i know mitsi turbos can run on oil only, water is not required even tho it is hooked up from factory.

Bush bearing - oil only - OK

Ball bearing - oil only - NOT ok. Requires water as there is less oil in the bearings to cool them

yea iv ran oil on a 20det turbo before for a year and a half and had no probs

ok so does that mean that rb20 turbos are non ball bearing, but that rb25 and vg30 turbos are ball bearing?

all of the skyline GTST turbochagers are ball bearing, oil cooled, water cooled turbochargers

You might want to ask over on Turbo Dodge. If I recall correctly, Chrysler/Dodge produced more turbocharged engines than anyone and those turbos were meant to last for the duration of a drivetrain warranty. That's a huge database of empirical info even though it is dated.

I think the water protects the bearings on shutdown by boiling/cavitating instead of allowing temps to reach oil coking levels.

I am not an expert in this, just saying it doesn't hurt to ask.

just get the turbo high flowed and use a floating bush bearing insteed of ball bearing. then dont use the water lines.
