n/a r34's are shit and slow. whats the point of having a nicer interior when you dont even want to drive the car? this will happen:

When choosing an N/A (or any import in my oppinion) its all about the aesthetics,

Supras have a curvy, fat, sexy (to some, not me) look going for them, R34's have a more rigid, boxy and much more meaner look.

I think its down to the kind of person you are and the kind of person you want to be seen as.

I'm looking to buy a N/A R34 because i love that tough look about it, and aswell the Skyline/GTR family will always be king (IMO)

General rule...

If there is a turbo version of either car, don't buy the NA version.

Why not get a nice BMW or something.

it will handle better than either of those cars.

They look better than both.

And you won't sit there thinking "I wish I had bought the turbo version"

When you CAN drive turbo cars, then see which you can afford.

I've recently seen a clean E36 325i coupe for $9K.

factory leather etc.

Much better finished car then eother of your choices.

What is that you are after in a car?

What I really don't want to do is pay an extra few grand for a badge.

I personally hate Beamers, they're ugly and nothing spectacular IMO.

If I really wanted to go that way I'd prob get a Lexus, if they too weren't so ugly. I've always loved imports, and it's never really been about the performance. I mean yes, I love the performance side of them, but I don't get a whole lot of personal joy from speeding, cornering or anything like that.

I can't really explain it. I guess it comes down to everyday road use. If I could get out to the track I'd certainly give the car a bit of a boot, but on the street it's just not worth it. I've been in enough trouble for one lifetime not to ever risk anything like that again.

Maybe I'll consider a Soarer. On a more random note, where I live I you literally will go for days without seeing a Skyline, Supra, etc. If you do, it'll just be a stock R33 kicking around, never a 34 or 32, but for some reason, there a dozens of Soarers all over the place. Which is why I didn't suggest them. That, and 90% of them are turbo charged.

I just want to cruise around in a car I've always loved and admired.

neither of your 2 choices will give any hint of performance or go too well around corners in stock 10-15 year old suspension.

and once you get a set of Superlowsbro on them, it'll look the part for sure.

and handle even better

i had an e36 318i"S" for sport, it was slow as a fat woman on a tredmill. ride was average.... same with the e46's, slow and dissapointing for the money they cost.... interior is el cheapo plastic, ugly inertior and exterior, my mums one has things stuffing up on it EVERYDAY with out exageration and my gf's mums has the same amount of problems except random things are breaking on it, they are both 3 years old, ones a 318i and other is 320i. The most useless car ever made in europe and sold in australia.

ive got a 1996 seriess 2 gtst and only probs ive had so far (year and a half) snapped an exhaust bolt while changing the dump and needed a new clutch.... basic things....

anyway back to r34 and na supra....

supra = faster (still slow lol)

= Handles better

= Sounds allot nicer with decent exhaust

= Cannot stick p plates to it magnetically if ur a p plater (lol)

= toyota has a better track record than nissan for reliability

and where did this price thing come from???

4 door r34's from $10- 13K (98-2001)

2 door r34's from $12.5k (98 models)

supra 93 models from $10k

supra jza80 98 models from $14K

you cannot compare a 93 supras price to a 98-2001 r34 gt's price, there are too many variables

i'd say the r34 is better value, interior is important to consider considering your the one looking at it all day (and supra has the worst interior ever), r34 comes in triptronic where as supra you only get auto or rare manual.

r34 is slower but lets face it, if ur buying an na supra or r34 for speed then your a fool, r34 is more fuel efficient and cheaper and more parts available if need be at a better price.

in the end i'd choose a black r34 gt that has already got a few extras on it like sound system, better wheels, exhaust and has been lowerd (thats what i nearly got instead of my r33 gtst lol

Theres about a million non turbo Supra's around here, and not a single one, they aren't exactly a powerhouse, and the looks, yuk! I always thought it was the motor (2JZ-GTE) which sold Supra's not the horrible shape.

Why bother with an N/A Skyline which is really clown shoes for a real turbo one, I guarantee if you went that route, you'd end up wishing you'd waited and got a turbo one, they are slower than a VN, and would you really bother trying to upgrade 4 stud hubs so you can get decent rims, or really throw any money on it, when you'd probably end up selling it for next to nothing, or parting it out.

I think the Euro idea such as a BMW would be a more viable alternative, and less of a cop magnet. The E36 318iS which I drove handled great and braked great for what I was expecting (auto and didnt go overly fast, but it genuinely was fun to drive) Or why not buy a late model Commodore V6, which is going to be a whole lot faster and newer anyway.

What's the difference between the older Supra's and the newer ones?

I thought all the newer VVTI (or whatever it is) were turbo only.

Better/stronger engine? Any other differences?

My 2 cents...

