i can not belive all these people on here saying "build us a track build us a track"

STOP for a minute THINK about it

in the governments eyes ALL OF US ON THESE FORUMS ARE "HOONS"

They will never ever even think about it yet alone do it,

this is a state where you come to see out your old days in peace and quiet

We all have drivng licences so obey the road rules and the law

Please be realistic about it . . .

We have Mallala if you want go there what difference will another track do in adelaide?

Whats wrong with mallala? too far? too expensive?

IF WE REALLY NEEDED ANOTHER TRACK IN THIS COUNTRY TOWN THEN THE MALLALA WOULD HAVE TO BE BOOKED OUT AROUND THE CLOCK BUT ITS NOT

Well Mallala doesn't have a drag strip for starters.

You actually have a point there. Why couldnt mallala be upgraded and why isnt it booked out?

There's a considerably greater cost involved in preparing your car for circuit work.

A trip down the drags is just your every day car + the entry fee and a helmet. Its a great place to 'loiter/socialise' with mates.

Police (NSW specifically) have stated a drag strip reduces incidents of street racing. Every little bit helps. Imposing tougher and tougher hoon laws may scare the youngans and they may very well try their luck and run instead of pull over. Thats my concern. :S

When I was younger I don't really remember that many street drags down anzacs. People used to cruise and you would see some awesome cars on after a drag night but generally it was fairly sensible. It was some time ago so my memory is fading.

A a few years back anzac drag way got much worse. On the way home one night I came across a group of 10+ cars doing laps down anzacs. There was a tubbed sigma, multiple imports and a heap of v8 commodores etc. All dropping speeds to 20-30km/h and then screaming off down anzacs. I swear I never saw any of that in my younger days and we used to do the hindley, rundle and jetty laps almost all night. :S

I was lucky enough to have access to my church's rear property...its mainly grass/trees and all us guys let out our immature behavior there (which aint bad)haha 1 guy hit a tree there rofl.... my first car was front wheel drive and i learnt how to loose control and what i needed to regain as much "control" as was possible... and it has improved my understanding of my car.... By doing that i dont feel i need to hoon everytime im driving... but i still want a motorcomplex thing for drift and drag..maybe a hills run etc

i havnt even got my r32 yet and my mate keeps wanting me to drag him this weekend but he dont get that i dont want to do it... what are some peoples problems geez... high-five too all the guys that keep their full car potensial to the track! Where is should be

havnt read much of this thread but i think you will agree with me... hoons and enthusiets are 2 groups, streroityped into one...

we love our lines,stags,ceffies,180s etc etc etc commy boagans love the thrill.

we have to accept were fighting an extreamly uphill battle... us sau guys may do the right thing, but its the few random dudes that muck it up for all of us. u cant moniter everyone, everywhere. even sum dude that buys a line coz there 'cool' only has to snap 2nd or what eva and it reflects on EVERY one of us!

i think we need to think if we had a track woudl we actualy use it? we say yes but would we? roo touched on this back a bit and id have to say that id say we need 1 but duno how often i would actauly use it.

to get my Ps i seriously didnt have to try, in all honesty.. ive had 4 cars and im 19, 1 write off (i didnt give way being stupid) one economical write off (they ran a red light) and 2 stags... and its not until your involved in this you actualy realise how seriouse it is. i was scared shitless when the air bags went off both times.... too loose your pride and joy in an instant is one thing to loose your self is another. im way off topic here but my vote is were really pushing uphill and id say its not gna happen... weve dug our self too deep.

do we need a strip, block track or all?? how long would it be threw the mallala track? way more than a 1/4 mile?? would this be a possability?

track, strip and a semi motor karna thrash around block all in one? bit far out of town but alot more realistic chances?

You need about 1/2 a mile or more for a drag strip as the fast cars need a fair bit of road to slow down.

Drag strip somewhere close to civilization. Something like a drive-in movies... you pay at entry, line up next to someone you want to run with, have guys check over things make sure you got your helmet and wearing it, do the run and then get your timeslip upon exit. Quick, simple and cheap is the key.

thats 800m ish? give or take... im sure it would be an option? either startline way across to the striat, or general line of the strait... how long is it?? could you build onto it or ne thing???

Yeah Chad is right, a 1/4 mile strip equal 1/2-3/4 mile once you factor in run off area and stagging area. heard from a really reliable source with links to the EPA that AIR is pretty much a no go, mainly due to Mr. Jane buying contaminated fill to build the mounds. Yep still full of asbestos!

But its great to see everyone raising some great and valid point in here. And thanks Peter, just thought it would help take the heat of you and Andrew after the last few days.

alright Joel, I delegate you to organize something......need someone with 1/2 a brain to be the front man

It wouldn't be too hard to organise just get in touch with the people who run the last rally. The public rally in Pt Adelaide was very professionally run. Guest speakers included members of parliament, the mayor of Pt Adelaide etc... .

I don't know all the facts but we ain't asking for the government to build the new motor sports park. There is a group of business men who have already raised the money needed, they just need the green light to start. If I'm wrong please correct me.

You can't compare mallala to what is planed :- A world class motor sport facility incorporating a drag strip, burnout pad, drift/circuit track, jet boats and a dedicated motor sport business precinct. All they need is public support. It is not just the drivers who use the facilities that will benefit it will also support the many businesses (my self included) that rely on motor sport.

im gonna take a guess and say mallala's owners dont want a qtr mile out there, the track has been around for donkies years and been very successful so if they wanted one id say they would have built it already.

places like AIR and this proposed port adelaide track are close, there a brief hour drive, lay down your $30-$50 to run, have a few runs, chat with all the blokes in the pits, and cruise on home like the good ol days. total cost is like $100, for entry, fuel and a burger and coke and is a great night out and gets all the temptation out of your right foot.

problem with mallala is it is a mamoth drive, entry is always starting around the $150-$200 mark and you will need new brakes, tires a whole tank of fuel and odds are you are gonna brake or strain something out there so a day out there starts to look at $500 ++++.

i went out to AIR basically every 2nd weekend with my old man for 16+ years and couldnt wait for the day i was old enough to have a car worthy of taking down the strip and my licence, i know i only drive my car once a fortnight now and id love for that to be a cruise up to AIR and a few runs with some mates. so essentially my "high powered death machine" is only being really used in a safe enviroment surrounded by firetrucks/ambo's

very long drive i agree. and i guess ur right in saying mallala doesnt want one..

where eles could we look into?

Even futher I know, but i heard a whisper that the mitsi test track at talem bend was going to be discontinued. Already a drag strip there and the same with a dirt track

-waits for the backlash- lol

Heard about the mitsi test track years back before AIR closed, main thing was it was too far away and would have cost too much to set up as a drag strip. but would be interesting to find out if and who its actually owned by now.
