bought my car off my mate, who's an auto electrician, and a douchebag. edit: and is being lazy and won't help me with anything

on the RTA inspection sheet, it failed on;

component:

1). steering component under bonnet and vehicle - rule 103.02

2). lights - rule 106.02

problem:

- excessive free play due to wear - tie rod end

-front park or side lights not working/damaged

i bought new globes, replaced them, and still only one headlight works, wtf? (maybe something to do with fuses and/or the earths for the headlights?

and wtf about the steering stuff and tying rod ends?

the tie rod end is the bit that swivels on the steering near each wheel when you turn the wheel, your best off taking it somewhere to get it replaced because you will need a wheel alignment after.

did you check the fuses? my parkers would blow the fuse untill I fixed the earth piont.

not sure about the 33 but in my 32 I had to replace the switch assembly itself. the one located in the car which is used to turn the lights on and off. My parkers always worked but one low beam and one high beam never worked. The small contact points in the switch assembly had worn off and therefore that sides lights never worked.

Tie rod ends are $23 each to replace from autobarn, $130 from nissan, it is however possible the steering rack is stuffed and therefore you have play in the steering wheel. Maybe see if someone in your area off here could just come look at it and give you a hand for a carton of beer or something. good luck with it.

an auto electrician would probably charge the earth to do diagnostic testing on it to figure out whats wrong with the lighting. unless they have worked on skylines before. Also I see you say side lights. do you mean your side indicators or your headlights? Tie rod ends really are a piece of piss to replace. there is a tute on how to do it in the DIY section. I did mine 2 days ago in about 45 mins. All you need is a few spanners and a hammer