I drive a R34 GTT and I ve also driven a NA R34, and honestly i dont see wats all the fuss with NA bein a lesser option to the Turbo, i mean yeah sure its a bit slower, I mean srsly and I do mean practically u dont go fast enough or often enough on the roads to really need it, its not like ur racing everyday to work and back. Provided the fact dat u drive responsibly and do not wish to fork out 80 bucks a week on petrol or those potential speeding tickets. and wit the mild petrol prices, u'll be floorin the car less and less...

Furthermore if just put aside all bias, hype and testostrone regarding NA vs turbos and have a look at the cars as they are in their everyday perspective, eg goin to work, goin out, shoppin. etc u really need to make a no BS cost benefit assessment on wat u really need based on your driving habits and expecatations.

So the point im tryin to make is dat I m not sayin the turbo isnt good or anythin ( i drive one my self and i d be slappin my self in the face if i did), im just sayin theres nothin wrong with ownin a NA, provided fact that u love Skylines as they are and at the same time still care for ur wallet size and road safety. But the turbo is still the icing and cant argue wit it, however Nissan made the NA for a purpose not just cos they ran out of turbos and decided to run off a few thousand without it ...lol..But srsly if its made then we should respect its purpose, after all its still part of the Skyline family.

IMO Supra is relatively old, small interior, and IMO the engine has done and gone passed its golden ages, so u gotta consider the years left in them and the potential repairs u ll need to face, but then again its all personal perspectives... but in all considerations, Skyline is a Skyline, u cant compare...its in the blood

I used to have a Lexus, very nice cars.

Why not go a Lexus GS300? Same N/A 2JZ engine as the Supra but you get 4 doors, 5 comfy seats, leather and a sunroof.

My take on it is if I was going to get a non-turbo car it would be a nice cruiser, if I was going to go a "sports" car, then I'd go with a turbo model. In saying that both the R34 and the Supra in my opinion are very good looking cars, so if you like the look, why not buy the car?

Are you serious? I've never been in a supra, but I can't Imagine having less room in the back then there is in my R34! lol

the back seat in a supra was only put there to cover up the metal in the back lol. there is no room at all in there. (when i wrote off my na i had someone in the back but h is only like 5.2 or something) also take into account if u have a accident in a skyline there not anywhere near as solid as a supra either.

i got t boned in mine . . . hhard and there wasnt even that much damage 3 grown dudes got out unscratched. i dont see that happening in a 34.

if ur gonna go luxury then get an aristo.

srsly though dont bother with bmws they r shit boxes ive had 1. i like the lexus range though i currently have an ls400 which is about to be rebuilt with a nice twin turbo set up and bags as my daily lol

i wouldn't say the supra handles better, shiet feels like a massive tank when cornering, tooo much weight.

i've driven both, supra is definately more powerful but the R34 has better looks & interior then the supra, it handles better as well.

n/a jza80 supra weighs 1440kg with half a tank of fuel and stereo. 52/48 weight distribution. i got this off a friend's corner weight scale

they aren't as heavy as people think. they handle very f**kin well when driven properly

but it all depends what you want

ive got an R32 GTR and it handles so differently to the supra. theGTR you just point and shoot, let the atessa sort it out for you

supra requires a bit more righ foot sensitivity...

but just drive them both and see what you think. personally, i reckon the R34s are butt ugly, except for the GTR

I own an n/a r34 sedan (i know its different to a coupe...) and my best mate owns an n/a Supra. In my opinion the supra is a faster car in terms of performance, tiny bit more economical due to the stronger torque, feels more comfortable over the small bumps and generally feels a little bit more planted - my mate says the supra is a softer car in terms of body rigidity - he uses it as a daily too... but in saying that I myself cannot live with it as a daily driver - its not a practical car overall. Reasons - small boot, almost usless back seat, awkward to get in and out of, hard to park (from my perspective - this is debatable).

I think the R34 - is a better car "overall", my reasons - got lots of space (but i'm taking from sedan experience), easy to drive and park (due to it being boxy), parts are cheaper and readily available, easier access, street cred (looks tough/mean), great support from SAU forums, body rigity - car feels more solid, lots of after market stuff - therefore upgrades are easy to come by (if that's what your into), i love tiptronic function, very predictable handling, "can" be more economical but I find it hard to achieve this. Dis-advantages - it is slower off the line vs the supra, does not feel as planted (but the differnece is tiny), heavy bonnet (supra has an alloy bonnet), needs to be revved harder to get some decent power, suspension feels quite stiff - especially over the small bumps in comparison to the supra.

End of the day - its personal preference - Just remember don't expect the N/A cars to be anything special in terms of engine performance, for my setup i've concentrated on handling and braking to make up for the lower power as i do heaps of mountain runs.

pretty much every good thing u said about an na 34 a supra owner (or ex supra owner like my self) will say about the supra.
