Hey guys, need to replace my tie rod ends on my 32 gtst.

Have been quoted $130 each from nissan, $23 each from autobarn, or adjustable ones from Just jap for $149 for the pair (see image)

Looking at getting the ones from autobarn as I cant see why nissan ones are worth 5 times more. Has anyone replaced their tie rod ends with generic ones and had a bad experience?

Also, could anybody shed some light on what is adjustable on the just jap ones? Obviously they can be wound in and out. It appears that the bolt on the top might allow for some form of adjustment?

Any ideas?

Cheers

all tie rod ends are adjustable... thats how you change the toe settings on your front wheels. the ones from just jap would be the better option over the autobarn ones... they have pillowballs in them meaning reducing movement in the tie rod ball and giving a more direct steering feel.. but it will be harsher.

i really cant see how the just jap ones are adjustable in any other way than winding them in or or out on the tie rod.. unless you can wind the ball end out of the little housing, so you can wind the housing further on the tie rod if you have steering lock spacers to increase steering lock...

If the autobarn replacement ones are simply OEM-style replacements, you may as well go for them. The ones I fitted recently seemed good quality, as good as factory. I would not waste the extra money on the nissan ones.

I've got a set of Pedders tie rods on my 32, probably the same as the autobarn ones - I paid about $20 odd bucks each.

Had them on the car for 6 months now with no problems. I wouldn't bother with the justjap/nissan ones

Yes I think I shall be getting the ones from autobarn. I called fulcrum today to get a quote on a wheel alignment after I replace the tie rods and asked about the legality of rose joint tie rod ends. The guy I spoke to wouldn't comment and said I should contact QLD transport. Which makes me think they might not be legal. So I wonder what insurance would say if for some reason I had to make a claim and they found "illegal" steering components on the vehicle. Cheers for the input

very few aftermarket parts are "legal"

nissan and nismo, toyota and trd etc. parts are so expensive because they are all adr tested and comply with any regulations etc. they have to cover the cost of testing and r&d so they charge $130... then someone in china gets the nissan part and makes a cheap knock off, with no testing etc. and sells it for $20.

all the aftermarket company has to do is have a tiny warning on the packaging saying "off road or race use only" or "check legality in your state" and they are covered.

almost every modification you make is illegal.
