G'Day,

I am rebuilding my RB26 and I got the machine shop to drill and tap the manifold so I could put the nipple in for the MAP sensors. I haven't got the computer (therefore instructions) but it make sense to do it how while everything is apart.

Anyway they put the holes in 3 and 4 just behind the throttle bodies, all good until I put the linkages back on and it hit the nipple to cylinder No.3. I have plugged the hole but I will not be able to tap another hole in No.3.

Does it matter if the nipple in No.2?

I can't imagine it would make any difference but before I drill the hole I thought I would ask.

I had mine in the factory vacuum hole and split the boost/vacuum to both map sensors.

It actually idled better and off boost response was better than my current vipec

However the d-jetro was for pump fuel and vipec is with e85 so that was not a fair to compare both...but just to state that it works.

Thanks for that.

i highly reccomend NOT using the setup 9krpm used, i know it works and i have done a few for people in a hurry or unable to afford the proper install BUT it does not trace consistantly as it does in the designated positions. It is a comprimise and after spending $1600-2000 or so on a ecu why not use it to its potential.

Uras, I was keen to follow the Apexi instruction too. However my tuner had a chance to test a r33, with almost the same engine setup, with the Denso map sensors in the Apexi recommended locations just prior to mine. We tested my way and the tuner was comfortable that there wasn't any practical gain so I left it there.

It's not that difficult to follow Apexi instruction. However my tuner was happy with either way so I left it there. The car felt fine so I used the same setup when I upgraded the engine to the OS giken.

I now have a Vipec and it uses the same spot for the Motec map sensor.

I thought id revive a topic rather than make another one so here goes!

Ive pulled my plenum off and im now stuck at choosing where to place my 2 nipples for the map sensors.

This is where im at so far:

DdCXO.jpg

I have put red dots on my choices of where i want to put the nipples. If i put the nipples on the throttle body plate i save myself alot of hassle but im just not sure if it will work.

Has anyone placed a nipple there before?

The other alternative is to push a rag down runners 3 and 4 and apply some grease and start drilling into the 2 red dots that are closer toward the engine which i really do not want to do. I do not want to remove that item off the engine either

Its seems much easier to cover the wholes rather than removing that whole thing....... taking the plenum off was a pain by itself lol.

haha why do you say that? i had the throttle bodies off and i was picking away at the crispy gasket, i put it back on to take a photo - all that black stuff is silicone - whoever did the gaskets before did a good job

only problem with having the nipples just behind the throttle blades is that the injectors are in the way but ill test it out 2moro to see if it clears or not, if it does then ill just have to have them on those other red dots closer to the engine on an angle so its not in the way of the injectors

how is it only a 5min job to take the rest off? doesnt the bottom and top champers need to come off first? seems like a mission..

if i have to do it, i will do it, but sumthing tells me it will be a waste of time

i took my vacum source for the map sensors from the balance tube. there is a crankcase one way valve (dunno what it is called) on the balance tube. took that out and installed a four way brass tee (two 1/8" female port, female 1/4" port and a male 1/4" (think that is the size) threaded side.

had this on for over a year now and no probs with idle. car has Injector Dynamics 720cc injectors.

yes it can work with other vacuum sources but from my limited experience with DJETRO and listening to others (like URAS) who have seen and done many more than me it does make a difference. not just to the idle. if you can do it properly then do it. I bought a whole batch of the little nipples and now on any GTR of mine if the plenum and throttles etc comes off it gets the two little holes drilled and tapped and the nipples inserted I then just run a vac line between them to seal them off if not needed but down the track they are there if needed. for less than $50 it's worth it.

Funnily enough my current GTR runs a motec and it's map sensor is not taken from there and it does run very well, but if I were going DJETRO again I'd be doing it properly.

well after a couple of hours of careful work, i have successfully drilled and tapped the holes, i also used high temp permatex thread sealant on the thread of the nipple and put those nipples into their new home :)

so for the record, you cannot drill it anywhere else because the injectors are in the way. Theres only 2 ways to do this, get the vac feed off the balance tube or you can drill into runners 3 and 4 which i have done, on an angle. ill post up pics tonight for future reference.
