Hey everyone, Not sure if here is the best place to post, but SAU has a pretty big biking population.

I sold my first bike last night, A Honda CBR250RR in search of an upgrade.

I've been riding on and off since I was 12 so mediocre experience, and got bored of this bike really really quickly.

Seeming as I'm still on P's for another 10 months, the only upgrades I can think of are a Ducati Monster 620, RVF400 and VFR400.

I've found a nice looking VFR400 which is LAMS registered.

Wanted opinions on this bike, are they reliable like the cbr250's (mine didn't skip a beat), is it sufficient enough to put a smile on my face :D through various twisties on the weekend or track days? or would you recommend something else?

Cheers :P

i know plenty of ppl who have cbr 1000 on there p's and dont have any problems.

Lol.. serious? they never get pulled over?

I'm pretty tempted. Like an gixxer 600 or z750 kwaka or something, just keep standard rear fenders and stock exhausts.

But then you have the insurance aspect.

*sigh*

I'm in the same boat mate. It's a bit different up here in QLD I think (will be the same as of July 1) but I'm restricted to a 250 for another 3 1/2 months or so. I would love to go and buy an R6 or something but don't want to risk losing my license!!

Guess I'm stuck on my 250 for the time being!!

Dude, make sure you get a LAMS bike hey. Cause if you get done, then licence is gone, and you'll just have to wait even longer. Most of the bigger lams bikes just cut off the high end power, so all the lower end stuff is just as good. Do the time, if you have been riding bikes since 12 I'm assuming dirt bikes. It is different to the road. 10 months really isnt that long.

depends on the state. ive been caught twice on my 600, u get a $119 fine and no points. thats it...

nothing more.. they dont take ur license, or bike or anything unless ur hooning but then thats another fine altogether.

and the bigger lams bikes dont only have a cut off at top end.. and have awesome bottom end coz they dont.. uve obviously never ridden one before.. they make about 25kw and about 50-60nm... but they weigh 200kg+ so chances are ull get owned by a smaller old school 250 like a cbr or zx2r which make a lil more power with alot less weight

just get a 600 mate.. im still on my l's :P

aprilia rs250... looks like an rs125 (which is lams approved) but is twice as fast.. big bikes arent all they are cracked up to be... ive ridden a few and they are fantastic... but i really love my rs125s... the theatrics make it all worth it. they fly, handle well, look great, and you can thrash it through the gears, redlining each time... and still only just be over the speed limit in 5th.. how many big bikes can you wring the neck out of and still be legal?? considering a mates cbr929 will comfortably do 120 in 2nd gear.. and will lift up anytime you crack the throttle.. sure its powerful but wheres the fun?

yeh i spose i did... im not denying big bikes are fun... they are freakin awesome.. but he is still a learner and its really not worth the risk... i geared my last rs125 low so its top speed was a mere 130km/h... 20km/h more than the legal limit, and 40km more than i was allowed to go on l's... but the acceleration awesome.. and i could pin the throttle without worrying about the front lifting up and smash through the gears and get the feeling of going fast.

have you thought about a wr450 with motard wheels?? awesome fun.. i had one with dirt tyres and it was mental enough.. needed a new clutch though.

+1 for supermoto - more fun than a street bike, quicker through the corners and tops out at a less-deadly 130km/h (less deadly than 300+km/h anyway).

here's mine ('03 WR250F):

With different colored wheels, stickers holding the plastics together and 18,000km on the poor little 250cc motor it's certainly ghetto, but it's the most fun I've had on the road in a loooong time.

I believe you can get some big supermoto bikes that are LAMS approved...?
