damn enjoyable, you dont have the need or want on the street to put your foot in just because.

I too would be in it.

i can not belive all these people on here saying "build us a track build us a track"

STOP for a minute THINK about it

in the governments eyes ALL OF US ON THESE FORUMS ARE "HOONS"

They will never ever even think about it yet alone do it,

this is a state where you come to see out your old days in peace and quiet

We all have drivng licences so obey the road rules and the law

Please be realistic about it . . .

We have Mallala if you want go there what difference will another track do in adelaide?

Whats wrong with mallala? too far? too expensive?

IF WE REALLY NEEDED ANOTHER TRACK IN THIS COUNTRY TOWN THEN THE MALLALA WOULD HAVE TO BE BOOKED OUT AROUND THE CLOCK BUT ITS NOT

    • Hi. A little bit of an update. It maybe(hope not) looks like i would need a new tranny(it would be "maybe" a cheaper or better option anyway) So i need some info. I know i need a different propshaft(i can make custom one) LSD is not a problem cuz the engine will be still(for now) N/A RB20. So if i buy RB25DET NEO tranny...is there something else i need? I read something about push/pull type but i do not know if i need to "change" something or i can just plug n play onto my engine a go? Thanks for the advice
    • Good morning all, Bit of a random question but figured I’d finally throw it out after wondering for a long while. Before I start, I'm hoping to do this purely out of personal preference. I think it would look better at night, and don't mind at all spending a few hours and dollars to get it done. I've copied this from a non-Skyline specific forum, so I apologize for the explanation of our headlight switch setup that we all know. Here we go: Zero lights (switch off) Parking lights (switch position 1) being a rectangular marker on the outside of the housing, my low beam being the projector in the centre (position 2), and a high beam triggered by my turn signal stalk. Most North American cars I’ve owned of this era have power to the amber corner (turning indicator) light as part of the first switch (parking lights). I’d love to have these amber corners receive power when the headlights and parking lights are on (headlight switch), yet still blink when using the turn signal which is of course a separate switch. Hopefully I’ve explained my question correctly. Is anyone aware of a way in which I might be able to achieve this? Thanks in advance
    • My heads are cathedral port! It's likely possible, but I don't want to add any extra moving parts (I know they don't move) between the heads, manifolds, etc. It will also affect how injectors/fuel rails etc sit and I don't really know if it would change how the FAST manifold goes/sits/fits. I have the LS6 steam pipes already as I have a very late LS1 block so it should be fine. I couldn't find anyone who had ever actually used one for this purpose, it seems 100% of people grind the water pump. The thermal spacers are 12mm and are half way to the cost of the newer water pump anyhow... so if it comes to that I suppose I'd rather buy a new pump. The bearing in the pump I do have is a little.. clunky, but it hasn't done that much time and I never noticed it when the car was together in the past few years, so..
    • The bushing has failed, not all that uncommon for a car of this age.  Any mechanic should be able to push in a new bushing for you, or you can probably buy the entire lower control arm, complete with bushes.
    • Could you not use "thermal" spacers to give the clearance, like the ones I used between the blower and head? That raised the manifold height by around 10-15mm Albeit the ones I used were for cathedral ports, but I assume they have similar for rectangular ports????
