i was taking the head bolts on my engine and stripped one, tryed another one that came out, tryed another that stripped again, tryed another and that work. how do i get stripped bolts out, and these bolts were done up really tight something like 50nm of torque so not hard to get out, would tapping be the best option? grind the head off? or am i buggered and need a hole new engine cos of this? the head is cracked so damaging the head taking these bolts out doesn't bother me.

You rounded off the head of the bolts or stripped the thread?

Rounded off bolts I use the next size down in the nearest imperial socket, usually can knock it on the remains and undo the bolt. Only use sockets you won't worry about breaking or otherwise ruining.

Best prevention is to use good quality tools with the correct size socket.

if u want to spend money go to bunnings and buy a set of irwin bolt extractors they r basically a socket with teeth that bite into the stripped bolt head....they r about 50 bucks a set but they will get 90% of stripped bolts out.

Another method is to use "Ezy-Outs". Ezy-Outs are a tapered tap with a reverse thread.

You drill a hole into the sheared bot, then insert the Ezy-Out, and as you turn it anticlockwise, it bites in to the bolt, and screws it out.

They are designed for exactly this circumstance (stripped heads off bolts). You can buy cheap sets, though name brands from Tool Shops do the trick.

Good luck Cobber............... Easy to get broken bolts out with these gadgets.
