hi guys,

ive been searching for an engine builder as i now have all the bits needed to get started on my rb26/30 - i 'almost' made the wrong decision so i think its better that i gain other peoples feedback before i commit, i had a look on the forum & its been a few years since anyone has asked this question.

i dont want to pay through my nose for this as well

regards

marko

Well there is always the option of crating it to NZ and getting RIPZ to do it. At $400 for a crate and shipping and NZ$1.20 it could be an option. For something like an engine i think you have to really go wherever you are comfortable, if that means interstate then so be it.

I suppose the problem is plenty of places will build you a tough RB30 for a rwd car, but the problems start when you go GTR

rob at rips is building my diff plate and sump kit so that may be a good option

james @ nisspeed also sounds good

i think i need an rb30 specialist as other small mods are required i.e. relocating timing tensioner, head studs tapped

Thats basic fundamental machine and fitting work Marko.

so why the sudden change of heart?

Id do it for you but your indecision and procrastination would kill me.

i have a handshake warranty...you fu(k it...its your issue...i fu(k it...its mine.

Have you given thought to Tony Rigoli ,

I know Dom pretty well hes built a few quick 26's and 26/30's , ill be building My 34 Pretty soon hes most likely going to do it for me , very good results .

Great suggestion...Marko call Dom.

Tax deduction?...lol...you must be kidding?

+1 for the shirt man. you get status with one his builds

The only way it would happen is id have Marko fill out a build sheet that could not be altered and his username be suspended until it was complete...lol

no im not doing it.

Marko ring Dom.

Tax deduction?...lol...you must be kidding?

let me explain - my previous gtr i spent over 15k in mods & i got back 1/2 of that from the tax office, how, well...i drove that car for business purposes

paul - u know i think your work is fantastic & i'd recommend u to anyone (your knowledge is better than most workshops) BUT at the end of the day i do need a legally binging receipt, in my last farkk up with 2 repairers i went to the fair trading commission (with MVRIA) had my receipts and evidence hence won and had no problem with getting my money returned.

I do not want to go through the same bulllshiiiiit hence why this time I will go to a 'highly recommended' workshop even if it means spending a little more that can offer a legally binding receipt, insurance and warranty.

If you had an ABN and business you would be my first choice. Simple. Unfortunately i dont feel comfortable spending thousands without a legally binding guarantee...not trying to be offensive at please dont take it that way - you know your shiit your awesome with your skill and knowledge however i dont feel comfortable.

there are plenty of reputable places in syd that machine and build.

I use dominator race engines in guildford for all my machine work. there very good at what they do and are very resonable in their pricing.

Hope this helps

dominator is very good i highly recomend him for price as well

my old car sems to still be alive

as for engine building any f**k could do it...

its the machinist that is worth his weight in gold... mechanics just put together the machinist good work and balancing

+ 5 for dominator! and he give a discount if you take speedway with him for a hour and if you pay cash he does it all in under a day!

same...i pick and choose my work...i wouldn't want to do it...easy.

my time is limited so i dont intend on running a business and taking a full on commitment. Its a hobby that i enjoy...helping a few guys out with stuff is about all im prepared to do. Any hassles with turning it into a serious venture would really suck and any more time away from my family than i spend now is not an option.

for the 3rd time...contact Dom Rigoli he comes well recommended by me.

    • Good morning all, Bit of a random question but figured I’d finally throw it out after wondering for a long while. Before I start, I'm hoping to do this purely out of personal preference. I think it would look better at night, and don't mind at all spending a few hours and dollars to get it done. I've copied this from a non-Skyline specific forum, so I apologize for the explanation of our headlight switch setup that we all know. Here we go: Zero lights (switch off) Parking lights (switch position 1) being a rectangular marker on the outside of the housing, my low beam being the projector in the centre (position 2), and a high beam triggered by my turn signal stalk. Most North American cars I’ve owned of this era have power to the amber corner (turning indicator) light as part of the first switch (parking lights). I’d love to have these amber corners receive power when the headlights and parking lights are on (headlight switch), yet still blink when using the turn signal which is of course a separate switch. Hopefully I’ve explained my question correctly. Is anyone aware of a way in which I might be able to achieve this? Thanks in advance
    • My heads are cathedral port! It's likely possible, but I don't want to add any extra moving parts (I know they don't move) between the heads, manifolds, etc. It will also affect how injectors/fuel rails etc sit and I don't really know if it would change how the FAST manifold goes/sits/fits. I have the LS6 steam pipes already as I have a very late LS1 block so it should be fine. I couldn't find anyone who had ever actually used one for this purpose, it seems 100% of people grind the water pump. The thermal spacers are 12mm and are half way to the cost of the newer water pump anyhow... so if it comes to that I suppose I'd rather buy a new pump. The bearing in the pump I do have is a little.. clunky, but it hasn't done that much time and I never noticed it when the car was together in the past few years, so..
    • The bushing has failed, not all that uncommon for a car of this age.  Any mechanic should be able to push in a new bushing for you, or you can probably buy the entire lower control arm, complete with bushes.
    • Could you not use "thermal" spacers to give the clearance, like the ones I used between the blower and head? That raised the manifold height by around 10-15mm Albeit the ones I used were for cathedral ports, but I assume they have similar for rectangular ports????
    • Thanks Paul I reached out to Autotainment but they no longer work on JDM cars as the guy who used to do the work moved on and is no longer doing that kind of work. I am talking with Level Up Audio though.
