As you guys may know, you are required to have 1 X 900ml fire extinguisher for supersprints and 2 X 1 kg extinguishers for touring tarmac rallies. (Interestingly neither require you to have a Roll cage)

If you only attend these items rarely and still want to retain your car without extinguisher holes this is what I did:

Buy a 1 metre flat bar of 25 X 3mm Aluminium $5.00 from Bunnings

Cut it the length from front seat mount to front seat mount (about 47cm but measure first)

Drill holes to coincide with front anchor bolts to the seat, then remove the bolts, fit the bar mark the position of the holes in the extinguisher mounts (must be steel, plastic no longer acceptable) Drill these holes out with a 4mm drill and use a pop rivet to mount the extinguisher to the bar. Mount bar (now with extinguisher mounted) to mseat anchors using the original bolts.

It is now a two min job to install and remove the extinguisher when you need it.

Dominic, that sounds like a good, complete option.

I took another low impact approach, just put the extinguisher braket thru the bolt holding the rear seat to the floor (behind passenger seat). Still nice and close if I ever need to grab it.

very clever....i have an extinguisher and would like to keep it in the skyline ( some years back a modified turbo car of mine caught fire and was saved by a passer by with an extinguisher so since i carry one in that car ) but didnt wanna go drilling around...now i will try your method.

Cheers.

sorry, was that request pics of mine? its pretty basic, nothing to show here :D Just take bolt holding seat bottom down off, put mounting on, put bolt back thru

Dominic's solution sounds better, I'm just no good with stuff, and couldn't find a fabricator. Typerlc on these forums recommended the same trick a while back.

yahahaha

*Throws shovel aside

just purchased an extinguisher and mounted it ala duncans above post.

is it safe to leave it in there all the time?

Quote from the box

"In a car, place the extinguisher within reach of driver. the extingusher must be secure to the vehicle.

To ensure the extinguisher is ready for use at all times, do not store in direct sunlight or under a windscreen as temperature of 48 degrees (120F) are to be avoided"

does a car not get a lot hotter than 48 degrees if left in the sun for a couple of hours?

I'm not sure of the offical word on safety but mine lives in the car at all times including the 60 degree NT days :D

On the other hand 2 ppl were injured at the supercars at wakefield from extinguishers blowing up the other weekend

the one i bought yesteday was kiddie (kiddy?) i think.

i asked the dude there if there was ant difference between the two to choose from, they were both the exact same price and he said it wouldn't surprise him if they were the exact same product too, just a different box.
