Hey peeps,

i have a few questions that i want to ask, i am 18 years old living in brisbane and am looking to purchase a skyline R34 GT-T 1998-2001 or supra 1996-onwards(probably skyline) probably non turbo because of the laws as i am on my green P's. i currently drive a mitsubishi lancer 2.0ltr 2004 model

1. Where should i look when trying to find a skyline, should i go to motormanimports and ask them to find me one or should i look on carsales etc and what year model is the best...

2. what minor upgrades should i get to stay within the laws( i want full body kit mayby exhaust etc...)

3. i travel from logan to sanctuary cove(goldcoast) 5 times a week once in morning then back in afternoon im trying to decide wether it would be chewing to much fuel for me...

4. Should i mayby wait until i have my open license and keep my current car and have my skyline as a weekender or drive a couple of times a week?

im not looking to thrash the thing around daily.. i just want a neat shmick car that turns heads and that i can give the occasional boot full!

any help would be great sorry for a heap of questions.

cheers

apparently using import services to purchase at the auction isnt the best option due to the australian dollar...

probably buying one here would be better.

if i were you, id wait till you get the full liscence then buy the turbo version or a TT supra.

the sad thing is, most upgrades on mods are illegal.. even turbo timers. You could really get defected for anything or you could just be lucky.

Welcome to Skylines Australia!

Is your glass of water half-full or half-empty? Some people are impatient to get a potent Skyline machine too early and get a tad diasappointed at the little surprises they find thru' buying in haste.

If your glass of water is half full, take on the attitude that you have time on your side to buy your dream machine. The R34 GT-T is still a single turbo btw, and it's the GT that you're entitled to drive right now. But I'd bide my time and if you were to find a real mickey-mouse one to tuck away in the garage and try it out on drive days on the track and get some advanced driving courses under your belt; you can then offload the '04 Lancer when the Ps end. Then you can use some of the Lancer $$ for modding.

If you can't afford to do that, and most people can't, I'd still keep the Lancer, do some advanced driving courses, yes even in a FWD Lancer and then look for your R34 GT-T a month or two before you come off the Ps. An R34 GT-T is a great car. An R33 GT-R is a better one.

Good cars come up F/S on SAU as you search. The enthusiasts here will have already changed Jap fluids, perhaps upgraded engines, brakes etc and gotten rid of niggly irritations.

Still with any grey import, there are threads you'll locate that have lists on what to look for as you purchase your new Skyline.

I'd certainly take a mechanic with you as you look...

a) to compare one with another on any test/lookout day

b) and have one list of checkpoints for you and another for your mechanic. He can be totally focussed and logical whilst you're still a bit emotional.

you remind me of the movie No Retreat, No surrender when the guy whos portraying bruce lee holds the cup and pours it trying to explain something to his student.
