thats about all i know, i was told to go to someone down at marion but i forgot who told me...

thats you he charges $35 per hour if i went in it may be a different story unless this is a set rate. btw how much can a tuner charge per hour or does it depend on what you want done ie. dyno tuning/road tuning/power fc tuning. im just curious as i havnt had my care tuned before ever :D

Think of all the money you can save:)

Yeah, special price for you on the canola oil hippy:D

some dynos charge up to around $150 per hour for the first hour, then $80-$100 there after - so they can be pretty bloody expensive.

I honestly believe that if you pay extra and get the job done right the first time, it will be way cheaper than getting an average tune, then having to take the car into someone else to get it done again.

Hippy, unless you want to have the car tuned, just do the service yourself - you can quite easily change engine oil, dif and trans oil yourself - where you would be paying someone $50 per hour in labour. do a good visual inspection of all your hoses, check fan belt tension, check your lights, washers, wipers, etc. Even bleed the brakes yourself (good to do at least once a year, just dont use dot5 fluid which will cause major probs with your seals, use dot 5.1:)) Plugs arent a major problem either, change them yourself too.

If you want the car tune, get it done after you have done all the above, and it will save you a heap of dollars.

and buy the canola oil:p

Well steve i have 1000kms till i have to change the oil. Oil and filter are piss easy, however i want to change the Diff oil cos the diff open wheels so im hoping changin the fluid might help abit.

Also is there any need to change plugs, cos my car is firing beautfully, so i dont see the need to change them.

Finally do i just do visual checks of other things like coolant clutch and p/s fluids?

Thanks

Dean, do you know what plugs you have? If you have coppers, it would be worth changing them every 10,000kms - if you are unsure, pull them and have a look.

Definately check all your fluid levels, also have a good look around the engine bay for any leaks, same time, check around all the hoses and lines for brakes, clutch, cooling etc for any leaks. And check your brake pads.

I havent changed the diff oil on the R33, I will have a closer look at it tonight. Usually you will have two bolts, a drain and fill. Just take the drain bolt out and drain fully (let is stand for a while). Check for metal filings in the oil, as this can be a good indicator of problems - although all diffs will drop a few filings, just like gear boxes. Once the diff has drained fully, replace the bung and remove the fill bung, just fill to its level with the bung (unless there is a recommended fill volume?) sorry I am not 100% on that one - think I may need to check:)

hippy, yes someone can do it for you - morpowa:p

    • Actually,  just remembered there should be info in the threads (somewhere) about swapping to a manual steering rack and deleting power steering all together.
    • Also had a look at the Nissan JP website looks like the 400r has a slightly shorter ratio than than the regular V37 3.133 VS 2.937 which from a guy who has driven both 3.69 vs 4.11 ratios in the S15 is bugger all. Seems that the AUTO Z runs the same ratio as the 400R but can't find any info as to if its an open or LSD? More often than not the auto LSD is open
    • Do not replace the power steering lines with this stuff. If it's anything like the Chase Bays stuff it will leak and be worse than stock. The reason why the reservoir is on the LH/passenger side of the car is because that's just where the reservoir was most convenient to fit. Don't overthink this stuff. The intake/cold side of the engine is pretty busy on these cars. And again, the hardpipe is designed to be a janky power steering cooler. In theory you can replace it with a real power steering cooler but that's really only for track use where boiling the fluid is a distinct possibility. Start with the low pressure lines feeding the pump from the reservoir. Make sure there isn't a bunch of junk in the reservoir filter. Be careful to not get ATF all over the engine bay. I hate dealing with ATF spills, you can clean it up and the slightest crevice will still release more oil that can still drip over time. You also want to inspect for leaks before you make a mess and can't tell what happened. Most likely you have a leak somewhere that is allowing fluid out and air in. Failing that it's allowing air in but not fluid out. Only place I can really see that happening is on the low pressure side because the pump will pull a slight vacuum to draw fluid in. Everything after the pump is high pressure or lower pressure, approaching atmospheric by the time it returns to the reservoir.
    • I did a skidpan night at SMSP this week, it was much cheaper than $350. But yeah, you need to slap an LSD in that thing.  I put an OS Giken in the 370Z and it's f**king MARVELOUS even compared to Nissan's viscous LSD. So you're saying it's free now that it's a housing estate? 😂
