Just got back from status tuning after gettiing the nistune board installed and tuned by trent. These are my mods so far...

2000 s2 rs rwd stagea

Hypergear atr28/g3 hiflow turbo- The best value for money turbo upgrade i think!!!

fmic

3"turbo back exhaust

t-bar boost controller

apexi panel filter

walbro 550hp fuel pump

nistune board

Before the nistune i was running 186 rwkw at 10 psi with my safc neo.

After nistune i currently have 225rwkw at 16psi!!! The car pulls soooo much stronger and feels like a new engine altogether. I must say trent really knows his stuff in regards to tuning and is a top bloke to deal with.

As good as the figure is i'm going in again in a week or so as we both forgot one crucial thing to do to the stagea before the tune. Trent mentioned the car should be making 15 or so more kw but he was finding it hard to tune at the top end. This is when we both realised...

We forgot to take out the neo!!! woops. I did mention it to him though probably shouldnt have left the neo stashed behind the dash but hanging out somewhere in view. Trent said straight away to book it in again for a remap without the neo free of charge and we should hopefully get up to 235rkw with hope!!

But regardless the engine is running so smooth and the turbo is ohh so good, and trent reckons that the turbo could easily get to 20psi no worries with supporting mods!!!

So all in all +1 for nistune and status tuning!!

+1 for hypergear!!!

Excellent result. What is the access for tuning the Nistune? Is there a usb port or is it done through the Nissan Consult port? Does Trent suggest the motor will stand 20psi (I know the neo has stronger rods than the S1)? An electronic boost controller would probably be good although I am sure you are happy with the power you have now.

What is the duty cycle on the injectors ( I am assuming you are still running the stock items)? Will they cope with a bit more or has it been suggested you upgrade them? How about the AFM? I am wondering if people are upgrading these things unnecessarily or are you running on the limit?

I have just installed my GCG highflow and I know it can make plenty of boost but I am trying to work out what I need to get the most out of it.

Not sure what port is used for the tune, i'll ask trent next time i see him.

He said the turbo can pump 20psi plus no worries but dont know about the engine. He has some auto r34 neos that he has tuned recently, one pushing 270rwkw though i believe he is running into a few auto trans issues.

boost kits peak at 2500rpm but drops off as it revs. Was thinking maybe installing the gizmo ebc. Would that help keep boost around 16psi to redline?

But yes very happy with the power its making!

He said the standard injectors i have still have room to move as their not near maxing out yet. Probably another 20kw or so before they get above 80% duty cycle. As for the afm i asked him and he said with the nistune and my power objectives i wouldn't need to upgrade.

Its good to know that the hypergear highflow still has a bit of headroom to support future mods!!!

Get the nistune and get it done with status tuning...

Thanks for the info. I am using a Jaycar EIBC which helps build boost faster and helps maintain my target of 16psi at the top end. They are cheap to buy but you have to assemble them (unless you can find one ready built). Otherwise ask Trent to recommend another electronic boost controller.

Sorry its backwards dont have a scanner. as u can see boost gets to about 16.5 at just after 2500 rpm

fixed it for ya. but i'm confused...i'm assuming you took a photo of it? how did it end up backwards?? it should still have been the right way unless you took a photo into the mirror or something.

good on ya! I took the photo on my mac in photo booth. I guess it gives a mirror image of any picture taken...

Gave the stag a few good runs today. tyres are getting to the limit of their traction but their gripping fine.

uneven roads has the tyres chirping all though first!

I'm a bogan at heart and am loving having rwd fun in a big fat wagon!

The Nistune type 4 board (for S2 stagea/R34) has a high-speed consult interface... you just plug into the standard consult port on the car to tune :D

I have a gcg-hiflow (neo turbo/large exhaust housing trim) and with a nistune upgrade + tune, panel filter upgrade, full 3" mandrel-bent straight-through exhaust with custom-made split front & dump pipe which fits snugly into the new exhaust housing (eg. no eyebrow divider), biig 5" body hi-flow cat', shift kit and bypassed boost solenoid, I find that it's noticeably slower than stock ( :P ) in some ways. For example, when taking off... the steel wheels in this new turbine just don't get going the same way the stock one did with its ceramic blades, they spun up soo easily - stall launches before were incredible, I was having to work to keep my head off the seat for the initial launch. Now, they're a complete non-event... you just floor it in 1st and it's wait... wait... rev's past 2,500 and then GO. Not as driveable IMO... which is why I need an intercooler upgrade and a high-stall converter (which is what I'll be doing with my 'bonus' I think).

front mount you will loose a little response, but get it back when you up the boost it think...

you really should be looking at upping the boost, highly doubt the turbo is in its efficiency range at 7psi

Get your IEBC finished Dave - the boost response with a shut wastegate is fantastic!

I haven't finished mapping mine, but even with my 1st-draft 0.65-bar tune, all you have to do is breathe on the throttle to get boost. With the stock turbo and JJR dump/cat, I can get full boost at around 2500rpm. I'm sure you could really wake-up the GCG and spend your cash elsewhere!

Really does make that much difference eh? I should get around to installing mine. I've just been so lazy. Got to drive to Victoria for a wedding next month though (yeah another stag wedding car...) so I guess I will wait until after then anyway to go playing with boost (although I can always switch back to stock).

Yeah even with the stock boost control though it's making somewhere around 14PSI up high. But I guess it could probably do more than that, and down low/midrange it really isn't great.

I've been looking at whether or not I can squeeze a 12"-long core from frozenboost.com into the stock SMIC location. I'm not sure it'll fit though, since the stock SMIC has one front-facing pipe and the frozenboost core has both pipes exiting vertically... I'm not sure there's going to be enough space to make the turn.

Just gotta get around to pulling the whole front bar off to take a look at the SMIC in-situ... too much like hard work atm.

what poundage is the actuator spring? maybe try a 14psi spring if it is a low one, might help with low down boost?

check out the JJR cores with both outlets on the one end and get piping made to suit IMO

Yeah Dave fit your IEBC. I fitted mine with the GCG turbo and boost build was really fast - apparently even with my RB20 actuator (10psi spring) there is some leakage that slows boost building. With the IEBC there is no boost whatever getting anywhere near the actuator until directed by the solenoid at the point that you direct - much more control and faster boost build than any bleed system.

It sure does, I haven't refined my maps yet and could probably ramp the actuator opening faster which would increase the build-rate even further. I had a look at the boost when driving south on Commercial Road towards Maslins today and hit 0.65-bar in 4th (not locked up) at 2400rpm...

It took me about 45 minutes to install it, and about half an hour to get a reasonable map in place.

I'll be dynoing the car soon now I've got the DFA in so the IEBC will be mapped more accurately then.

Your setup would have excellent potential with the OEM intercooler still in place.
