ohhhh myyyy god, average age of callers is 80-90

theyve got old boys talkin about how this didnt happen back then, ya ya ya ya... wtf do they think american grafiti was about and what happened in it???

They just did a summary of the messages and said that a lot of them said that there needed to be a legal Drag racing outlet, What is kind of what i said.

I actually said that there is a 50 million set aside by a private consortium to build a drag strip. They have been lobbying the government for over 2 years to approve a site to build the track and yet the government hasn't done anything.

On a side note;

I did hear 6 months ago that there was a verbal agreement between the consortium and the government for a parcel of land a Gillman but 6 months later this still hasn't been put in writing.

Here's some more interesting ABC articles;

http://www.abc.net.au/local/audio/2009/03/...mp;rotator=true

http://blogs.abc.net.au/sa/2009/03/street-racing-t.html

Regarding the bottom link;

It's interesting that the Minister for road Safety commented that there is no correlation between building a legal track and a reduction in "hoon" traffic offences. And even when presented with the fact that WSID almost completely stopped the incidence of these offences when it opened in the western districts of Sydney, He completely disregarded it.

So this is just means that if we want a Drag Strip in SA on March 20th next year we need to make sure Ranns government doesn't get back in.

An admirable sentiment but considering how inept the state liberals are, getting rid of rann is going to be like pissing into a class 5 hurricane ;(

I'm sorry but it doesn't matter what the opposition is like he has to go, if we don't do it this time we will be living in a police state before we get another chance to get rid of him. I will bring up a few points;

The bikie laws; these laws stop people associating with each other. The problem is that these laws are on the books now so it isn't a big step to apply these laws to other groups seen to be no in the public interest. If you don't believe this will happen have a look at the repossession laws. Originally these laws stated that since there is to be no profiting from crime then any assets that are attained through illegal means are to be confiscated. Then once the public started to notice that there were repeat offenders doing stupid things on the streets, then the laws were changed to include what was previously not even a criminal act (the acts that are now covered in hoon laws were previously expiatable offences and weren't criminal acts) and now we can lose our cars for having a radio turned up too loud or anything else the police see as hoon behaviour as there is nothing to actually say what hooning actually is.

So once bigger restrictions are placed on high performance cars (and believe me they are coming if stupid behaviour of some of the young ones in our scene doesn't stop) there is a case of they don't work that it becomes illegal for high performance car owner to gather in groups.

If you don't think that governments work like that well you just have to look at some other facts. 18 months ago Mr Rann tried to impose a 1km/h tolerance on all roads in SA. It was forced through parliament at 11:30pm and is nothing more than a money raising effort which was highlighted the next day when the commissioner of police said that the laws were unjust as it is not possible for people to read that accurately or for spedo to be that accurate. So what are we seeing now???? the creeping adverts that are saying that people doing just a few Km/h over the speed limit are over represented in the accident stats which is actually the complete opposite they are almost non-existent in the stats. you will see that the 1km/h law will be reintroduced once that ad campaign has done it's job and public opinion is behind the law.

Also and I won't go into this but the proposed new hospital is nothing but a legacy that Rann is trying to create for himself, you can probably include the proposed new police building in that as even the police saying that it is a waste of resources.

Indeed he has to go, however the libs haven't put their hand up as a viable alternative atm. They're plagued by infighting and MHS has been silent on a large number of issues. Its like he wants to choose the more popular option without having any conviction behind his beliefs. That is why I doubt they'll get into power, and thats why we're probably going to have another term in Rannistan.

And I for one, will NOT be voting for either party. Quite frankly do we really want to vote for a guy just to get another guy out? I'd prefer to vote for people that represent my ideology, sadly most state parties are lacking in ideas and simply oppose the views of the other party as a matter of due course (which is why NOTHING ever gets done in this state).

out of left field

the drug shop laws were passed thru as a favour to the Powers to get Ranns son off a 3pound possession charge

:down:

Hrm thats political interference at its best (if that is the case)

What I can't understand is that 3 pounds is still under an indictable quantity... you can have up to 2 kilos/4lb before the crown infers that the posession was anything other than personal use...

If he got done for 3 lb, he'd be looking at a $500 fine max with or without a conviction (depending on how good the lawyer is and if the magistrate is having a good day and providing that its his first offence - secondary offences will just about always come with a conviction unless the circumstances are extremely extenuating)...Its almost not worth interfering, as stuff in the magistrates court barely gets reported by the media (altho being the son of the premier might have created a bit of a field day for the press)... I'm just not sure I buy that explaination - it'd be politically safer for his son to have copped the fine rather than there be any inference of corruption on Ranns part...

Gah. Politicians (all of them) make me want to puke

try doing some research on his other half and you may understand where this over the top bitterness towards bikies stems from......he puts laws in place to appease his personal lifestyle!
