Adjustable Cam Gears

I got some os giken adj. cam gears thrown into my gtr when i was having it rebuilt, but later got to thinking, considering adjusting the CAS positioning forward or backward retards or advances the timing, cant u just use this ?

Do the adj. cam gears adjust it to a greater extent? I am guessing the CAS only adjusts the exhaust side timing not that of the intake side? Did have a look around and found threads saying the adj cam gears are a worthwile upgrade, but is this just for the intake adjustments?

I would have thought that too big an adjustment would only cause trouble

Sorry but you are completely misunderstanding things.

The crank angle sensor adjusts the ignition timing.

The adjustable cam gears adjusts the cam shaft timing (Degreeing).

The two are not the same.

Ah ok, that makes sense, i'm a losty, so what part of the engine measures how rich/lean it is running? Or does the ECU just assumed the engines running the right mixture until it starts detecting knock etc, and go off maps that show how much fuel/air etc it will need based on afm readings, ignition timing, injector duty etc

My knowledge of cars made after 85 isn't too crash hot
