Hey guys, used to come on here when i was saving for a car, but the dream died (as did lack of money) but i have started saving again and keeping an eye out for cars. Ive found this one in just the next suburb over. Ive been over and had a look and it needs some paint work, so he dropped the price to 11800 which i still cant afford, i really wasnt expecting to even look at another car for a few months, it was just so close. I told him i would see what i could do as there was a possibility of getting a loan from my parents, which didnt happen, now hes messaged me saying he really needs it gone and can go to $10500 and work out some kind of payment schedule over a couple of months. Is this a bad idea? Im a student and generally i make around $300 a week. Its tempting as id love the car, but is it a bad idea to have a car that you havnt paid for?? Any advice guys, as this is the first car i will be buying myself.

Thanks and look forward to oneday cruising with you all

Sounds desperate to sell it off if you ask me...Ask yourself why...

If he needs it gone ASAP, you'd assume he needs the cash for something else, which is all well and good. But, if he's offering you a 'payment plan', then he's not going to have all the $ up front anyway...

Yeah i think i will just leave it, would feel a lot more comfortable driving a car i own outright, plus looking around i think that's a bit much for a stock car, lol i guess i just got excited by the prospect of a new car, one day though, and it will be all the more rewarding when i own it too, as my mother would say :D

Mate, don't mean to be all "Mother and Father" here but sounds to me like you really can't afford the car to begin with.

I'm guessing you're pretty young and it doesn't sound like you've go the biggest income. Have you thought about Fuel, Insurance and Rego? These cars are pits for money. Maybe wait that little bit longer untill you're more secure and get the car you want rather than the one you can afford...just :D

i think the biggest piece of advise i or anyone else here can offer you when it comes to the world of imports is - 'DONT RUSH ANYTHING'

a car is a pretty big purchase, and an import requires lots of time and maintenance costs; the worst thing you could do is to make a snap decision and getting a 'lemon' or something thats gonna cost you more down the track.

Dont be hasty with anything to do with imports, be patient, the car you want will come up that fits your budget and has everything you want on it. I was impatient when i purchased my car - exactly the same as you. And i regretted it so much for a year or two afterwards cos things kept breaking and i was always on the back foot financially. And as Adzmax says - u got insurance, rego, plus will probably need at least $1000 for RWC and other small things to get it running right.

So yeah, just be patient, and something perfect will pop up.

good luck mate :D

**EDIT** - looking at the odo on the car, looks like it has been tampered with - see how the numbers don't line up correctly at all form the 7 backwards? they should all be dead straight apart from the last 2 numbers i'm pretty sure.

Can anyone else confirm this?

Best advice, ever.

i wasn't shooting him down... and i didn't say this is a useless thread... and im still assuming this guy doesnt have half the money that is required to buy that car...

we all get excited at one stage or another and have these wild imaginations of what we want to do or buy... n then reality kicks in...

i still stand by my statement that there will be useless threads pop up caus of school holidayz...

thnx

there are Gtst coming up for sale nearly everyday in the for sale section if you havent looked already... thers a few S2 with stock to low mods for under 10k... price of R33's have gone down heaps... its a Buyer market... you have a choice of x amount of cars and you can bargain.. as some1 above said... take ur time when deciding on the car... check out every detail about it and even run it through FAST... you cant be too careful...

GTS 25T is the standard sticker at the back of a turbo R33, most dont have them as they have been pealed off by the owner... GTS25 is non turbo.. although that doesnt tell much about the car these days either  just look out for the front mount and the srrchhhh... lol

gudluck dude...

Thanks for your help mate, want to keep it stockish so i know its legal, need to avoid fines, ill check out the for sale section, why are so many people selling, i know the worlds a mess but id think you would want to hold onto it to have something to keep your mind off things, do a lot of people have them as second cars? I see now that this fella was asking way to much as it needed around a grand in paint touch ups. Will be sure to keep checking out the forums in my spare time while i continue to save, its a good read!

Wait for a few years...............probably what your parents are telling you, hence why they didn't give you the loan.

Scrapping just enough money to buy the car is only half the battle.

You just questioned why so many are for sale. Well at least half will be because they can't afford to keep the car on the road (read below), they couldn't control themselves and lost their lic. or had the car impounded a couple of times.

As ADZMAX has stated:

- Rego $600

- Insurance $1000-$3000 per year

- Maintenance

- fuel (if you use a tank a week approx 400km you're looking at $80approx per week)

- Servicing

- etc

mate don't settle for something jsut because its 5 mins away from u!!

when i bought my 33 recently i looked at about 7 33s, driving to all parts of victoria (good old gps helped me out  ).

if you want a good car go look for it mate. not to say that a good car cant be 5 mins away but you get the point.

i bought a series 2 for less then 10k and its only because i tried my hardest to find the best deal and best car for my money. my moto for when i was trying to find a 33 was "don't settle for second best" as i thought i would end up with a series 1 for 10 grand!!!

*edit* oh yeh forgot the main part lol...it would be better if you bought a car outright. a payment schedule to someone u didn't know would be pretty bad.

Thanks again for your advice guys, gonna buckle down with my studies and work to save up at least 10k and look around plenty, seen a couple for 8 that seemed pretty good so hopefully that kind of deal will still be around later down the track, i will then be able to pay up the costs, and presuming my studies go fine you never know, a GTR might be a few years away

Cars only get cheaper.

BTW, if u r a P plater, not sure if u can own a turbo car anyway or if it goes under the power to weight ratio.

Good luck.
