Im screwed!!!!

Got a letter a few weeks ago, I was in a shop, and mate comes in after 15 mins. He states to me cops been sitting behind my car for the past 10 mins. I was in a pickup/drop off park. Went out there and they were gone. Thought to myself. "Well, that went well." Got a letter in mail two weeks later stating my car was spotted driving in a particuliar street (load of shi..), and that the exhaust needed to be tested due to a certain police officer thinking it was 2 loud.

Fair enough. So went down to exhaust centre gave them a 2 1/2 muffler and said could U mount this and weld up half of the 2 1/2 inch pipe (3 1/2 inch into a 2 1/2 inch), to quiet it down enough. $260 later, did a great job. Went in got it tested 89 db. Woo Hoo passed. Got home removed muffler and put my bad boy muffler back on.

Mrs borrows the car! The other day to get to work, guess what! Yes, massive police blitz on Calder Highway on incomming side of Bendigo. Get the phone call from Mrs. "They about to do a EPA noise test on your car." Not good! Got a reading of 113 db!icon8.gif

They didn't know the car had just been through a test a gathered. They didn't ask her about it, but stated that I would be getting a fine maybe in the mail. I gather I will, not to sure how BIG yet. Heard a bloke got $2500 fine fore removing his CAT's. I will eventually get through this in the end.

Just to make things worse, my clutch shi... itself today (nismo twin-plate spring button clutch) done a hole 15,000 khms since it got re-conditioned. <------------DODGY AS!icon7.gif

Anyone had this happen to them before, or simular. Any advice would be muchly appreciated.

im sorry to hear your unfortunate event....

look, the BEST thing for you.....is just, deal with things as they come.....

sometimes people tend to OVER-worry & in the end, nothing.

it really depends on your luck, im sure your not the only one in Aust with an illegal exhaust.

well the fine for removing cat, i recall is double that price you mentioned....

years ago, ive had a TT supra which i removed the cat & tested at 135db & never been defected in a 3 year period.

the only thing you can do, is to wack the quiet one on... and get it tested if you are summoned.

because the Cops can be faulty with thier testing....

so that way the only thing you can say, is that the coppers didnt test properly.

good luck

Might be onto something there.

Going to just have to see where it all ends up, done my share of stressing about it.

I think the way the police are going with all these new laws these days. Is to run an illegal shutter valve in the exhaust when cruising around town and when you see these Police Blitz. (hope they don't see it).icon2.gif

like i said, if they summon you to be tested, it may be no big deal.

police are known to be faulty with tests. Some say the Db Meter has to be a foot away from the exhaust... others say it has to be a metre away. And ive heard of encounters with police having the Db right on the tip of the muffler.

thats why Random breath tests, if you are positive... they take you away and test you properly at the cop shop.

because sometimes foods can give it a false reading.

yeah no point stressing...

    • Probably a smart choice to buy one vs build, purely for the motivation part as you said! Imagine the metal dust everywhere from grinding all the steel to build one. Ha ha ha!   Also, post a photo of your garage.   Mine is below, this is where I've been cleaning and have already half filled a caged 6*4 trailer. And this is after my cleaning expedition mentioned previously... The middle normally has a car in it, but I'm dumping things in the middle as I sort through them. And poor skyline was dusty and has had the lightest few drops of rain and now it looks atrocious and needs to be dragged back out and washed thoroughly! And yes to the right is technically another bay, you really can only see 2 bays out of 3 in this picture.
    • It's more like on average the things I see a lot of things going wrong. Yes, usually the people who reach out are the ones who are having problems but on average it feels like mechanics and tuners here aren't really competent. I swing between thinking my standards are just way too high and wondering whether people really are just this dumb. I just had the strangest 10+ reply argument on a Facebook group over someone insisting that the factory R34 GTT boost control solenoid reduces boost pressure to 5 psi when it's on and raises boost pressure to 7 psi when it's off despite showing the exact plumbing in the factory service manual and the solenoid behavior detailed in the FSM.
    • I steam cleaned my near new set of volk gtc wheels 14 years ago and farrkkked them lol. The clear coat cracked like spider webbing in several areas. Lesson learnt don't do that. 😭
    • If you don't touch the CAS, then you're fine.
    • Yeah, my moulds and seals are 32 years old now. I think I will continue to not use a pressure washer on it.
